Definitions
- the invention relates to a pump device with a fire extinguishing pump, an internal combustion engine for driving the fire extinguishing pump and a fuel tank which is connected to the internal combustion engine via a fuel line, in the course of which a fuel pump is connected for conveying fuel from the fuel tank to the internal combustion engine.
- Portable versions of such pumping devices are also known as portable pumps, which can be carried to the respective location and are not permanently installed in a vehicle, especially a fire engine.
- the pump used in such portable pumps is a fire-fighting centrifugal pump, which can be driven by an internal combustion engine on board the portable pump.
- portable pumps have the advantage that they can be used away from the emergency vehicle to extract water from open waters.
- Fuel tanks of portable pumps are designed for self-sufficient operation for one hour at the nominal point. To enable further operation, refueling is required. This is done in the fire service area with standard fuel canisters. For safety reasons, the water supply must be interrupted and the engine switched off. Escaping fuel vapors and overfilling with fuel can lead to dangers or environmental pollution even when the vehicle is switched off, e.g. when engine components are hot.
- the aim is therefore to create a pumping device of the type mentioned at the beginning which, in comparison to conventional pumping devices, can be operated for longer without interruptions and is therefore safer.
- the aforementioned disadvantages of the prior art should be avoided.
- the pump device is characterized in that a return line leading to the fuel tank branches off from a branch of the fuel line between the fuel pump and the combustion engine, in the course of which a jet pump is connected, the suction connection of which can be coupled or is coupled to the fuel replacement tank for sucking in fuel from a separate fuel replacement tank.
- jet pumps for transferring fuel between fuel tanks permanently installed in vehicles are made, for example, of WO 2014/036447 A1 or EP0228176A1 known.
- the fuel returned via the return line acts as a driving medium for the jet pump and ensures that fuel is sucked in from the fuel tank. It is possible to refuel while the pumping device is in operation. It is therefore no longer necessary to switch off the combustion engine and thus interrupt the water supply. This is a decisive advantage, especially when fighting fires.
- the jet pump particularly preferably has a Venturi nozzle.
- the Venturi nozzle is a relatively simple component and is therefore relatively inexpensive. Furthermore, the Venturi nozzle is reliable and relatively low-maintenance.
- the jet pump has a jet pump housing with a propellant inlet and a propellant outlet, wherein fuel is used as the propellant.
- the portable pump unit is a portable pump.
- a pressure control valve is connected upstream of the return line to regulate the fuel pressure for the engine.
- the pressure control valve can be used to regulate the fuel pressure for the engine rail.
- the excess fuel that is not required for the engine is used as a driving medium for the jet pump.
- a shut-off valve is arranged on the suction connection to shut off the suction connection when the fuel reserve tank is disconnected. This prevents fuel from escaping via the suction connection when the fuel reserve tank is disconnected.
- the suction connection has a coupling interface to which the fuel replacement tank can be detachably coupled, in particular with the interposition of a suction line.
- the shut-off valve is designed to be self-closing and assumes a shut-off position as soon as the fuel tank is uncoupled. In this embodiment, it is not necessary to actively switch the shut-off valve to the shut-off position, since the shut-off valve, in particular its valve member, is automatically transferred to the shut-off position when the fuel tank is uncoupled.
- a fuel filter is integrated into the fuel line.
- the fuel filter is expediently located in the line branch between the fuel pump and the combustion engine.
- the fuel tank is assigned a level indicator and/or a level measuring device. This allows the fuel tank level to be checked and the refilling process to be initiated in good time.
- the fuel replacement tank could remain connected to the suction connection of the jet pump and then a refilling process to be initiated automatically as soon as a certain level is undershot.
- the shut-off valve can then be designed in such a way that the fuel tank is prevented from being overfilled with fuel by shutting off at a certain maximum level.
- Continuous refilling would also be conceivable, in such a way that fuel is always returned via the refill line, albeit with a significantly lower flow rate, and the jet pump is therefore always in operation. and draws fuel from the reserve fuel canister, whereby the fuel level remains constant until the reserve fuel tank is empty.
- the pump device comprises a fuel replacement tank, in particular in the form of a fuel canister.
- FIG. 1 A preferred embodiment is shown in the drawing and is explained in more detail below.
- the only figure in the drawing shows: a schematic representation of a preferred embodiment of the pump device according to the invention.
- the figure shows a preferred embodiment of the pump device 11 according to the invention.
- the main component of the pump device 11 is a fire extinguishing pump 12, which is described below as an example in the form of a fire extinguishing centrifugal pump.
- the pump device 11 is a portable pump device 11 in the form of a so-called portable pump. In principle and not according to the invention, however, it would also be possible to use the pump device as a built-in pump, where it is then installed on board an emergency vehicle, in particular a fire engine.
