Definitions

  • the present application is concerned with a method for setting printing-related and other job-dependent parameters of a printing press.
  • the visual impression of a printed image which may also contain text, is influenced by many factors. These include the condition and type of paper used, the type of colors and fountain solutions used and their admixtures, the color density required by the subject, color distribution, the order of the overprinted colors, and the environmental conditions, such as e.g. Humidity and air temperature.
  • the color guide and the water guide also play a role which strongly influence each other.
  • the mentioned influencing variables are referred to below as input values.
  • Part of the listed values are assigned to the material used or can be read via labeling and taken into account in the settings of a printing press. This includes, for example, the color used or the paper used.
  • Other predefined input variables are, for example, the color distribution based on the given subject, the order of the colors printed on one another or the preselected printing speed.
  • Such input variables are taken into account at the beginning of the proof or print run in the machine settings of the printing press (such as, for example, ink-zone openings, moisture setting, sheet-guiding blowing air, dryer output).
  • Result parameters such as the printed color and the achieved color density can be measured with some effort and readjusted on the press.
  • the subjective impression of the operator on the printing press is more important than the measurement result.
  • One reason for this is that the totality of said parameters is subject to certain tolerances, so that the trained eye of the operator for producing an optimum printing result is more important than the results of predetermined machine settings.
  • Settings on the press do not only have to be made once, but often become. Necessary is a setting, for example, to produce a pressure on a printing machine used especially for this purpose, which is then presented to the customer to assess and determine the desired printing result. The readings resulting from measurements on the proof (original) approved by the customer then serve as a basis for the means of production or printing. Although a number of measured input variables are made available in such a device of a printing press, the establishment of a printing press for the printing is still very expensive. On the one hand, the tolerances of the measured input variables can add up in the direction of an unfavorable print result, so that the operator (printer) must intervene for this reason alone. Furthermore, it may happen that the printer wants to print at a speed that deviates from the intended graded characteristic values. Again, the machine settings must be changed accordingly to achieve an optimal print result.
  • the color distribution must be taken to ensure that over the entire width of the printed product, ie transverse to the direction of rotation printing, the color is distributed according to the requirement of the subject. This can be the transfer of color from Set the color boxes on the ductor in strips, so that the color on the ductor is distributed according to the subject.
  • a neural network-implemented process optimization model is used to generate for predicted control settings or states predicted process results that are compared to actual process results to determine if there is a mismatch between the actual results and the desired results. If an inequality does not exist on a known or predicted cause, the process optimization model is adjusted.
  • a process control unit for a printing press is known. It is automatically defined by means of a process control system, a control room, the initial Presensteuever conditions determines.
  • a local mapper responds Color attributes of a product printed according to the global control room, wherein an optimum value control unit is provided with an artificial neural network to control the rotational speed of the moistening motor and the zone screw settings according to a feedforward process model.
  • beats DE 198 22 662 A1 a method for operating a printing press over three stages using an expert system.
  • the basic calibration, imaging and color density control steps are performed. This idea serves the adaptation of the different processes, basic calibration, imaging and color density control and optimizes the different processes to each other.
  • the known control devices provide some help in the automatic adjustment of printing presses before printing or during printing.
  • the values determined by the machine over a large number of characteristic fields can only represent approximate guide values for the printer an optimal print result must be changed by hand. This applies both to setting up the press before starting the print run and to setting the machine during the printing process.
  • the printer is thus often confronted with settings in the color distribution or with disturbances that make one of the predetermined characteristics very different setting of the printing press necessary, so that sometimes a complex and considerable waste paper resulting readjustment of color or moisture required is. This sometimes results in setting-up and fine-tuning times becoming a major part of machine times.
  • the input values described in the beginning can be divided into the predefined values of the input variables and special settings of the machine values by the printer, which the printer has to adjust on the basis of his subjective experience in order to improve the printed result of the printed product.
  • the input variables are measured objectively or announced to the printer by appropriate description of the materials used for printing (paper, color), which then adjusts the machine accordingly.
  • input variables are defined by material (eg paper, color), environment (eg, temperature, atmospheric humidity) and original (for example color distribution) defined objectively measurable quantities which influence the setting of the printing press.
  • Machine settings are understood to be the settings made by the printer on the printing machine which it performs to achieve an optimum result, in particular also the special settings which the printer autonomously carries out, as described above.
  • the stored values defined as being successful on the basis of the enable signal form a data record which describes a successful setting of the printing press with regard to the underlying input variables.
  • the invention consists in providing the input variables and the machine settings, which are successful from the printer's point of view, to the controller in such a way that these stored data sets can be used to derive suitable machine settings for later print jobs.
  • the special settings of the machine values by the printer are made autonomously by the printer because they are either difficult or impossible to measure or because the printer wants or has to deviate from the machine settings suggested or preset in order to improve the printing result.
  • the input variables are the parameters of the printing material, the parameters of the subject, given by the parameters of the environment and certain machine parameters.
  • the parameters for the printing material mention may be made, for example, of the paper format, the grammage, the paper thickness or the impact behavior of the paper.
  • the parameters of the subject the color distribution, the color assignment or the contrasts or rasters must be mentioned.
  • An input parameter for a parameter of the printing press is, for example, the intended printing speed.
  • the input parameters for the parameters of the environment for example, there are the temperature and the humidity.
  • the input variables are communicated to the printer by descriptions of the materials used for printing and then entered by the printer into the machine or automatically read in by it.
  • the special settings of the machine values by the printer relate to i. d. R.
  • the special settings may also relate to predetermined input variables which the printer itself modifies to improve the printing result of a printed product in the form of a machine setting, if that is possible at all.
