Description

  • Die Erfindung betrifft eine Elektrode und ein Verfahren für gaserzeugende elektro-chemische Prozesse, welche im eingebauten Zustand einer lonenaustauschermembran parallel gegenüberliegend angeordnet ist, bestehend aus einer Vielzahl horizontaler Lamellenelemente, welche in der Art eines flachen C-Profils aus einem flachen Bauchteil und einem oder weiteren Flankenteilen bestehen, und zwischen dem flachen Bauchteil und dem oder den weiteren Flankenteilen ein oder mehrere beliebig geformte Übergangsbereiche angeordnet sind, wobei die Lamellenelemente eine Vielzahl von durchgehenden Öffnungen aufweisen.
  • Das Verfahren für gaserzeugende elektro-chemische Prozesse ist im Stand der Technik bekannt, gleiches gilt für geeignete Elektroden, welche in Elektrolyseapparaten eingesetzt werden. Diese Elektroden sind unter anderem bekannt aus DE 198 16 334 A1 der Anmelderin. Hierin wird ein Elektrolyseapparat zur Herstellung von Halogengasen aus wässrigen Alkalihalogenidlösungen beschrieben. Da die Strömungsverhältnisse bei der Gasproduktion im Elektrolyten durch das entstehende Produktgas nachteilig im Membran-Elektroden-Bereich beeinflusst werden, wird in DE 198 16 334 A1 vorgeschlagen, die jalousieartigen Einzelrippen der Elektrode gegen die Horizontale geneigt einzubauen. Damit wird eine seitlich gerichtete Strömung in der Zelle veranlasst, da die unter der Einzellamelle befindlichen Gasblasen der konstruktiven Öffnung nach oben folgen. US 2009/ 050472A1 beschreibt eine Elektrolysezelle mit einer Gasdiffusionselektrode, die zwei Hauptoberflächen aufweist, wobei die erste Hauptoberfläche der Gasdiffusionselektrode der Membran zugewandt ist und in Kontakt mit einem ebenen porösen Element steht, das von einem Elektrodenstrom durchströmt werden soll, und wobei die zweite Hauptoberfläche der Gasdiffusionselektrode in Kontakt mit einem Stromverteiler steht, der eine Vielzahl von elastischen leitenden Vorsprüngen aufweist, um die Gasdiffusionselektrode gegen das ebene poröse Element zu drücken. US 4 822 460 A beschreibt eine Elektrolysezelle mit einem Mittel, das einen Raum definiert, der dazu geeignet ist, einen Teil der Membranoberfläche der Zelle während des Betriebs der Zelle aufzunehmen. Indem der Druck in einem Elektrodenabteil höher gehalten wird als in dem anderen, wird der Membranabschnitt in Richtung des Membranaufnahmeraums und in diesen hineingedrückt, so dass alle auf der Membran gebildeten Falten entfernt werden.
  • DE 198 16 334 A1 löst aber nicht das Problem, dass nach wie vor eine definierte Gasmenge unter jedem Jalousienelement verbleibt. Somit wird durch die durch Blasenanlagerung Elektrodenkontakt ein bedeutsamer Flächenanteil der Membran "geblindet". Die Blindung besteht darin, dass kein Fluid nachfließen kann und somit keine Gasproduktion in diesem Bereich stattfindet. Diese "Blindung" aufgrund des Gasstaus führt weiterhin zu einer Isolierung der Membran, was die Erhöhung der Stromdichte in den anderen Bereichen der Membran zur Folge hat, was wiederum zu erhöhter Zellspannung und höherem Stromverbrauch führt.
  • Um das Problem der "Blindung" zu beheben offenbart EP 0 095 039 Quereinbuchtungen in den Lamellenelementen der Elektrode vorzusehen, wobei in DE 44 15 146 A1 erläutert wird, dass die Einbuchtungen nicht ausreichend sind, um die "Blindung" zu verhindern. DE 44 15 146 A1 schlägt daher vor, in dem nach unten gereichten Lamellenteil Löcher oder Bohrungen vorzusehen und somit die Gasableitung zu verbessern. Ungelöst ist dabei das Problem des Restgasanteils, der noch im Nahbereich der Kontaktstelle verbleibt sowie die dort behinderte Strömung des Elektrolyten.
