Abstract

The blower 9 of an exhaust-driven supercharger is connected to blow charge air into a receiving chamber 21 located within the engine casing at one side of the cylinder barrels 4, a charge air cooler 19 being located within the engine casing on the other side of the cylinder barrels. The charge air, heated in the blower, flows into the receiving chamber from diffuser 12, slows down and heats up the lower ends of the cylinder barrels as it passes to the cooler before flowing to the engine cylinders from delivery duct 20. The cooler may be constructed as a removable drawer, built up of a series of standard elements joined to a coolant circuit by flow and return pipes.
