Definitions
- the invention relates to a housing for fiber optic connectors and a method for laying fiber optic cables that can be assembled with fiber optic connectors.
- Fiber optic cables can be connected quickly and securely using connectors. Due to their size, fiber optic cables and / or wires assembled with plug connectors cannot be easily installed in all applications. It is known to first lay a fiber optic wire and / or a fiber optic cable without a connector. The laid fiber optic cable is spliced on at least one free end with a fiber optic cable (“pigtail”), which is pre-assembled with a connector.
- pigtail fiber optic cable
- the invention is therefore based on the technical problem of creating an improved fiber optic connector and an improved method for laying fiber optic cables which can be assembled with fiber optic connectors.
- a housing for a glass fiber plug connector is formed in two parts, at least one housing part being formed with an opening and being latchable through the opening in a transverse direction via a wire cable. If the fiber optic cable or the fiber optic wire is pre-assembled without a housing for a plug connection, the diameter of the pre-assembled wire cable is only slightly larger than the diameter at the free ends. As a result, the core cable can be easily installed in almost all applications. If the wire cable is pre-assembled, then at least one housing part cannot be snapped onto the wire cable in the longitudinal direction, ie from the end of the laid wire cable.
- the housing part is in a transverse direction, ie at an angle unequal to 0 ° Longitudinal direction, mountable on the pre-assembled core cable. It is preferably installed in a slot.
- the core cable can only be pre-assembled at one end for a connector. It is conceivable that the second end is already assembled with a connector. When laying the core cable, it is often sufficient that one end is not assembled with a connector. However, it is also conceivable that the second end is free. The free end is suitable, for example, for splicing on frames and / or housings.
- the wire cable is pre-assembled with a ferrule.
- the ends to be connected touch each other on the end faces of the ferrules.
- the assembly of the core cable with a ferrule requires high precision.
- the core cable is therefore preferably pre-assembled with the ferrule.
- the ferrule can be protected by a suitable device, for example a cap.
- a compression spring can be pretensioned by the housing, the position of the ferrule and the wire cable in the housing being able to be secured by the compression spring.
- the compression spring is preferably preassembled on the wire cable.
- the housing parts are locked. Snap connections enable a precise, safe and immediate connection of components.
- the housing comprises a connector housing and a sealing cap, the sealing cap being connectable to the connector housing in the longitudinal direction of the wire and the sealing cap being designed with a slot for snapping onto the wire cable.
- Core cables assembled with connectors are designed with a secondary coating, for example, and have a diameter of 0.9 mm.
- the slot can be made very narrow for such an embodiment of the wire cable.
- fiber optic cables with other diameters for example 2.4 mm or 3 mm, are also known.
- the slot must therefore be designed according to the application.
- the compression spring is connected preloadable. This enables particularly simple handling.
- the closure cap is designed with two latching lugs and the connector housing is provided with latching eyes which are complementary thereto.
- the arrangement of locking lugs and eyes is preferably chosen so that undercuts are avoided, so that the parts can be produced inexpensively, for example as injection molded parts.
- the closure cap is designed with a flange.
- the flange serves as a contact surface for connecting the sealing cap to the connector housing.
- the housing is designed as an LC, FC, MTRJ, E2000, SC, duplex SC, ST or DIN connector.
- Detachable connections are required within a glass fiber network for many reasons, for example to enable switching and / or easy access for measurements.
- the connector is to be selected appropriately depending on the application and / or area of application.
- Fig. 1 a schematic representation of an unmounted connector and Fig. 2: a section through an assembled connector.
- FIG. 1 schematically shows an unassembled plug connector comprising a plug housing 10, a sealing cap 12 and a pre-assembled wire cable 2.
- the pre-assembled wire cable 2 comprises a ferrule 20, a ferrule flange 22, a compression spring 24 and a wire 26.
- the connector housing 10 has an opening 100 designed for the ferrule 20. The connection to a further glass fiber cable is made via the end face 220 of the ferrule 20.
- the pre-assembled core cable 2 is laid at its place of use.
- the wire 26 is formed, for example, with a secondary coating and has a diameter of approximately 0.9 mm. Due to the pre-assembly, the diameter of the
- the core cable 2 is positioned in the connector housing 10, the ferrule flange 22 abutting an invisible contact surface in the connector housing.
- the position of the core cable 2 in the connector housing 10 is secured by the closure cap 12 and the compression spring 24.
- the closure cap 12 is snapped onto the plug housing 10 in the longitudinal direction of the wire.
- the closure cap 12 is formed with two latching lugs 122 and the connector housing 10 with latching eyes 102 complementary thereto. In the view shown, only one locking lug 122 and one locking eye 102 are visible.
- the second locking pair is arranged symmetrically with respect to the central axis.
- the inside diameter of the sealing cap 12 is at least partially smaller than the outside diameter of the wire cable 2 on the ferrule flange 22 and / or the compression spring 24.
- the sealing cap 12 can consequently not be plugged onto the wire cable 2 in the longitudinal direction via a pre-assembled end.
- the closure cap 12 is formed with a slot 120.
- the slot 120 is preferably made over the full length of the closure cap 12. Through the slot 120, the closure cap 12 can be snapped onto the installed pre-assembled core cable 2 in a transverse direction at the slot.
- FIG. 2 schematically shows a section through an assembled plug connector, comprising the plug housing 10, the closure cap 12 and the pre-assembled wire cable 2.
- the ferrule 20 is connected to the wire 26 via the ferrule flange 22.
- the ferrule flange 22 rests with an end face 220 on a contact surface 104 of the connector housing 10.
- the compression spring 24 is biased by snapping the cap 12 onto the connector housing 10. The position of the core cable 2 is secured by the compression spring 24 and the closure cap 12.
- the connector housing 10 shown is designed as an LC connector housing.
- LC connectors are used, for example, in telecommunications applications, LAN in-house networks, cable television, fiber-to-the-home and / or fiber-to-the-desk.
- Typical cable designs for LC connectors are, for example, a 0.9 mm wire, a 1.8 mm cable or a duplex cable.
- the ferrule 20 of an LC connector is designed as an SFF (Small Form Factor) ferrule with a diameter of 1.25 mm. Due to the small dimensions of the LC Plug connection, LC plug connections are versatile and flexible in use. However, the invention is not limited to LC plug connections.
