Abstract

The pull on a swing arm 3 by chain 6 during winding of yarn onto a bobbin supported on holder 2 and driven by roller 1 is altered by altering the torque exerted by a weight 10 on the chain. The pressure of the drum on the yarn package thereby changes during winding. As the arm 3 swings about point 4 during build up of the yarn package a weight 8 carried at the free end of chain 6 is lowered and turns a wheel over which the chain drivingly passes. The wheel in turn causes rotation of a sceond arm 9 which is mounted for rotation therewith, the arm carrying the weight 10 at an adjustable position thereon. The pivot point of the arm 3 may coincide with the centre of rotation of the wheel in which case a toothed wheel is mounted co-axially with the wheel and a second toothed wheel on the second arm is operable in response to the rotation of the wheel, the chain being attached to the circumference of the wheel.
