Abstract

PURPOSE: To cut a square steel pipe or the like with high efficiency by controlling the relative moving speeds of a material to be cut and plasma torches to low speeds in corner parts and to high speeds in flat parts.
CONSTITUTION: Plural pieces of plasma torches 12 are disposed for the respective faces of a square steel pipe 11 or the like. The torches 12 are moved from a torch moving start point 15, and while they are moved at low speeds for the distances up to the low speed cutting ranges 20W21 for corner R parts, the pipe is cut, and while they are moved at high speeds in the high speed cutting ranges 18W19 for flat parts, the pipe is cut. Further, the pipe is cut while the torches are moved at low speeds in the low speed cutting ranges 20W21 for corner R parts and the cutting is completed at a torch moving completion point 22. In this case, the four faces of the pipe 11 are cut simultaneously with 4 pieces of the torch 12. It is equally well to fix the torches 12 and to rotate the pipe 11.