  • Dieses Problem wird durch den Gegenstand in DE 10 2005 006 555 A1 verbessert in dem derartige"Blindungen" minimiert werden. Dies wird erreicht durch eine Elektrolyseelektrode einer Elektrolysezelle für gaserzeugende elektro-chemische Prozesse, welche im eingebauten Zustand einer lonenaustauschermembran parallel gegenüberliegend angeordnet ist, bestehend aus einer Vielzahl horizontaler Lamellenelemente, welche ihrerseits strukturiert und dreidimensional geformt sind und mit einer Teilfläche in direktem Kontakt mit der Membran stehen, wobei die Lamellenelemente Rillen und Löcher aufweisen, und wobei die Mehrzahl der Löcher in Rillen angeordnet sind, und wobei die Lochflächen ganz oder teilweise in den Rillen liegen oder in diese hinein ragen. Durch den Einsatz dieser Elektroden konnte eine erhebliche Spannungserniedrigung von über 50 mV bei einer Stromdichte von 6 kA/m2 erreicht werden, im Vergleich zu einer bekannten Elektrode mit vergleichbaren Außenabmessungen.
  • Nachteilig ist, dass durch die Rillenanordnung, eine Oberfläche entsteht, die konstruktive Erhebungen und Vertiefungen aufweist, wodurch es zu einer nachteiligen Gasstagnation kommt und dadurch bedingt zu einer ungleichmäßigen Stromdichteverteilung über die lonenaustauschermembran.
  • Die Lösung dieses Problems hat sich die vorliegende Erfindung zur Aufgabe gemacht. Dies soll erfolgen, durch die Bereitstellung einer Elektrode, die die vorgenannten Nachteile nicht mehr aufweist und ein Verfahren zum Betrieb der erfindungsgemäßen Elektrode soll eine Erniedrigung der Zellspannung und ein damit verbundener erniedrigter elektrischer Energiebedarf erzielt werden.
  • Überraschenderweise wird die Aufgabe durch eine vereinfachte Konstruktion der in der DE 10 2005 006 555 A1 beschriebenen Ausführung gelöst. Gegenstand der Erfindung ist demnach eine Elektrolysezelle mit den Merkmalen des folgenden Anspruchs 1. Vorteilhafte Weiterbildungen der Erfindung sind Gegenstand der abhängigen Ansprüche.
  • Nach der vorliegenden Erfindung wird das Problem durch den Einsatz Elektrode einer Elektrolysezelle für gaserzeugende elektro-chemische Prozesse gelöst. Die Elektrode umfasst eine Vielzahl horizontaler Lamellenelemente, welche in der Art eines flachen C-Profils aus einem flachen Bauchteil und einem oder weiteren Flankenteilen bestehen, und zwischen dem flachen Bauchteil und dem oder den weiteren Flankenteilen ein oder mehrere beliebig geformte Übergangsbereiche angeordnet sind, wobei die Lamellenelemente eine Vielzahl von durchgehenden Öffnungen und eine ebene Oberfläche ohne konstruktive Erhebungen und Vertiefungen aufweisen, und wobei der flache Bauchteil eine Vielzahl von in Reihen angeordneter durchgehender Öffnungen aufweist, die diagonal zueinander angeordnet sind.
  • Die vorliegende Erfindung unterscheidet sich von einem durchgängigen Lochblech, wie es beispielsweise in der DE 69600860 T2 , in der DE 243256 A1 , und der DE 2630883 A1 vorgeschlagen wird, indem sich die Elektrode aus einer Vielzahl von Lamellenelementen zusammensetzt, die durch eine bewusste Streckung durch Kaltverformung dreidimensional ausgeformt sind. Durch diese Biegung wird die Stabilität der Elektrode erhöht und eine Verbesserung der Ebenheit der mit der Membran in Kontakt stehenden Oberfläche erreicht. Eine derartige Zusammensetzung aus Einzelelementen ist wie eingangs zitiert Stand der Technik.
  • Durch die diagonale Anordnung der Öffnungen wird die Fläche des Bauchteils optimal ausgenutzt, um eine größtmögliche Zahl an Öffnungen unterzubringen und somit die Gasstagnation noch weiter zu verringern. Optional sind auch die Flankenteile mit durchgehenden Öffnungen versehen.
  • In einer bevorzugten Ausführungsform der Erfindung sind die durchgehenden Öffnungen im Kontaktbereich des jeweiligen Lamellenelements mit der lonenaustauschermembran angeordnet, wenn die Elektrode in eine Elektrolysezelle eingebaut ist. Diese Anordnung dient dem Zweck die lonenaustauschermembran im Betrieb der Elektrolysezelle mit Elektrolyt zu versorgen, sowie die Gasableitung zu gewährleisten.
