  • a requesting vehicle that has high quality or sophisticated autonomous driving features may enable one or more responding vehicles to respond more quickly or to employ tighter tolerances for merge spacing, timing, vehicle speed, etc., which may enable the requesting vehicle to merge more quickly and into a smaller merge space.
  • a requesting vehicle may have rudimentary or partial-autonomous capabilities, and thus the responding vehicles may employ increased merge spacing, reduced merge speed, or deny the request entirely. If a requesting vehicle entirely lacks autonomous capabilities or lacks RF capabilities, e.g., a lane request is initiated via turn signal, the responding vehicles may employ larger merge spaces, such as 5-6 car lengths, and visual indicators, such as headlight flashing, to respond to the merge request.
  • Figure 9 shows an example method 900 for coordinated lane-change negotiations between vehicles.

If the same, or some of the same vehicles, remain near the requesting vehicle, it may delay transmitting a further lane change request as it may determine that the scenario has not yet changed sufficiently to allow for a lane change. However, if the requesting vehicle detects new vehicles, or a majority of the responding vehicles were not vehicles in its vicinity when the last lane change request was denied, the requesting vehicle may transmit a new lane change request.
  • the requesting vehicle merges into the established space.
  • the requesting vehicle determines a location of the responding vehicle and determines a location of the established space relative to the responding vehicle. For example, if the responding vehicle indicates that the established space is located in front of the responding vehicle, the requesting vehicle may adjust its speed to catch up to the responding vehicle, or allow the responding vehicle to catch up to the requesting vehicle.
  • the requesting vehicle may employ one or more sensors to detect an open space in the desired lane adjacent to the requesting vehicle. Thus, the requesting vehicle may determine it is adjacent to the established space based on its relative position with respect to the responding vehicle and based on detecting an open space in the desired lane. After locating the established space, the requesting vehicle may change lanes into the established space.
  • the requesting vehicle may continue to exchange messages with the responding vehicle to coordinate a lane change.
  • the requesting vehicle may exchange messages having position information with the responding vehicle.
  • the requesting vehicle, or the responding vehicle may use the messages, or RF parameters such as Doppler information, signal strength, timing signals, etc., to determine relative positions between the vehicles, or to determine rates of change of the relative position, and adjust speeds based on the relative position or rate of change of relative position.
  • the requesting vehicle may then determine its position relative to the responding vehicle and the established space based on the exchanged messages, and merge into the established space once it has determined it is adjacent to it.
  • the responding vehicle may detect when the requesting vehicle is adjacent to the established space, and transmit a message to the requesting vehicle indicating it should change lanes into the established space.
  • the responding vehicle may identify the requesting vehicle using CV information, location information, RF parameters, or any combination.
  • the responding vehicle may recognize the requesting vehicle based on a CV recognition of a license plate and compare the recognized license plate with license plate information contained in the lane change request. The responding vehicle may then determine a range to the requesting vehicle and, when the requesting vehicle is at a distance adjacent to the established space, the responding vehicle may transmit a message indicating that the requesting vehicle may merge into the established space. The requesting vehicle may then merge into the established space in the lane.
  • Figure 10 shows an example system for coordinated lane-change negotiations between vehicles.
  • the system includes a lane management system 1080, which includes one or more servers 1082 and one or more data stores 1084, and is in communication with one or more of the vehicles 1040, 1042a-c, and 1044 travelling on road 1000 via the network 1070 and wireless transceiver 1050.
  • the server(s) 1082 may be any suitable computing device according to this disclosure, such as the computing device described with respect to Figure 3 , and may perform any methods, or parts of methods, according to this disclosure, including the various methods described above with respect to Figure 5 and Figures 6A-6C , 7A-7C , and 8 .
  • the lane management system 1080 may receive messages from one or more requesting vehicles and identify and communicate the request to one or more nearby vehicles that may act as responding vehicles. Further, the lane management system 1080 may receive messages from one or more responding vehicles and coordinate a requested lane change with the responding vehicle(s) as generally as described above with respect to Figures 5 , 6A-6C , 7A-7C , and 8 . Thus, the lane management may stand in to perform one or more operations for a requesting or responding vehicle according to different examples, and communicate the results of such operations to the requesting or responding vehicles, as appropriate.

