Abstract

PURPOSE: To let the weld metal formed fit sufficiently to base metals and assume a concave shape even if the welding speed is increased and let the next layer welding become easy by preceding a non-consumable plate-form W electrode and generating arc between this electrode and base metals thereby heating the base metals sufficiently.
CONSTITUTION: A non-consumable plate-form W electrode is preceded and arc is generated by a heating power source 5 between the electrode 6 and base metals 2. If the electrode 6 is held in the same posture, only a certain portion will be heated and therefore it is oscillated vertically and laterally so that the base metals in the groove are evenly heated closely up to their melting point. This enables the deposited metal 4 of good fitting to the base metals 2 to be obtained even if the welding by the subsequent welding wire 3 connected to a welding power source 1 is made higher in speed.