  • Die durchgehenden Öffnungen sind als Stanzlöcher ausgeformt. Dabei können diese Öffnungen jedwede geometrische Form aufweisen, wobei Öffnungen mit rundem Querschnitt bevorzugt sind.
  • Vorteilhaft weisen die Lamellenelemente bei runden durchgehenden Öffnungen eine Blechdicke auf, die kleiner ist als der Lochdurchmesser, beziehungsweise weisen die Lamellenelemente bei nicht runden durchgehenden Öffnungen eine Blechdicke auf, die kleiner ist als der hydraulische Querschnitt.
  • In einer besonders vorteilhaften Ausgestaltung der erfindungsgemäßen Elektrode ist das eine oder die weiteren Flankenteile im eingebauten Zustand in eine Elektrolysezelle in einem Winkel von mindestens 10 Winkelgrad von der Membran weg geneigt, Die Übergangsbereiche sind vorteilhafterweise als abgerundete Kante geformt.
  • Vorzugsweise beträgt der Abstand der einzelnen horizontal angeordneten Lammellenelemente in C-Profil untereinander 0 bis 5 mm, bevorzugt 0 bis 2 mm und besonders bevorzugt 0 mm. Durch einen möglichst geringen Abstand der einzelnen Lammellenteile untereinander wird der Prozess optimiert, da ca. 6 bis 10 % der Membranfläche wieder gewonnen werden und für den eigentlichen Elektrolyseprozess zur Verfügung stehen.
  • Das Elektrolyseverfahren, das Gegenstand der vorliegenden Erfindung ist, zeichnet sich durch den Einsatz einer flächigen Elektrode wie sie oben beschrieben ist, aus. Vorteilhaft werden für die Herstellung der Halogengase Elektrolyseure in Einzelzellenbauweise oder in Filterpressenbauweise eingesetzt.
  • Nachstehend soll die Erfindung anhand von Figur 1 näher erläutert werden. Es zeigen:

  • Fig. 1 Zeigt ein Lamellenelement 1 in der Ausführungsform eines flachen C-Profils. Die nach hinten geknickten Flanken 2 und 3 sind sehr kurz gehalten in Relation zum flachen Bauchteil 8, das um ein Vielfaches breiter ausgestaltet ist. Zwischen den Flanken 2 und 3 und dem Bauchteil 8 befinden sich die Übergangsbereiche 4a und 4b. Das Lamellenelement 1 besitzt im flachen Bauchbereich 8 in Reihen angeordnete Löcher 5, wobei diese Lochreihen parallel zueinander angeordnet sind und die Öffnungen von einer Lochreihen zur nächsten diagonal zueinander angeordnet sind. Dadurch kann die zur Verfügung stehende Fläche des Bauchteils 8 am effektivsten für die Elektrolyse genutzt werden. Vorteilhaft findet sich eine weitere Lochreihe in den Übergangsbereichen 4a oder 4b, beziehungsweise sind noch weitere zusätzliche Lochreihen in den Flanken 2 und 3 selbst vorgesehen. Ein wesentlicher Vorteil dieser Ausgestaltung ist, dass der Bauchteil 8 im eingebauten Zustand planparallel zur Membran 7 angeordnet ist, in welchem die elektrochemische Reaktion ablaufen kann. Dabei wird die Membran 7 über die Löcher 5 mit Lauge oder Sole versorgt.
  • Im Weiteren wurde die Zellspannung einer Elektrolysezelle unter Einsatz einer Elektrode, die aus einer C-Profil-artigen Ausgestaltung der Lamellenelemente der hier vorliegenden Erfindung aufgebaut war, bestimmt. Im Vergleich dazu wurde die Zellspannung einer Elektrolysezelle unter Einsatz einer Elektrode, die aus einer C-Profil-artigen Ausgestaltung der in DE 102005006555 A1 offenbarten Erfindung, die sich dadurch unterscheidet, dass die vorgesehenen Löcher in Rillen angeordnet sind und die Oberfläche der Lamellenelemente somit konstruktive Erhebungen und Vertiefungen aufweisen, gemessen. Zudem sind die Löcher des flachen Bauchteils nicht diagonal zueinander angeordnet. Beide eingesetzten C-Profile unterschieden sich in ihrer Ausgestaltung also nur durch ihre Oberflächenbeschaffenheit. Beide im Versuch verwendeten C-Profile besaßen 11 × 62 Löcher, die im Falle der erfindungsgemäßen Ausgestaltung in Lochreihen angeordnet waren, die diagonal zueinander angeordnet sind. Der Lochdurchmesser betrug 1 ,5 mm und die Höhe des C-Profils betrug 23 mm.
