del cuerpo en la posición axial apropiada, la misma puede ser
dilatada y por tanto deformada plásticamente mediante inflado por
bombeo del globo. En esta posición final, la endoprótesis tiene su
diámetro máximo y debe funcionar para soportar el tejido que lo
rodea, impidiendo un cambio de forma no deseado a un diámetro mucho
menor, al menos localmente.
Por tanto, la endoprótesis precisa tener una
rigidez suficiente en dirección radial, pero también cierta
flexibilidad en dirección axial, cuando está en la posición final.
Además, la cantidad de material debe ser la menor posible, y la
superficie interior de la endoprótesis no debe obstruir el flujo a
través del canal (por ejemplo, de sangre) ni ocasionar demasiada
turbulencia.
Los problemas que se presentan generalmente con
estas endoprótesis son los siguientes: tras comprimir la
endoprótesis a su diámetro mínimo alrededor del globo, la
endoprótesis tendrá siempre cierta tendencia a volver elásticamente
a un diámetro algo mayor, lo que puede ocasionar problemas si el
catéter está colocado en el cuerpo del paciente. Además, la
fricción axial entre globo y endoprótesis puede llegar a ser tan
pequeña que la endoprótesis deslice fuera del catéter. Además, una
endoprótesis de mayor tamaño es típicamente un inconveniente.
Otro problema es el llamado retroceso de estas
endoprótesis. Esto significa que tras la dilatación por la presión
del globo, el diámetro exterior se resultará siempre ligeramente
menor en cuanto el globo se desinfla. Este grado de retroceso puede
llegar a ser de hasta un 10%, lo que puede ocasionar la migración de
la endoprótesis.
Un tipo diferente de endoprótesis está formado
por una estructura más o menos dilatable elásticamente, que ha de
ser mantenida sobre el catéter mediante algún medio externo. Un
ejemplo de este tipo es una endoprótesis que es mantenido en su
estado contraído mediante una vaina de suministro, que se retira en
el momento en que la endoprótesis ha de ser desplegado a su forma
natural.
Algunas de estas endoprótesis están hechas de
material con memoria de forma, bien con comportamiento superelástico
o con disparo sensible a la temperatura de la función de
dilatación.
Un inconveniente de estas endoprótesis
auto-dilatables es la necesidad de la vaina de
suministro, que ocasiona un mayor diámetro de inserción. La
retirada de la vaina requiere también un mecanismo de retracción de
la vaina, que ha de ser activado en el extremo proximal.
La mayoría de las endoprótesis de ambos tipos
tienen además el inconveniente de su variación de longitud
relativamente grande durante la dilatación y de un mal
comportamiento hidrodinámico debido a la forma de los alambres o
puntales metálicos.
Otro inconveniente de algunos puntales es su
coeficiente elástico positivo, lo que significa que sólo se puede
conseguir una dilatación adicional mediante una presión más alta del
globo.
La estructura de las endoprótesis anteriores es
típicamente tal que las fuerzas externas que actúan sobre la
endoprótesis en dirección radial solamente ocasionan fuerzas de
flexión sobre los puntales o alambres de la estructura.
Por ejemplo, una celda unitaria de una
endoprótesis Parmaz-Schalz, que es producida por
Johnson & Johnson Interventional Systems, o el ACT One Coronary
endoprótesis, producido por Progressive Angioplasty Systems, Inc.,
tiene en su condición aplastada una forma plana, rectangular, y en
su condición dilatada una forma más o menos en forma de diamante
con puntales casi rectos (Parmaz-Schalz) o puntales
más curvados (ACT-One).
La forma de la celda unitaria de tales
endoprótesis es típicamente simétrica con cuatro puntales, cada uno
de los cuales tiene la misma sección transversal. Además, la carga
de la celda en dirección axial ocasionará típicamente una
deformación elástica o plástica de todos los puntales, lo que da
como resultado un alargamiento de la celda unitaria en dirección
axial. Estas celdas unitarias tienen un coeficiente elástico
positivo. En las endoprótesis basadas en estas celdas unitarias, la
estabilidad contra presión radial depende solamente de la
resistencia a flexión de los puntales y de sus conexiones.

