Abstract
Fabrication of metal studs for winter vehicle tyres Comprises an inner pin of hard metal, inserted into a soft metal stud, the joint being of conical form (half-angle 0.5-5 deg) and the pin held by a thin layer of brazing material, not more than 30 mu m thick coated on the hardmetal pin and such that the melting point of the brazing material, or of its alloy formed with the stud materialis below the melting point of the stud material. The coated pin is pessed into the stud to form an immediate joint and assembly is heated to fusion point in reducing atmosphere to form a joint with min. strength of 11 kp/mm2.
