Abstract

PURPOSE: To utilize the titled method for the manufacture of a high-performance device suitable to the utilization of a vacuum, by reducing welding in operation quantity, by forming a groove on the reverse side of a part of butted plate materials to be welded.
CONSTITUTION: After materials are butted mutually as shown in figure (a), a groove is formed on the reverse side of the part to be welded and then TIG welding is carried out as shown by an arrow in figure (b). As a result, the weld zone is melted to a deeper part by the same heating than when no groove is formed. Therefore, the butt groove is not left on the reverse side of the weld zone and thick welding is performed. This welding method is suitable to the welding of plate materials used in a vacuum container or vacuum chamber.
