Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain mechanical energy, by using a prescribed working fluid for an Otto cycle engine having a cooling jacket for the cylinder of the engine and a cooling jacket for its exhaust pipe and a Rankine cycle engine having an output shaft.
CONSTITUTION: A working fluid supplied from a pump 1 into a cooling jacket 3 absorbs heat from a cylinder 4 so that the fluid is evaporated. The evaporated fluid absorbs heat from an exhaust pipe 7 so that the temperature and pressure of the fluid are heightened to actuate a Rankine cycle engine having an output shaft B. Rotatory energy is thus obtained. The fluid having finished working is cooled and liquefied by a condenser 9. Methyl alcohol mixed with a small amount of ammonia and water, ethyl ether mixed with a small amount of methyl alcohol and water, aqueous ammonia or the like is used as the working fluid. The cooling and exhaust losses of an internal combustion engine can thus be changed into effective mechanical energy.
