Definitions

  • the invention relates to a method, a device and a system for producing a book-shaped ID, value or security document.
  • Book-shaped identification, valuable or security documents such as passports, consist of a cover and a passport book block protected by the cover, which has personal and/or document-specific information.
  • the passport book block has several double pages and a data card.
  • the data card is, for example, a plastic or paper-based card on which personal and/or document-specific information such as a passport photo, name or address of the user or an ID number is applied, in particular also in machine-readable form.
  • the double pages can contain further personal and/or document-specific information or, for example, can be designed as visa pages to accommodate visa stamps.
  • the identification, value or security document, in particular the data card can have a chip on which personal and/or document-specific information is stored.
  • a flexible tab is provided on one edge of the data card.
  • the flap is sewn together along a seam with the double pages and a cover sheet surrounding the double pages and the data card to form the passport book block.
  • a folding tape is usually provided along the seam.
  • Book-shaped identification, value or security documents of this type are usually produced by assembling and sewing the passport book block.
  • the passport book block is then glued to the cover and the resulting passport book blank is folded.
  • the sheet of a passport intended for this purpose is to be coated with a transparent film which extends beyond the folded edge of the data sheet and is also interspersed with the seam that combines the data sheet and the visa sheets into the passport, the transparent film then also being used by the carrier may be personal data.
  • the DE 10 2005 034134 A1 describes a book-like document, in particular identification document, with a book cover or a book cover, which comprises at least one personalization data page and a plurality of inner pages which are sewn with an attachment and connected to the book cover or book cover, the personalization data page having a tab opposite a seam, wherein at least a security feature or at least part of the at least one security feature of the personalization data page, the Inside, the book cover or the book cover is inserted into the flap.
  • the document WO 2015/145158 A1 discloses a method for producing a book-shaped ID, value or security document, wherein the ID, value or security document has a cover and a passport book block comprising a data card, several double pages, and a cover sheet, the document further having a folding tape, wherein the data card has a flexible tab connected to the data card along an edge, the data card with the flexible tab, the double pages and the cover sheet being sewn together with a seam, and the cover with an inside being glued flat to an outside of the cover sheet, wherein the cover and the passport book block are folded and glued, the passport book blank being produced in a gluing and folding device by gluing the passport book block and the cover together to form a passport book blank and folding the passport book blank.
  • the object of the invention is to provide a method, a device and a system that enable improved production of a book-shaped ID, value or security document.
  • Embodiments of the invention are particularly advantageous because an individual identification, value or security document can be produced.
  • the passport book block can be glued with an individually selected cover.
  • the resulting passport book blank is then cut to the desired format.
  • Both the selection of the cover and the desired format can be selected individually for the respective ID, value or security document, so that different ID, value or security documents can be produced.
  • the cover and the passport book block or the passport book blank are manufactured with a slight oversize and only then cut to the desired format. This allows manufacturing-related tolerances to be compensated for.
  • this method of production has the advantage that a layer of adhesive that has escaped to the side between the cover and the passport book block can be removed.
  • the length and width of the passport book blank is preferably chosen such that a sufficiently wide excess can be removed at the free edges.
  • an “identity, value or security document” is understood to mean a paper and/or plastic-based document on which personal information is entered and/or document-specific information is applied in an optically readable manner, which enables the user or the document to be identified, for example for the release and use of certain services or functions.
  • the document can also be a voucher or an access card.
  • the document can have a chip or other electronic components, in particular for storing personal and/or document-specific information.
  • a “data card” is understood to mean a paper or plastic-based card arranged in a book block of an ID, value or security document, on which person-specific and/or document-specific information is applied in an optically readable manner, which identifies the user or the document, for example for the release and use of certain services or functions.
  • the data card can have a chip or other electronic components, in particular for storing personal and/or document-specific information.
  • Cutting is done using a milling process.
  • Such a procedure has the advantage that the passport blank is only subjected to minimal stress.
  • the forces acting on the cutting edge place a significantly higher load on the passport book.
  • the load can be significantly reduced.
  • the passport book blank in particular the data card, can have alignment markings for aligning the passport book blank.
  • Aligning the passport book blank includes, for example, detecting the alignment marks and aligning them depending on these alignment marks.
  • the alignment markings can ensure that the ID, value or security document has a defined alignment.
  • the alignment can take place depending on the data card, so that it can be ensured, for example, that a machine-readable zone provided on the data card always has the same orientation in the finished ID, value or security document, and is therefore positioned so that it is machine-readable can be read.
  • the passport book blank and/or the data card can further have an identification feature.
  • the identification feature is recorded and the defined format is determined depending on the recorded identification feature. This means that identification, value or security documents with different formats can also be produced on one device. Every ID, value or security document can be individually produced and tailored to an individual format.
  • the passport book blank is fixed, for example, by a gripper, the gripper gripping the passport book blank from the front and the back, the passport book blank being held in a closed state of the passport book blank, the passport book blank protruding beyond the gripper by a defined amount at the free edges.
  • the passport book blank can be moved by the gripper around the milling device and/or the milling device can be moved around the passport book blank.
  • the gripper ensures easy processing of the edges, as the passport blank can be moved by the gripper relative to the milling device.
  • the passport book blank is kept closed, ensuring that the entire passport book blank is cut to a uniform format.
  • the gripper can be designed in such a way that it serves as a stop, guide, alignment mark or template for the milling device.
  • the passport book blank is aligned before being inserted into the gripper.
