Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide an internal combustion engine in which cooling loss is decreased and its exhaust gas converting capacity is increased due to high temperature of eshaust gas therefrom by constituting same into an adiabatic type engine.
CONSTITUTION: Heat insulating members 4 are provided on a cylinder liner 3, at the top of a piston 5, on the inner surface of a cylinder head 2, and so on, to form a combustion chamber 6 into an adiabatic structure. A heat exchanger 12 which has exhaust gas converting catalyzer 13 filled therein is connected intermediate of an exhaust manifold 11. The catalyzer 13 is housed in a vessel 15 which has fins 14 provided around its outer periphery. The vessel 15 is connected to the exhaust manifold 11 and a suction port 7 by means of communicating passages 16 and 17, respectively. In operation, part of exhaust gas is conducted into the communicating passage 16, in which it is intermixed with fuel from an injection valve 18, and then it is converted into fresh fuel in the heat exchanger 12 by means of the cotalyzer 13 whereafter it is sent into the suction port 7 by way of the communicating passage 17.
