Abstract

PURPOSE: To readily produce the clad slab of high adhesion power with simple equipment by heating and melting the slab surface layer and clad blank by plasma arc in an inert atmosphere on the slab surface to form a molten pool then allowing the same to solidify.
CONSTITUTION: A plate-form clad blank 1 is placed on a base metal slab 2. While it is being moved on rollers in the arrow direction, the surface layer of the slab 2 and blank 1 are simultaneously melted by the plasma arc by the plasma torch 5 which is covered with a case 4 whose inside is set in an inert atomsphere. Since the plasma arm is of high heat density, a molten pool is rapidly formed on the slab 2. When this is solidified, the blank 1 fusion bonds onto the slab 2 and the clad slab having this as its clad layer 3 is obtained.