  • In der DE 10 2005 006 555 A1 dargestellten Erfindung, wird die vorteilhafte Wirkung der Rillen betont, die damit begründet wird, dass der Bereich mit der höchsten Stromdichte, nämlich der Kontaktbereich, zum einen durch von unten nachströmendes Fluid ideal über die vorgesehenen Rillen mit Edukt versorgt wird und auf der anderen Seite das gebildete und um ein vielfaches voluminösere Produktgas über die Rillen nach oben oder über die Löcher zur Rückseite der Elektrolyseelektrode geführt wird. Dadurch bedingt würde der Fachmann zunächst kein Bestreben haben eine konstruktive Veränderung der Lamellenelemente vorzunehmen.
  • Überraschenderweise konnte durch den hier durchgeführten Vergleichsversuch eine erhebliche Spannungserniedrigung von ca. 60 mV (standardisiert auf 90°C, 32 Gew.-% NaOH und 6 kA/m2) erreicht werden, wenn auf die Rillenstruktur der Lamellenelemente verzichtet wird und die Öffnungen diagonal zueinander angeordnet sind. Dies wird auf eine Gasstagnation innerhalb der Rillen zurückgeführt, die in der DE 10 2005 006 555 A1 nicht berücksichtigt wurde.
  • Vorteile, die sich aus der Erfindung ergeben:
    • konstruktive Vereinfachung der Lamellenelemente der Elektrode
    • eine erhebliche Spannungserniedrigung im Vergleich zu Ausführungsformen des Standes der Technik wird erzielt.
    • gleichmäßige Stromdichteverteilung über die Membran kann gewährleistet werden
    • Problem der Gasstagnation in Rillen wird behoben
    • wirtschaftliches Verfahren durch erhebliche Erniedrigung der Zellspannung möglich.

Claims (6)

  1. Elektrolysezelle, mit einer Membran und einer Elektrode für gaserzeugende elektro-chemische Prozesse, umfassend eine Vielzahl horizontaler Lamellenelemente(1), welche in der Art eines flachen C-Profils aus einem planparallel zu der Membran angeordneten, flachen Bauchteil (6) und zwei weiteren Flankenteilen (2,3) bestehen, und zwischen dem flachen Bauchteil und den beiden weiteren Flankenteilen ein oder mehrere beliebig geformte Übergangsbereiche (4a,4b) angeordnet sind, wobei die Lamellenelemente als Lochbleche ausgebildet sind, die durch eine Streckung mittels Kaltverformung dreidimensional ausgeformt sind und eine Vielzahl von durchgehenden Öffnungen (5) aufweisen, wobei der flache Bauchteil eine Vielzahl von in Reihen angeordneter durchgehender Öffnungen (5) aufweist, wobei die Reihen der durchgehenden Öffnungen parallel zueinander angeordnet sind und die Öffnungen von einer Reihe zur nächsten diagonal zueinander angeordnet sind,
    dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass
    die Lamellenelemente (1) eine ebene Oberfläche aufweisen, die keine durch eine Rillenanordnung gebildeten konstruktive Erhebungen und Vertiefungen enthält und die durchgehenden Öffnungen als Stanzlöcher ausgeführt sind.
  2. Elektrolysezelle nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Lamellenelemente bei runden durchgehenden Öffnungen eine Blechdicke aufweisen, die kleiner als der Lochdurchmesser ist, beziehungsweise die Lamellenelemente bei nicht runden durchgehenden Öffnungen eine Blechdicke aufweisen, die kleiner als der hydraulische Durchmesser ist.
  3. Elektrolysezelle nach einem der Ansprüche 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Flankenteile mit durchgehenden Öffnungen versehen sind.
  4. Elektrolysezelle nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Abstand der einzelnen horizontal angeordneten Lammellenelemente untereinander 0 bis 5 mm, bevorzugt 0 bis 2 mm und besonders bevorzugt 0 mm beträgt.
  5. Elektrolyseverfahren zur Herstellung von Halogengasen aus wässrigen Alkalihalogenidlösungen, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass flächige Elektrolysezellen gemäß einem der vorstehenden Ansprüche eingesetzt werden.
  6. Elektrolyseverfahren nach Anspruch 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass für die Herstellung der Halogengase Elektrolyseure in Einzelzellenbauweise oder in Filterpressenbauweise eingesetzt werden.
