Definitions
- the present invention relates to a dimmable operating device for light sources, which can be light-emitting diodes or gas discharge lamps, for example.
- control units required to control the individual lamps convert these values internally into dimming values, e.g. with the help of conversion tables, which represent the actual levels of brightness control of the connected lamps and the control values that may have a higher resolution (e.g. control values quantized with 16 bits) than the external ones Display dimming values.
- An operating device with a constant current source as a driver circuit for controlling an LED module comprising several light-emitting diodes is in DE 20 2004 006 292 U1 disclosed.
- the driver circuit is connected to the LED module via a total of three channels, of which two channels are used to supply the LED module with a supply voltage that is pulse width modulated in dimming mode, and a third channel (“module identification channel") designed as a digital interface for unidirectional or bidirectional transmission digital operating parameters and / or calibration data between the LED module and driver circuit is used, so that the driver circuit can adjust to this.
- module identification channel designed as a digital interface for unidirectional or bidirectional transmission digital operating parameters and / or calibration data between the LED module and driver circuit is used, so that the driver circuit can adjust to this.
- EP 1 135 005 A2 describes a controllable via a digital data interface circuit for dimming light sources of a lighting system, which has suitable means for generating a control signal dependent on a predefinable desired value for controlling the brightness of the light sources and means for adapting the control signal to different types of light sources.
- DE 203 12 298 U1 discloses an electronic ballast for operating a gas discharge lamp, which comprises a memory device in which operating parameters that can be called up by a control device are stored.
- document DE 101 12 114 A1 describes a control device for a lighting device with variable brightness and a method for lighting control.
- the present invention is dedicated to the task of proposing a flexible embodiment of a dimmable operating device for lamps.

- the temporal transition behavior linear, logarithmic or exponential time profile, etc.
- the assignment ("mapping") of an internal dimming value to be controlled in the stationary state to an external dimming value can also be programmable.
- the resolution of the internal dimming values does not have to be higher than that of the external dimming values.
- the lighting means can be, for example, a single light-emitting diode or an LED module comprising a number of light-emitting diodes, with the stationary assignment of an internal dimming value to an external dimming value compensating for manufacturing tolerances of the light-emitting diode(s).
- the operating device can have a flash memory in which the programmable conversion of the external dimming values into internal dimming values is stored.
- a maximum dimming value restriction below 100% can be selectively defined, which can be switched on and/or canceled selectively by an external command.

These external dimming values are converted into internal dimming values of a control variable StG via a data converter LMK in the operating device BG, on the basis of which the power actuator TB is activated.
- the operating device BG accesses, for example, a value assignment table stored in a memory unit of the data converter LMK (in 1 referred to as a "comparison table”), from which previously stored, linear, logarithmic, exponential or otherwise interpolated intermediate values of a dimming characteristic required for dimming the illuminant LM can be taken.
- the value range of these support values is limited, for example, by two straight lines running parallel to the time axis of a dimming level-time diagram, with the lower limit of the value range being formed by the current actual value of a preset dimming level and the upper limit of the value range being predeterminable by a programming signal PS fed to the data converter LMK is (or vice versa).
- the data converter LMK calculates interpolated intermediate values for the time profile of the dimming characteristic curve for the aforementioned support values and controls the power control element TB with the values obtained in this way. It is provided according to the invention that the supporting values stored in the non-volatile memory of the data converter LMK can be recalibrated via the programming signal PS mentioned above.

- the dimming characteristic runs within a value range delimited by two straight lines running parallel to the time axis, the lower limit of which is formed by the current actual value of a preset dimming level and the upper limit of which can be specified by the reference variable U set (or vice versa).
- the interpolated intermediate values can also be taken from a value assignment table stored in a read-only memory of the LED converter, for example, as an alternative to the above-mentioned calculation assigns interpolated intermediate values.
- the support values stored in the flash EEPROM can be recalibrated via the control signal of the regulation and control device RSE in order to compensate for manufacturer-specific tolerances of the operating device BG, the LED driver circuit and/or the LED driver circuit controlled light-emitting diodes of the LED module to minimize or compensate.
- the exemplary embodiment outlined can provide for the aforementioned support values to be read from the flash EEPROM and switched to a data transmission channel of the bus line BL via a data output READ_OUT of the operating device BG and its digital bus interface IF 1 , so that they can be transmitted to the regulation and control device RSE are accessible via their digital bus interface IF 2 and a data input READ_IN.
- the present invention is not limited to lighting systems whose system components are connected via a DALI interface to a channel of a bus line that is used for power supply, but that, according to the invention, any other digital bus interface suitable for transmitting digital control signals can be used for this purpose can be used.
- the free programmability of the internal dimming characteristic can be used to match the colour-specific sensitivity of the human eye. This is particularly important when LEDs of different colors are controlled in independent channels of an operating device or by several operating devices, since the human eye perceives the different colors (e.g. red, green, blue) differently.
- the internal dimming characteristic for the control of LEDs (or other colored light sources) of different colors can be programmed individually and thus differently.
- this can be done using an operating device with three independent outputs, e.g. an RGB color mixing module for LEDs or fluorescent lamps.
- an RGB color mixing module for LEDs or fluorescent lamps.
- the assignment of the colors and the individual adjustment of the internal dimming characteristic for each color can then only take place in the luminaire during installation.
- an artificial maximum value for a power parameter or combinations of power parameters can be set, for example, by an external command, for example via a bus line.
- This limitation can then be lifted and/or changed from the outside, so that, for example, the actually available maximum power can be released again later.
- this artificial "throttling" can also be achieved by a manual setting on the ballast.
- the internal dimming curve can be adapted to the artificially limited maximum value: In order to continue to use internal dimming values that are distributed as finely as possible, all internally available dimming values are distributed to the range between 0% dimming and the artificial maximum value when the maximum value restriction is set.
- a simple embodiment can provide for (programming) at least two characteristic curves for mapping the external dimming values to the internal dimming values in the device in advance, namely, for example, a division between 0% and 100% and a further division between 0% and the maximum value restriction.

- Circuit Arrangement For Electric Light Sources In General (AREA)
Description
- In
- In

- Fig. 2b
Fig. 1 bis Fig. 2b im Detail beschrieben. - In
- In
- In
