The sensor 18 is mounted on a pivoted frame 25 whose movement operates a selector switch in the device 28 to supply the tensioners 14, 15 with a predetermined voltage. The frame 25 also carries a traverse drum 17 driven synchronously with the package 11 and having a slot therethrough with spiral sections which serve to traverse the thread. The frame 25 is counterbalanced by a spring 26 and has a damper 27.
