Abstract
PURPOSE: To join metals or ceramics at an ordinary temperature without forming any thermal strain and intermetallic compound by ion sputtering the joining surfaces thereby increasing surface energy.
CONSTITUTION: Air is extracted through the valve provided to an extra high vacuum vessel 1 to maintain about 6×10-5torr vacuum degree, thence an Ar gas is injected thereon and the ion beams from respective ion guns 2, 3 are irradiated to the surfaces of the respective sample pieces 10, 11 provided to respective pressure- welding parts 8, 9. When the respective sample pieces 10, 11 receive the treatment of Ar ion sputtering for a fixed time, the sample piece 11 is pressure-welded and butted to the sample piece 10 to a firm one body, by the crystal rotation of the surface produced by the removal of the surface film layer of the surface parts of the respective sample pieces 10, 11 and pressurizing, if an operating rod 13 is pressed in the arrow A direction at an ordinary temperature.