- the fire-fighting centrifugal pump which is referred to below as pump 12 for the sake of simplicity, has a pump housing (not shown) that encloses a pump chamber.
- a pump rotor (not shown) is movably received in the pump chamber.
- a radial impeller is expediently used as the pump rotor, which is driven by an output part, in particular an output shaft, of an internal combustion engine 13 located on board the portable pump.
- the pump impeller sucks water or, if necessary, a water/foam mixture into the pump chamber via a suction side and releases the sucked-in water at increased pressure via a pressure side, in the case of a radial impeller, in a radial direction.
- a pressure side in the case of a radial impeller, in a radial direction.
- Several fire hoses can usually be connected to the pressure side, with jet pipes attached to the free ends, through which extinguishing water can be directed to the source of the fire for firefighting.
- the combustion engine 13 can be a gasoline engine or a diesel engine.
- the combustion engine is connected to a fuel tank 15 via a fuel line 14.
- the fuel tank 15 is located on board the portable pump or the portable pumping device 11.
- a fuel pump 16 is connected to the fuel line 14 to pump fuel, i.e. diesel or gasoline, from the fuel tank 15 to the combustion engine 13.
- the fuel pump 16 is arranged outside the fuel tank 15 and a branch of the fuel line 14 arranged on a suction side of the fuel pump 16 extends into the fuel tank 15.
- a return line 18 leading to the fuel tank 15 is branched off from a line branch 17 of the fuel line 14 between the fuel pump 16 and the internal combustion engine 13, in the course of which a jet pump 19 is switched on, the suction connection 20 of which can be or is coupled to the fuel replacement tank 21 for sucking in fuel from a fuel replacement tank 21 separate from the fuel tank 15.
- the jet pump shown schematically in the figure as an example has a Venturi nozzle as its main component.
- a jet pump 19 with a Venturi nozzle is relatively inexpensive because it is made up of few components.
- the jet pump 19 also comprises a jet pump housing (not shown) which has a propellant inlet 22 and a propellant outlet 23. Fuel flowing back in the return line 18 in the direction of the fuel tank 15 serves as the propellant.
- the fuel replacement tank which is preferably a fuel canister, is connected to the suction connection 20 of the jet pump.
- the suction connection 20 is also assigned a shut-off valve 25, with which the suction connection 20 can be shut off when the fuel reserve tank 21 is disconnected.
- the suction connection 20 of the jet pump 19 has a coupling interface 26 to which the suction line 24, which leads to the fuel reserve tank 21, is detachably attached.
- shut-off valve 25 is designed to be self-closing and assumes a shut-off position as soon as the fuel replacement tank 21 is disconnected.
- a pressure control valve 28 is connected to the return line 18 to regulate the fuel pressure in the return line 18.
- a pressure control valve 28 is selected whose valve member is spring-loaded and which opens from a certain pre-set or pre-set pressure. The pressure on the primary side of the valve is determined and connected to the valve member in such a way that the valve may partially close if the primary pressure is too high and open further if the primary pressure is too low.
- the spring preload of the spring the pressure can be varied so that the fuel pressure in the return line can be regulated. Excess fuel that is not required is required to operate the jet pump.
- a fuel filter 29 is connected in the line branch 17 between the fuel pump 16 and the combustion engine 13.
- a fill level indicator 30 or a fill level measuring device is assigned in the fuel tank 15.
- the fuel pump 16 sucks fuel from the fuel tank 15 and presses it on the pressure side via the fuel filter 29 through the fuel line 14 to the combustion engine 13, where fuel is then used to operate the combustion engine.
- the fire-fighting centrifugal pump on board the portable pump is driven by the combustion engine and its output shaft, which in turn sucks in extinguishing water on the suction side and releases it on the pressure side.
- the fuel level in the fuel tank 15 can be checked using the level indicator 30. If the fuel level falls below a minimum value, the fuel tank 15 needs to be refilled, i.e. refueled. If necessary, this can be determined via an acoustic and/or optical signal.
- the fuel canister is coupled to the coupling interface 26 via the suction line 24, with the shut-off valve 25 being switched to the open position.
- the jet pump 19 is operated by fuel flowing back in the return line 18, which in turn sucks fuel from the fuel canister and supplies it to the fuel tank 15.
- the shut-off valve 25 can be designed in such a way that overfilling of the fuel tank 15 is prevented by closing it at a certain fill level.
- the fuel replacement tank 21, in particular the fuel canister is coupled to the suction connection 20 of the jet pump via the suction line 24 during operation, so that fuel is automatically and constantly conveyed from the fuel canister into the fuel tank, whereby the filling level of the fuel in the fuel tank 15 is controlled via a remains essentially constant for a certain period of time until the fuel canister is emptied.