En esta Solicitud de Patente se describe un nuevo
tipo de endoprótesis con una celda unitaria que tiene un
coeficiente elástico negativo y una función biestable. Esto
significa que la misma tiene dos configuraciones en las que es
estable sin necesidad de una fuerza externa para mantenerla en esa
forma. La celda unitaria está formada usando al menos dos secciones
diferentes. Una sección es menos plegable que la otra y actúa como
un soporte relativamente rígido que dificulta el cambio de forma de
la sección más plegable en una dirección. La sección más plegable
se puede deformar en la otra dirección, pero debido a la fuerza que
se opone por la sección rígida, se aumenta de manera importante la
estabilidad de la sección plegable o flexible.
Las fuerzas externas en dirección perpendicular a
la sección más plegable son distribuidas a la sección rígida, y la
sección transversal de la sección plegable es cargada solamente en
modo de compresión. Esto hace a la estructura mucho más robusta que
las endoprótesis anteriores. En las endoprótesis anteriores, todos
los puntales tienen generalmente la misma sección transversal y
propiedades mecánicas, y son usados solamente en modo de
flexión.
La estructura de una endoprótesis basada en esta
celda unitaria da como resultado un aparato que puede ser
comprimido elásticamente con facilidad alrededor del globo mediante
presión de los dedos.
Por debajo de un cierto diámetro crítico, la
presente endoprótesis se deforma elásticamente además hasta un
diámetro estable, mínimo, manteniendo por tanto el globo desinflado
firmemente sobre la superficie del catéter, con un diámetro de
inserción que es tan pequeño como es posible. No se requiere una
vaina adicional, si bien se puede usar para mayor seguridad.
Una vez que la endoprótesis ha sido colocada en
el cuerpo del paciente en la posición axial apropiada, el globo
puede ser inflado hasta que la endoprótesis alcanza su diámetro de
equilibrio elástico crítico. Ligeramente por encima de este
diámetro, la endoprótesis se dilata automáticamente, adicionalmente,
hasta su diámetro máximo final, con el que alcanza su estabilidad
máxima contra presión radial. El diseño permite un gran coeficiente
de dilatación constante en longitud, una dilatabilidad fiable y/o un
coeficiente superficial pequeño.
Una realización adicional de esta invención es la
posibilidad de un tipo de endoprótesis dilatable a pasos con un
rango de diámetros estables.
Otra parte de la invención es una endoprótesis
con varios diámetros externos a lo largo de su longitud, para
adaptarse de la mejor manera posible a la forma de la cavidad
corporal en la que está colocado.
Otra parte de la invención es la posibilidad de
modificar el patrón de tensión y deformación en la celda unitaria
por medio de un tratamiento térmico, de tal modo que la
característica fuerza-desplazamiento de esta celda
unitaria resulta asimétrica o incluso presenta una función
monoestable en lugar de biestable, correspondiendo bien el diámetro
dilatado o el diámetro aplastado a la condición más estable.
Otra realización de la invención es la
modificación de la geometría de la sección transversal de algunos
puntales para obtener la característica biestable o monoestable,
simétrica o asimétrica, fuerza respecto a desplazamiento de la
celda unitaria.
La estructura de la presente endoprótesis incluye
una serie de elementos con una disposición de celdas unitarias que
permiten la estabilidad de manera especial. Cada celda unitaria está
compuesta por al menos dos secciones distintas, conectadas
mecánicamente, con comportamientos mecánicos diferentes. Una sección
actúa como un soporte relativamente rígido para la sección más
flexible que coopera con ella en sentido contrario. La sección más
flexible es responsable de casi toda, si no de toda, la dilatación
de la endoprótesis. Hay varias maneras de fabricar una endoprótesis
sobre la base de este principio, y el mismo puede estar hecho de
varios materiales tales como polímeros, compuestos, metales
convencionales o aleaciones con memoria de forma con comportamiento
superelástico o con comportamiento sensible a la temperatura.
El mismo puede estar formado por una disposición
de alambres o flejes, soldados entre sí en lugares específicos.
Otra posibilidad es la deposición de metal según el patrón deseado
sobre un sustrato o el uso de la sinterización de polvo
pre-aleado.
