Abstract

1,102,601. Welding by pressure. HOPKINSONS Ltd. 6 April, 1965 [7 April, 1964], No. 14246/64. Heading B3R. In a method of providing a non-corrodible and/or wear-resistant surface to a metallic valve component, the component and a non- corrodible and/or wear resistant material are placed in contact and one is rotated relative to the other while an axial force is applied. After a period of time the rotation is stopped to leave a layer or ring of the said material on the component. The axial force may be varied during the period when one of the parts is rotating and the method may be carried out in an atmosphere of air or an oxidizing, reducing, neutral or inert atmosphere or in a vacuum. The parts may be coated with a cleansing fluid. In one embodiment an annular ring is united witha valve body.
