Abstract

PURPOSE:To cool the exhaust valve of a Diesel engine by introducing a portion of supercharged air into the air passage formed in the steam of exhaust valve. CONSTITUTION:Supercharged air pressurized by an exhaust turbosupercharger and cooled nearly to the room temperature is passed through conduit 2 and introduced into passage 5 in the stem of exhaust valve via port 13 formed in guide ring 12 of exhaust valve 7 and port 4 formed in the stem of exhaust valve, and discharged from outlet port 7 after directly cooling the exhaut valve. Then, it is introduced into the exhaust system connected to the cylinder, thereby assisting to produce exhaust turbosupercharge driving force by the heat absorbed from exhaust valve 7. Thus, the exhaust valve is cooled by air in the above arrangement, so that its cooling effect is not so high as compared with water cooling method. However, it is advantageous in that engine is not affected at all if leakage of ari is caused and that energy loss can be eliminated since air after use is heated by the exhaust valve and returned to the supercharge.
