Abstract

PURPOSE:To greatly improve the thermal efficiency of an engine, by combining an internal combustion engine with an external one, the exhaust energy of the former being used as a heat source of the latter, to take out axial power from one and the same shaft. CONSTITUTION:A suction port 1 of an internal combustion engine A such as diesel or Otto cycle engine is connected, through an air filter 2, suction pipe 3 and suction valve 4, with a combustion chamber 6 of a cylinder 5, so that mixture or air is supplied direct. Exhaust gas after burning in the combustion chamber 6 is put out from an exhaust port 13 through an exhaust valve 10 and exhaust pipe 11. A heating unit 12, having built-in heating devices 14 for stirling engine B, is set between the exhaust pipe 11 and exhaust port 13. The external combustion engine B is composed of a cylinder 16a having a high temperature chamber 17 and another cylinder 16b having a low temperature chamber 22, both cylinders being communicated with each other through the heating devices 14, regenerators 20 and cooling devices 21.