Otro método consiste en hacer la endoprótesis a
partir de un material inicial de forma tubular, con un patrón de
hendiduras o ranuras hechas en la pared por medio de ataque químico,
amolado, corte (por ejemplo, con láser, agua, etc.),
electro-erosión o cualquier otro método apropiado.
El patrón puede también ser formado en una placa plana, que es a
continuación soldada, soldada con latón, o engarzada para obtener
una forma más o menos cilíndrica o una sección central cilíndrica
con dos extremos cónicos con mayores diámetros.

Fig. 1 muestra el principio sobre el que se basa
la endoprótesis, Fig. 1a muestra una varilla 1 con una longitud L,
que es comprimida en su dirección axial; la misma alcanza su tensión
de pandeo. Entonces, la parte central de la varilla flexionará
hacia fuera en dirección lateral, bien a la posición 2 o 3 (líneas
de trazos en Fig. 1b). Si el desplazamiento axial L de los extremos
de la varilla se mantiene estable mediante abrazaderas externas 4,
es posible mover la sección central de la varilla entre las dos
posiciones estables 2 y 3. Este movimiento tiene lugar en una
dirección X perpendicular al eje longitudinal original
A-A de la varilla 1. Todas las posiciones entre las
posiciones estables 2 y 3 son inestables. En Fig. 1b, la parte
central de la varilla ha de rotar un ángulo \beta antes de que la
varilla se pueda mover en la dirección X. Fig. 1c muestra una
curvatura de segundo orden en la varilla 1, que ocurre si la
rotación en el ángulo \beta es impedida mediante sujeción de la
parte central de la varilla 1 y mantenimiento de esta parte
paralelamente al eje A-A.
Fig. 2 muestra la fuerza F como función del
desplazamiento X, representándose X en dirección horizontal. La
varilla se mueve desde la posición estable superior 2 a la inferior
3 de Fig. 1. La fuerza aumenta rápidamente desde cero hasta Fmax.
En este momento se alcanza la iniciación bien de la curvatura de
primero o de segundo grado de Fig. 1b y 1c. Un desplazamiento
adicional en la dirección X requiere menos fuerza, porque el sistema
elástico tiene un coeficiente elástico negativo. La fuerza llega a
ser incluso cero en la posición central, y ocurre automáticamente
un movimiento adicional. En Fig. 2 se puede ver que el sistema es
completamente simétrico y que la fuerza necesaria para el
movimiento de retroceso desde la posición inferior a la superior
tiene la misma característica.
Fig. 3 muestra la varilla 5, que tendrá una
característica fuerza-desplazamiento asimétrica,
porque la misma tiene ya una curvatura previamente ajustada,
incluso en la posición no cargada, en la que la longitud es ya L -
\DeltaL. Esto se puede conseguir mediante deformación plástica
previa, tratamiento térmico o el uso de una geometría asimétrica de
la sección transversal de la varilla (que no se muestra). La varilla
5 en Fig. 3 puede estar montada entre dos abrazaderas con una
longitud L - \DeltaL, y si es deformada elásticamente de la misma
manera que la varilla en Fig. 1b y 1c, tendrá una distribución de
tensiones diferente en sección transversal en las posiciones
extremas 2 y 3, en comparación con la varilla de Fig. 1. Esto
significa que la varilla ha adoptado una posición estable
descargada preferente, mostrada en Fig. 3.
Fig. 4 muestra la característica
fuerza-desplazamiento asimétrica de la varilla
pre-curvada de Fig. 3. El desplazamiento inicial
desde la posición estable superior precisa una fuerza inicial F1, y
si la varilla está en su posición estable inferior la fuerza
inicial en dirección opuesta es sólo F2, siendo F2 menor que F1. La
fuerza F2 se puede hacer tan pequeña como se desee, incluso cero o
negativa, pero tiene que tener un valor positivo si se requiere una
estabilidad de la posición inferior.
