Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide an overlaying method improved considerably from conventional methods in terms of the quality of an overlaid layer and the yield of working by melting and overlaying the powder of dissimilar metal on a metallic base material by means of a laser beam in an inert gas atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A laser beam 3, gaseous Ar 4 and powder 5 of metal for overlaying are supplied coaxially through a supply pipe 2 opened onto a rotating metallic base material 1. Here, 6 denotes a groove for the purpose of overalying. As a result, the oxidation of the powder 5 is prevented, and the molten powder is coated on the material 1, whereby the binding of both is effected surely. If such overlaying method is practised, there is no generation of blow-holes and inclusion of slag in the overlaid part, the surface is smooth, and the quality of the overlaid layer and the yield of working after the overlaying are improved considerably.
