Abstract

PURPOSE:To execute welding at a high speed, by irradiating a laser beam to a part to be welded, and preheating it locally, in case of butt welding of a thin material. CONSTITUTION:Prior to butt-welding both thin materials whose thickness is <=1.5mm. by the TIG welding method, a laser beam irradiating position is set at 5-60mm. ahead from a target position of a TIG welding electrode, also its irradiation width is set to >=1/3 of the welding bead width obtained by the TIG welding, and its preheating is performed locally. In this way, no magnetic flow is generated in an arc, a stable welding bead is obtained, and a welding bead whose surface and reverse side are very smooth is formed at a high speed.