Claims (13)

  1. Ein Verfahren, das Folgendes aufweist:
    Empfangen (510), durch eine Recheneinrichtung eines ersten Fahrzeugs einer Vielzahl von Fahrzeugen (442b, 442c), einer Spurwechselanfrage von einem anfragenden Fahrzeug (440), wobei das anfragende Fahrzeug (440) anfragt, seine Fahrspur zu einer anderen Fahrspur zu wechseln, die durch die Vielzahl von Fahrzeugen (442b, 442c) belegt wird;
    wobei das Verfahren weiter gekennzeichnet ist durch
    Aushandeln, unter der Vielzahl von Fahrzeugen (442b, 442c) ein antwortendes Fahrzeug (442b) der Vielzahl von Fahrzeugen (442b, 442c) zu bestimmen, das den Wechsel des anfragenden Fahrzeugs (440) zu der anderen Fahrspur, die durch die Vielzahl von Fahrzeugen (442b, 442c) belegt wird, koordinieren wird;
    Koordinieren (530), durch das antwortende Fahrzeug (442b) der Vielzahl von Fahrzeugen (442b, 442c), einen Raum einzurichten, um das anfragende Fahrzeug (440) in der anderen Fahrspur aufzunehmen; und
    Senden (540), durch das antwortende Fahrzeug (442b), einer Spurwechselantwort an das anfragende Fahrzeug (440).
  2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, wobei das Koordinieren (530) Folgendes aufweist:
    Bestimmen von zwei Fahrzeugen der Vielzahl von Fahrzeugen (442b, 442c), zwischen denen der Raum geschaffen werden soll;
    Bestimmen einer minimalen Distanz zum Schaffen des Raums; und
    Kommunizieren der minimalen Distanz und eines Befehls zum Ändern einer Fahrgeschwindigkeit an wenigstens eines der zwei bestimmten Fahrzeuge, um den Raum zu schaffen.
  3. Verfahren nach Anspruch 2, wobei das Bestimmen der zwei Fahrzeuge Folgendes aufweist
    Bestimmen einer Position des anfragenden Fahrzeugs (440);
    Bestimmen einer Distanz zwischen dem anfragenden Fahrzeug (440) und jedem der Vielzahl von Fahrzeugen (442b, 442c); und
    Bestimmen einer Fahrreihenfolge der Vielzahl von Fahrzeugen (442b, 442c).
  4. Verfahren nach Anspruch 3, wobei das Kommunizieren der minimalen Distanz und des Befehls zum Ändern der Fahrgeschwindigkeit Folgendes aufweist:
    Kommunizieren eines Befehls zum Erhöhen einer Geschwindigkeit eines vordersten Fahrzeugs der Vielzahl von Fahrzeugen (442b, 442c), und
    Kommunizieren eines Befehls zum Verringern einer Geschwindigkeit eines hintersten Fahrzeuges der Vielzahl von Fahrzeugen (442b, 442c).
  5. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, wobei das Empfangen (510) der Spurwechselanfrage von dem anfragenden Fahrzeug (440) Folgendes aufweist:
    Detektieren, unter Nutzung eines Bildsensors, eines aktivierten Abbiegesignals an dem anfragenden Fahrzeug (440); oder
    Empfangen einer Funkfrequenzkommunikation von dem anfragenden Fahrzeug (440).
  6. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, wobei die Spurwechselantwort den geschaffenen Raum anzeigt.