Fig. 5a y 5b muestran el aspecto general de una
endoprótesis tubular según la invención en configuraciones
completamente contraída y completamente dilatada respectivamente. La
endoprótesis, en su estado completamente contraído mostrado
generalmente en 50 y en su estado completamente dilatado mostrado
generalmente en 60, está compuesta por una pluralidad de celdas
unitarias biestables interconectadas (mostradas en estado dilatado
en 64 en Fig. 5b). Las celdas biestables unitarias están formadas
por un primer segmento relativamente rígido 52 (66 en Fig. 5b) y de
un segundo segmento relativamente flexible 54 (68 en Fig. 5b) unidos
entre sí en los extremos 70 y 72. Los segundos segmentos
relativamente flexibles 68 están interconectados con miembros
relativamente rígidos adyacentes 66. Las celdas adyacentes en
sentido longitudinal (el eje longitudinal se designa mediante el
número de referencia 75) están unidas en los extremos 70 y 72.
Mediante aplicación de una fuerza uniforme radialmente hacia fuera
o hacia dentro, la endoprótesis puede ser transferida directamente
desde una configuración completamente contraída a una completamente
dilatada o viceversa.
Fig. 6 (correspondiente al detalle 6 en Fig. 5b)
muestra una pequeña parte de una endoprótesis tal como la mostrado
en las Fig. 5, que usa la función biestable de una celda unitaria de
acuerdo con la presente invención. El dibujo muestra una línea
horizontal A-A, que es paralela al eje central de la
endoprótesis. Hay dos series de segmentos sinusoidales con distinto
tamaño (véase también Fig. 9 para una vista general). Los segmentos
7 y 9 tienen una sección transversal relativamente grande. Sólo el
segmento 9 se muestra por entero. Los segmentos 8 y 10 tienen una
sección transversal relativamente más pequeña, y aquí sólo el
segmento 8 se muestra por entero. Los segmentos están
interconectados, por ejemplo soldados, en las junturas 11 y 12.
Debido a la diferencia entre la sección
transversal de los segmentos 8 y 9, la fuerza de deformación del
segmento 8 es mucho más baja que la correspondiente al segmento 9.
Por tanto, el segmento 9 se puede considerar como una abrazadera
relativamente rígida, como las abrazaderas 4 en Fig. 1b, que se
opone al desplazamiento relativo entre las junturas 12 en dirección
axial, paralelamente al eje A-A. En contraste, el
segmento 8 actúa como una varilla flexible, como la varilla 1
descrita en Fig. 1 o la varilla 5 descrita en Fig. 3. Esta
combinación de los segmentos 7 y 8 o 9 y 10 define una celda
unitaria, que actúa como un sistema elástico biestable con una
curva fuerza-desplazamiento F-X
similar a las curvas descritas de Fig. 2 y 4, que depende de la
condición descargada y geometría de los segmentos.
Alternativamente, en lugar de usar segmentos o puntales de diferente
diámetro, los segmentos pueden tener los mismos diámetros (a saber,
área de sección transversal) y presentar diferente resistencia o
rigidez y conseguir sin embargo el mismo efecto. Una manera de
obtener tales diferencias en resistencia o rigidez sería usar
diferentes materiales para los segmentos. Otra manera sería usar el
mismo material, tal como un metal, para todos los segmentos, pero
reforzar selectivamente (por ejemplo, mediante tratamiento térmico)
aquellos segmentos que tienen que ser rígidos. Debe señalarse que el
tratamiento térmico no reforzará todos los materiales. El Nitinol,
por ejemplo, resulta más plegable como resultado del tratamiento
térmico. Esta propiedad del Nitinol se puede explotar, sin embargo,
para hacer una sección de Nitinol más plegable relativamente a una
segunda sección de Nitinol no tratada térmicamente.
Fig. 7 muestra la misma parte de la endoprótesis
(que se representa en Fig. 6) cerca de la posición de equilibrio
elástico. El segmento 8 ha sido deformado en la dirección X,
ocasionado por la fuerza F, pero el segmento 9 tiene casi su forma
original, debido a su mayor rigidez.
Fig. 8 muestra la misma celda unitaria de la
endoprótesis de Fig. 6-7 una vez que ha sido
comprimida a través de la posición de equilibrio elástico. El mismo
pasa elásticamente, automáticamente a su posición estable de Fig.
8. Esta fuerza de desviación elástica puede ser lo bastante fuerte
para mantener un globo desinflado de modo hermético sobre el
vástago del catéter (no mostrado), dependiendo de las
características mecánicas (por ejemplo, la resistencia) del (de
los) material(es) usado(s) para hacer los segmentos.
