When the barrier is raised to its maximum, the extension 34 comes out of the cavity so that the useful height of the barrier is maximum. On the contrary, when the barrier is in its lowest position, the extension 34 is retracted within the cavity so that a sufficient distance is maintained between the lower edge of the barrier and the ground.
