Abstract
980,422. Stop motion for winding machines. FR. METTLER'S SOHNE MASCHINENFABRIK A.G. Nov. 29, 1963 [Nov. 30, 1962], No. 47268/63. Heading D1D. A stop motion for a winding machine having a drum-driven spool, the drum and spool being mounted for relative movement as the package grows, comprises a photo-electric device operable when the drum or spool moves into a predetermined position, and means for stopping the wind in response to operation of the photo-electric device. A drum 5 with a helical traverse guide is driven from shaft 1 by friction-wheels 2, 3, 4. The spool is carried in arms 11 fast with a pivot 13 also fast with a sector 16 having a slot of adjustable width 18. On either side of the sector are arms 23 one carrying a lamp and the other a photo-electric cell. As the package grows, the pivot 13 is rocked and the sector moves towards a position where the beam from the lamp passes through the slot and gives rise to a current which is amplified at 28 to energize a solenoid 29. When attracted, the armature 30 moves an arm 33 to lift the wheel 3 off the driving wheel 1. The critical position of the slot 17 is adjusted by rotating a shaft 21 to change the position of the lamp and cell relative to the slot, an indicator 35 being provided. Shaft 21 may be rotated by a worm and worm-wheel operated by a crank. In modifications, the spool support may be fixed and the drum carried by a pivotal or slidable support, in which case the sector is on the drum; the spool support may move parallel to itself and the sector move in a straight line; the lamp and cell may be on the movable support of the spool or drum in which case the position of the sector may be adjustable.
