Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the overall thermal efficiency of a water-cooled internal combustion engine, by providing a heating chamber to recover the heat energy of the exhaust pipe to generate steam and by providing a turbine which is rotated by the steam. CONSTITUTION:A cooling circuit comprises the outlet port of the water jacket of a cylinder head 20, a thermostat 24, a radiator 26 and a water pump 30. A heating chamber 12 is provided around an exhaust pipe 38 to heat high-temperature water from the water jacket to generate steam. The steam rotates a turbine 14 and is conducted to a condenser 16. According to this constitution, high thermal energy from the surface of the exhaust pipe 38 is efficiently recovered to improve overall thermal efficiency.