Con la geometría mostrada en estas figuras, los segmentos 8 y 9
ajustan estrechamente entre sí, ocupando una magnitud mínima de
espacio cuando la endoprótesis está en su diámetro estable
mínimo.
Fig. 9 muestra una sección de la endoprótesis de
las Fig. 5, aplanada para fines ilustrativos, que muestra varios
segmentos flexibles en la forma estable aplastada (segmentos 14, 18
y 20) y un segmento, elemento 16, en la forma estable dilatada. Los
segmentos 13, 15, 17 y 19 son segmentos relativamente rígidos que
mantienen sustancialmente su forma original. La distancia entre dos
segmentos relativamente rígidos se muestra como (h) en la forma
estable aplastada y (H) en la forma estable dilatada. El valor del
desplazamiento (H - h) en la dirección X depende de la altura de
una celda unitaria dilatada o amplitud de los segmentos y del tamaño
de las junturas de conexión. La parte descrita de la endoprótesis
se muestra como una superficie plana, pero debe quedar claro que si
los segmentos 13 y 20 están conectados directamente para alcanzar
unos a otros con junturas 21, se forma una endoprótesis cilíndrica
tal como la mostrada en las Fig. 5. Dicho de otro modo, la
endoprótesis se muestra separada a lo largo de las junturas 21 y en
condición aplastada.
El rango de diámetros estables de la endoprótesis
varía con el valor (H - h)/\pi, cada vez que un segmento flexible
pasa elásticamente desde la posición estable aplastada a la posición
estable dilatada. El resultado es una endoprótesis con una
superficie extremadamente rígida en todos los diámetros, que es
capaz de resistir las fuerzas externas mejor que las endoprótesis
convencionales. En dirección longitudinal, la flexibilidad de la
endoprótesis se puede mejorar desconectando varias celdas unitarias
de sus celdas unitarias vecinas, por ejemplo cortando la central de
una o varias junturas mientras las varias piezas de juntura se
mantienen como junturas.
Otro método para aumentar la flexibilidad es
variar la geometría de varias secciones de las celdas unitarias en
dirección longitudinal desde la forma relativamente flexible a la
relativamente rígida varias veces a lo largo de la longitud total
de la endoprótesis. Dicho de otro modo, haciendo referencia a Fig.
9, uno o más o cada uno de los segmentos 13 - 20 podría estar
estructurado con secciones de diámetro mayor y menor (o flexibles y
rígidas de otro modo) que alternan después de cada juntura 21.
Otra posibilidad, tal como se muestra en Fig. 10,
es el uso de una serie de cortas endoprótesis multiestables 100
alineadas longitudinalmente extremo con extremo y conectados con
junturas de flexibilidad 104 que tienen la misma o diferente
geometría o configuración que las junturas que forman celdas
unitarias individuales.
El alcance de la invención debe incluir todos los
tipos de materiales. Uno de los materiales más interesantes es el
Nitinol superelástico, debido a su gran deformación elástica,
valores de tensión bien definidos, ocasionados por sus tensiones de
meseta, y la posibilidad de definir la curvatura deseada en el metal
por medio de un tratamiento térmico. Una endoprótesis de Nitinol se
puede hacer formando hendiduras o ranuras en un tubo mientras está
en su diámetro estable aplastado o menor. El tubo ranurado es
dilatado a continuación mediante una herramienta de conformado
separada y tratado térmicamente sobre esta herramienta para definir
el diámetro estable dilatado como la forma no deformada.
En un sentido más general, la presente invención
se dirige a un dispositivo que tiene una pluralidad de
configuraciones estables. El dispositivo está compuesto por una
pluralidad de celdas multiestables interconectadas. Las celdas
incluyen una o más secciones relativamente rígidas y una o más
secciones relativamente flexibles interconectadas al objeto de
definir una estructura de celda en forma de un sistema elástico
multiestable que tiene una pluralidad de configuraciones estables.