  • the alignment can take place after the passport book blank has been inserted into the gripper, if the gripper is designed in such a way that a sufficiently large protrusion of the passport book blank over the gripper is ensured all around.
  • an “adhesive layer” is understood to mean a layer of a material that has adhesive properties at a first temperature, the activation temperature, and crosslinks or hardens after heating to a second temperature, the curing temperature, which is above the first temperature.
  • the adhesive layer can harden by heating or by subsequent cooling.
  • the adhesive layer can be, for example, so-called thermal or hot melt adhesives, which soften above a defined temperature and harden by subsequent cooling.
  • chemically curing adhesives can be used, the curing process of which is accelerated above the curing temperature.
  • two-component polyurethane adhesives known from the bookbinding industry can be used if they harden or crosslink above the curing temperature.
  • the ID, value or security document is placed in this closed position.
  • the cover is usually fixed to the front cover of the passport book block before folding. If the identification, valuable or security document is then folded, tensions arise between the cover and the cover sheet, which lead to the identification, valuable or security document standing up. By final fixing after folding, these tensions are avoided, so that the ID, value or security document is kept in the closed state. Pre-fixing prevents the passport book block from shifting during the folding process, so that the ID, valuables or security documents can be produced with a high level of accuracy.
  • the adhesive layer is delivered, for example, on the carrier film as an endless material, the width of the adhesive layer corresponding to a required width, which of the carrier film essentially corresponds to the width of the cover, and the adhesive layer being cut to a required length on the carrier film before heating to the activation temperature becomes.
  • This ensures that the adhesive layer has the dimensions required for the respective ID, value or security document.
  • it is possible to respond to different dimensions of the ID, value or security document by cutting it immediately before sticking, so that ID, value or security documents with different dimensions can be produced.
  • the carrier film with the adhesive layer is guided in a transport direction onto a flat support, the adhesive layer being applied to the inside of the cover on the support, the length of the support essentially corresponding to the length of the required length of the adhesive layer, and wherein the Support has rounded edges on its front and rear edges in the transport direction, with the carrier film being guided over the rounded edges.
  • the rounded edges of the support cause the carrier film to move downwards in front of and behind the section that carries the adhesive layer to be applied pulled away so that only the cut adhesive layer lies on the support and can come into contact with it and adhere to it when the cover is put on.
  • the length of the adhesive layer is slightly shorter than the length of the cover, this offers the advantage that the adhesive layer immediately following the carrier film, which is in particular only separated from the adhesive layer to be applied by a cut, cannot adhere to the cover. If the adhesive layer also has residual rigidity, the front and rear edges guided over the edges can detach from the carrier film, so that the adhesive layer can be removed more easily from the carrier film.
  • a section of the carrier film with the adhesive layer can be guided onto the support until a front edge of the adhesive layer in the transport direction is located at the front edge of the support in the transport direction.
  • the adhesive layer can then be cut to the required length at the rear edge in the transport direction. This can ensure that the adhesive layer always has the required length and that no immediately subsequent adhesive layer can rest on the support.
  • the required width of the adhesive layer corresponds to or is less than the width of the cover and/or the width of the passport book block
  • the required length of the adhesive layer corresponds to or is less than the length of the cover and/or the length of the passport book block.
  • Heating to the activation temperature can take place before guiding the carrier film with the adhesive layer onto the support. This could shorten the manufacturing time, since the adhesive layer can be applied to the inside of the cover immediately after it has been guided onto the cover.
  • the heating to the activation temperature can also take place on the overlay, with the overlay allowing the adhesive layer to be heated evenly.
  • the support can be heated in order to maintain the temperature of the heated adhesive layer.
  • a gap is formed between the pairs of rollers into which the passport book blank is inserted with the outside of the cover.
  • the rollers press the halves of the passport book blank against the stamp on both sides, causing the passport book blank to be folded.
  • the previous introduction of the fold edge has the advantage that the fold edge is defined, so that it is ensured that the passport book blank is folded in half along the seam.
  • Several pairs of rollers arranged one behind the other can be provided in the insertion direction. The distance between the rollers of the pairs of rollers can decrease in the insertion direction, so that the gap between the rollers narrows in the insertion direction. This can simplify the folding process.
  • a first half of the book can be pre-folded relative to a second half of the book around the folding edge.
  • This additionally defines the fold edge so that the passport blank is prevented from moving during the folding process.
  • the second half of the passport book blank can be fixed, for example between the stamp and a jaw, with the stamp and the jaw ending in the area of the folding edge.
  • the first half protruding beyond the stamp is then folded over at a right angle, for example by a second stamp which can be displaced transversely to the insertion direction.
  • the adhesive layer is heated to the curing temperature and the passbook blank is fixed in the folded state between several pairs of spaced-apart rollers arranged in parallel.
  • These rollers make it possible to fix the passport book blank in the folded state while the passport book blank is transported further, for example to a subsequent processing station.
  • the distance between the rollers of a pair of rollers is selected so that the desired pressure is exerted on the passport book blank.
  • a visual inspection can be carried out to see whether the adhesive layer has been applied flat to the cover. Further processing only takes place if the adhesive layer is applied over the entire surface. If the cover is not completely covered with the adhesive layer, the cover is sorted out and a new cover is provided to which a new layer of adhesive is applied. This avoids the production of ID, value or security documents in which the cover cannot be completely glued to the passport book block.
  • the side edges of the passport book blank can be mechanically processed, in particular a cutting of the free edges to a defined format of the ID, value or security document.
