Abstract
Method and apparatus for fusingly bonding a coating material to a metal article, a process characterized in that it comprises the steps of depositing coating material in solid form on the surface of the metal article; thermally and substantially simultaneously liquefy the coating material and the surface of the metal article by focusing on them a continuous wave ray of electromagnetic energy of relatively high power; and subsequently removing the focused beam of electromagnetic energy from said article allowing its cooling and hardening in order to provide a solidified surface layer with a relatively thin but strong interstitial bond between said layer and the metal article.