En una realización preferente, las celdas comprenden un primer
miembro arqueado que tiene primero y segundo extremos y un segundo
miembro arqueado que tiene primero y segundo extremos, el primer
extremo del primer miembro en comunicación con el primer extremo del
segundo miembro, y el segundo extremo del primer miembro en
comunicación con el segundo extremo del segundo miembro. Debe
señalarse, sin embargo, que los miembros no tienen que ser
rigurosamente arqueados. Se contemplan asimismo miembros con otras
formas, incluyendo miembros relativamente rectos.
La invención contempla, en particular, celdas
biestables, es decir, celdas que tienen dos configuraciones
estables. En una celda de este tipo, la distancia entre puntos
correspondientes en las primera y segunda secciones es mayor en el
primer estado estable de la celda que en el segundo estado estable
de la celda. Las propias celdas están estructuradas y dispuestas de
modo que el propio dispositivo es al menos biestable y posiblemente
multiestable. Más arriba se ha descrito un dispositivo de este tipo,
una endoprótesis cilíndrica que tiene dos o más configuraciones con
un tamaño de diámetro inicial y un tamaño de diámetro final mayor.
Sin embargo, se contemplan también endoprótesis multiestables. Así
por ejemplo, se puede diseñar una endoprótesis en la que las celdas
estén estructuradas y dispuestas para proporcionar un rango de
diámetros de manera escalonada. Una manera en la que se podría
llevar a cabo esto sería emplear varios diferentes tipos de celdas
en la endoprótesis, teniendo cada tipo de celda una constante
elástica diferente, de modo que dependiendo de la magnitud de la
fuerza utilizada, la endoprótesis adoptaría un diámetro diferente.
Una endoprótesis de este tipo en un estado parcialmente dilatado se
muestra esquemáticamente en Fig. 11. Una endoprótesis parcialmente
dilatada se muestra generalmente en 120. La endoprótesis está
compuesta por segmentos relativamente rígidos 123, 127, 131 y 135
que mantienen sustancialmente su forma original, y segmentos
relativamente flexibles 125, 129 y 133. Los segmentos están
interconectados con junturas 122. Tal como se representa, los
primeros elementos flexibles 125 y 133 están en una configuración
dilatada mientras el segundo elemento flexible 129 está en una
configuración contraída. Mediante la aplicación de una fuerza
radialmente hacia fuera o tangencial, el elemento flexible 129 puede
ser llevado bruscamente a su configuración completamente dilatada,
dando como resultado una endoprótesis (no mostrada) con un diámetro
mayor. Tal como se muestra en Fig. 11, las celdas 138 son más
grandes que las celdas 136 incluso en el estado contraído. Los
primeros elementos flexibles 125 y 133 se caracterizan por un grado
de flexibilidad diferente al del segundo elemento flexible 129.
Otra forma de endoprótesis, tal como se muestra
generalmente, esquemáticamente, en 150 en Fig. 12, tiene un primer
diámetro en un primer extremo 152, un segundo diámetro en un segundo
extremo 154 y uno (o más) diámetros intermedios en una región 156
entre el primer extremo 152 y el segundo extremo 154, siendo el
diámetro intermedio diferente de los primero y segundo diámetros.
Las celdas interconectadas en una endoprótesis de este tipo, tal
como se muestra generalmente en 150 en Fig. 12, pueden tener todas
la misma constante de fuerza y pueden por tanto ser abiertas todas
a la vez con la aplicación de la fuerza necesaria, o puede haber
varios tipos diferentes de celdas, cada una con su propia constante
de fuerza. Se pueden usar celdas de tamaños diferentes con el fin
de obtener la multiplicidad de diámetros. En una realización de este
tipo de endoprótesis los primero y segundo diámetros son iguales,
mientras que en otra realización los primero y segundo diámetros son
diferentes.
