Bei der vor allen Dingen in Nordamerika verwendeten Holzrahmenbauweise in Form des sogenannten Platform Framing wird die Stützkonstruktion eines Gebäudes etagenweise errichtet und jeweils mit einer Plattform abgeschlossen, auf die dann die nächste Etage aufgesetzt wird. Die tragende Konstruktion der Wände wird dabei durch im Rasterabstand angeordnete Pfosten zwischen einer Bodenplatte und einer Geschossdecke verwirklicht. Eine solche Konstruktion wird in der Regel in einer horizontalen Ebene mit oberen und unteren Gurten vorgefertigt und dann aufgestellt.
