- magnesium contents of less than 0.25% by weight the strength of the aluminum strip, which is intended for structural applications, is too low; on the other hand, the formability deteriorates with magnesium contents above 0.6% by weight.
- silicon is essentially responsible for the hardenability of the aluminum alloy and thus also for the high strengths that can be achieved in the application, for example, after a paint bake.
- Si contents of less than 1.0% by weight the hardenability of the aluminum strip is reduced, so that only reduced strengths are provided in the application can.
- Si contents of more than 1.5% by weight lead to casting problems with regard to the production of the billet.
- the Fe content should be limited to a maximum of 0.5% by weight in order to prevent coarse precipitations.