Un método de implantación de una endoprótesis
dilatable que tiene una pluralidad de configuraciones estables
comprende las etapas de aplicar la endoprótesis a un medio de
dilatación sobre un catéter, llevar la endoprótesis a un lugar
deseado en el cuerpo, dilatar el medio dilatación al objeto de
dilatar la endoprótesis desde una primera configuración estable
hasta una segunda configuración estable deseada, teniendo la segunda
configuración estable un diámetro mayor que la primera
configuración estable, y desplegar la endoprótesis dilatada en el
lugar deseado en el cuerpo. El medio de dilatación puede ser un
globo, un dispositivo mecánico sobre o en el catéter, una fuente de
calor por la que las celdas pueden ser inducidas para variar de
estado mediante calentamiento, o cualquier otro medio de dilatación
apropiado. La endoprótesis puede ser aplicada al globo en la
primera configuración estable, o puede ser aplicada en la segunda
configuración estable (dilatada) durante la etapa de aplicación. En
este último caso se puede aplicar presión radialmente hacia dentro a
la endoprótesis al objeto de llevar la endoprótesis a la primera
configuración estable para colocarla elásticamente sobre el
catéter. Si la endoprótesis tiene estados estables adicionales, la
endoprótesis puede ser aplicada al globo en un estado estable
intermedio en el cual el diámetro de la endoprótesis es intermedia
entre el diámetro en el primer estado y el diámetro en el segundo
estado. Nuevamente, la endoprótesis puede ser bloqueada sobre el
medio de dilatación mediante aplicación adicional de una presión
radialmente hacia dentro.
Claims (9)
1. Endoprótesis que tiene una superficie que
comprende una pluralidad de celdas (64), teniendo cada celda (64)
una configuración aplastada estable (50) y una configuración
dilatada estable (60), abarcando la configuración dilatada estable
(60) un área mayor que la configuración aplastada estable (50),
incluyendo cada celda (64) primera y segunda secciones
interconectadas (66, 68), caracterizada porque
la segunda sección (68) es más flexible que la
primera sección (66), y la primera sección (66) impide la flexión
de la segunda sección (68) en una primera dirección principal, dando
como resultado una estructura que puede ser deformada en la otra
dirección principal, alrededor de la dirección principal
perpendicular, al ser alterada la celda entre la configuración
aplastada estable (50) y la configuración dilatada estable (60).
2. Endoprótesis según la reivindicación 1, en la
que cada celda (64) es capaz de adoptar una cualquiera de solamente
las configuraciones aplastada estable o dilatada estable (50,
60).
3. Endoprótesis según la reivindicación 1, en la
que cada celda (64) es capaz de adoptar isotérmicamente una
cualquiera de solamente las configuraciones aplastada estable o
dilatada estable (50, 60).
4. Endoprótesis según la reivindicación 1, en la
que la pluralidad de celdas (64) están estructuradas y dispuestas
de modo que las celdas (64) pueden ser alteradas entre las dos
configuraciones estables (50, 60) mediante aplicación de una fuerza
uniforme dirigida radialmente sobre una superficie interior del
endoprótesis (50, 60).
5. Endoprótesis según la reivindicación 1, en la
que cada celda (64) puede ser deformada hasta una pluralidad de
configuraciones intermedias estables discretas entre la
configuración aplastada estable (50) y la configuración dilatada
estable (60).
6. Endoprótesis según la reivindicación 1, en la
que cada celda (64) tiene una posición central de equilibrio y una
característica fuerza-desplazamiento asimétrica
alrededor de la posición central de equilibrio, siendo la
configuración dilatada (60) la configuración más estable de cada
celda (64).
7. Endoprótesis según la reivindicación 1, en la
que cada celda (64) tiene una posición central de equilibrio y una
característica fuerza-desplazamiento asimétrica
alrededor de la posición central de equilibrio, siendo la
configuración aplastada (50) la configuración más estable de cada
celda (64).
8. Endoprótesis según la reivindicación 1, en la
que un primer subconjunto de la pluralidad de celdas comprende
segundas secciones que presentan una primera rigidez y un segundo
subconjunto de la pluralidad de celdas comprende segundas secciones
que presentan una segunda rigidez, siendo la primera rigidez
diferente de la segunda rigidez.
9. Endoprótesis según la reivindicación 1, en la
que cada celda es alterada entre la configuración aplastada estable
(50) y la configuración dilatada estable (60) mediante aplicación de
una fuerza dentro de la endoprótesis dirigida radialmente hacia
fuera, pasando cada celda (64) por un punto de transición que
permite que la fuerza disminuya durante la transición entre la
configuración aplastada estable (50) y la configuración dilatada
estable (60).
