Abstract

A continuous electrode, for automatic arc welding, deposits weld metal of the following percentage composition: .C.0.05-0.4 .Ni.35 -65 .Cr.10 -25 .Mo.4 - 8 .W.0.5 - 3 .Nb.0.5 - 3 .Mn.0 - 8 .Co.0 - 3 .V.0 - 3 .Si.0 - 1 .Fe.10 -45 The electrode may be of the composite construction described in Specification 949,587 and include a flux consisting of (by weight): .Fluxes such as CaF2, CaO or SiO2.0-20% .Alloy or metal powder containing. .Fe, Mo, Nb, W, V or Co.25-98% .Deoxidizers containing Fe, Al, Ti,. .Si, Mg or Mn.2-40% Alternatively, the electrode may have a flux coating held in position on the core wire by winding wires which also establish electrical connection to the core wire. Such composite electrodes may be used for gas-shielded, submerged-arc or open-arc welding. Weld metal of the desired composition may also be produced by using a gas-shielding or submerged-arc technique and a bare wire electrode of the following percentage composition: .C.0.02- 0.5 .Ni.35 -65 .Cr.10 -30 .Mo.4 -10 .W.0.5 - 4 .Nb.0.5 - 4 .Mn.0 - 8 .Co.0 - 3 .V.0 - 3 .Si.up to 2 .Fi.10 -45 .Deoxidizer such as Ti, Al, Zr.0 -25 Specification 980,357 also is referred to