  7. Eine Vorrichtung, die Folgendes aufweist:
    Mittel, die ausgelegt sind zum Empfangen (510), durch ein erstes Fahrzeug einer Vielzahl von Fahrzeugen (442b, 442c), einer Spurwechselanfrage von einem anfragenden Fahrzeug (440), wobei das anfragende Fahrzeug (440) anfragt, seine Fahrspur zu einer anderen Fahrspur zu wechseln, die durch die Vielzahl von Fahrzeugen (442b, 442c) belegt wird;
    wobei die Vorrichtung weiter gekennzeichnet ist durch
    Mittel, die ausgelegt sind zum Aushandeln mit der Vielzahl von Fahrzeugen (442b, 442c), dass das erste Fahrzeug ein antwortendes Fahrzeug (442b) der Vielzahl von Fahrzeugen (442b, 442c) sein soll, das den Wechsel des anfragenden Fahrzeugs (440) zu der anderen Fahrspur, die durch die Vielzahl von Fahrzeugen (442b, 442c) belegt wird, koordinieren wird;
    Mittel, die ausgelegt sind zum Aushandeln bzw. Koordinieren (530), durch das antwortende Fahrzeug (442b) der Vielzahl von Fahrzeugen (442b, 442c),
    um einen Raum zu schaffen, um das anfragende Fahrzeug (440) in der anderen Fahrspur aufzunehmen; und
    Mittel, die ausgelegt sind zum Senden (540), durch das antwortende Fahrzeug (442b), einer Spurwechselantwort an das anfragende Fahrzeug (440).
  8. Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 7, wobei die Mittel zum Koordinieren (530) Folgendes aufweisen:
    Mittel, die ausgelegt sind zum Bestimmen von zwei Fahrzeugen der Vielzahl von Fahrzeugen (442b, 442c), zwischen denen der Raum geschaffen werden soll;
    Mittel, die ausgelegt sind zum Bestimmen einer minimalen Distanz zum Schaffen des Raums; und
    Mittel, die ausgelegt sind zum Kommunizieren der minimalen Distanz und eines Befehls zum Ändern einer Fahrgeschwindigkeit an wenigstens eines der zwei bestimmten Fahrzeuge, um den Raum zu schaffen.
  9. Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 8, wobei die Mittel, die ausgelegt sind zum Bestimmen der zwei Fahrzeuge, Folgendes aufweisen:
    Mittel, die ausgelegt sind zum Bestimmen einer Position des anfragenden Fahrzeugs (440);
    Mittel, die ausgelegt sind zum Bestimmen einer Distanz zwischen dem anfragenden Fahrzeug (440) und jedem der Vielzahl von Fahrzeugen (442b, 442c); und
    Mittel, die ausgelegt sind zum Bestimmen einer Fahrreihenfolge der Vielzahl von Fahrzeugen (442b, 442c).
  10. Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 9, wobei die Mittel, die ausgelegt sind zum Kommunizieren der minimalen Distanz und des Befehls zum Ändern der Fahrgeschwindigkeit Folgendes aufweisen:
    Mittel, die ausgelegt sind zum Kommunizieren eines Befehls zum Erhöhen einer Geschwindigkeit eines vordersten Fahrzeugs der Vielzahl von Fahrzeugen (442b, 442c), und
    Mittel, die ausgelegt sind zum Kommunizieren eines Befehls zum Verringern einer Geschwindigkeit eines hintersten Fahrzeuges der Vielzahl von Fahrzeugen (442b, 442c).
  11. Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 7, wobei die Mittel, die ausgelegt sind zum Empfangen (510) der Spurwechselanfrage von dem anfragenden Fahrzeug (440), Folgendes aufweisen:
    Mittel, die ausgelegt sind zum Detektieren, unter Nutzung eines Bildsensors, eines aktivierten Abbiegesignals an dem anfragenden Fahrzeug (440); oder
    Mittel, die ausgelegt sind zum Empfangen einer Funkfrequenzkommunikation von dem anfragenden Fahrzeug (440).
  12. Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 7, wobei die Spurwechselantwort den geschaffenen Raum anzeigt.
  13. Ein nicht transitorisches computerlesbares Medium, das von einem Prozessor ausführbaren Programmcode aufweist, der in dem nicht transitorischen computerlesbaren Medium gespeichert ist, um einen Prozessor zu veranlassen das Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 6 durchzuführen.