  • the known efforts were made to speed up or improve the settings on printing presses by keeping the machine settings in memory available for retrieval or by speeding up the control processes for readjusting the color guide by fuzzilogics. It is also an object of the present invention to shorten the duration of the setting operations and to make the quality of the printed product more independent of the experience and qualification of the machine operator.
  • the present invention is based on the basic idea that certain settings can be carried out very quickly (possibly automatically) because they are clearly conditioned by input variables.
  • the special settings of the machine values (machine settings) to be carried out by a printer take a comparatively long time and are often associated with a great deal of waste. These special attitudes also require a great deal of expertise and experience from special forces that are not always sufficiently available.
  • the invention is therefore based on a method resulting from the preamble of claim 1 resulting class and solves the problem by the resulting from the characterizing parts of this claim combination of features.
  • the invention consists in making the input variables and the machine settings that are successful for this purpose from the printer's perspective available to the controller, so that these stored values can be used in subsequent print jobs with corresponding input variables. This creates the prerequisite that the values or correction values created by the printer at considerable cost to achieve a good printing result are also available for later comparable printing units.
  • the printer either gives a signal by which it releases the machine values (machine settings) autonomously set by it for further treatment by the controller .
  • the controller declares the machine specific values set by the printer to be authentic after the printer has not entered new stand-alone special machine values for a sufficient number of prints or printed sheets.
  • the obviously successful machine settings of the controller are then made available for further use on future new printed products.
  • the parameters have been found according to claim 1. Typical machine settings set or changed autonomously by the printer are specified therein, which are then made available to the controller in response to an enable signal.
  • An important development of the invention provides that the control in the establishment of the printing machine for a new printed product, the machine settings in consideration of the previously proven successful as machine settings in a suitable manner or makes at least the setting-up operator appropriate proposals. In this way, the wealth of experience that was gained by the successful machine settings for comparable previous printed products at considerable cost, is also available for newer machine settings.
  • the controller searches for an earlier combination of input variables that are as similar as possible to the current input variables of a new print job. Based on the previously found most similar combination of input variables, it is concluded that successful current machine settings. Thus, from the stored data records (from input variables and successful machine settings), the current successful machine settings for new constellations of input variables are concluded.
  • the requirements for the control are thus very diverse when setting the printing press for a new printed product. It must be checked which earlier combination of input variables and the input variables of the new print job to be set up are sufficiently comparable. It must be checked which tolerances are permissible for a deviation of the new combination from the earlier combination and for which input values only minor deviations can be tolerated. Based on the results thus found, the new machine settings are then changed by the controller based on the learned relationships in the stored records or appropriate suggestions are made to the newly established operator.
  • a printing machine with a control suitable for this purpose is in one Further development of the invention proposed as follows. Neural networks are excellently suited to the present task because they are capable of learning. They thus reflect the growing wealth of experience of a printer.
  • the neural network of the printing machine is configured such that the processors or nodes operating in parallel from the plurality of data records stored over time recognize relationships between specific input variables with successful machine settings.
  • the neural network learns via a large number of data sets which input quantities in which constellation were of particular importance for specific output variables (machine settings).
  • machine settings specific output variables
  • it is able to weight certain inputs according to their importance.
  • the neural network outputs the most promising machine settings or makes appropriate suggestions depending on the instantaneous combination of input variables compared to similar previous combinations of input variables.
  • the output values are not necessarily identical with previously set machine settings, as there may well be an unprecedented constellation of input variables.
  • input values to be weighted especially the paper parameters (such as format, grammage, thickness, stiffness) and color parameters (such as tack, emulsion ability), dampening solution properties, the environmental parameters (humidity and air temperature) and subject parameters (such Color distribution and area coverage).
  • the output parameters are the machine settings such as ink zone setting, humidity setting, blown air settings, etc.
  • control is constructed tolerant to small deviations from certain input variables. This means that the combination of input variables also then lead to the output of learned machine settings, if the new combination of input variables with a previous combination is not identical, but compared to this only within certain tolerances.
  • This solution consists, in principle, of reading, by means of a bar code reader, the code which is located on a label of the material concerned and describing the property of the material, and to supply the read values directly as input values to the controller of the printing press.
  • the controller then adjusts the respective devices of the printing press accordingly.
  • this method assumes that the material is provided with a suitable barcode.
  • the material can not only affect the color or the paper, but it can also be the type of dampening agent used, blanket or detergent for the machine are described by a corresponding code.
  • the connection of the scanner to the controller can be done by an electrical line but also via a suitable information channel such as an infrared ray, a radio channel or another transmission path.
  • the code reader can be transportable or permanently installed in the controller or on devices of the printing press. If a portable code reader is present, the printer has the option to go to the material and make the reading there, which is then brought to the controller via a suitable transmission channel. If the code reader is permanently installed, the label with the barcode can be brought to the code reader and read there.
  • a Another possibility is advantageously to arrange the code reader assigned to a specific material to a receptacle for the respective material on the printing press such that when the material or the device of the printing press is fed the respective code reader can read the relevant label without further ado.
  • the material is provided with a so-called "smart label".
  • a smart label has the advantage that even changes in the material during the printing process can be taken into account. For example, the reduction of a paper stack during a previous printing operation can be written into the smart label by a suitable code reader and writer. The smart label looks a lot like a credit card, in which the last state of the property of the material is entered. In this way, it is also easy to detect changes in the property of a material from a printing press when the printing press is changed.
  • the printing machine 1 is provided with a number of connections 2, 3 to one central or several decentralized controllers 4. Representative of further connections, the lines 2,3 are shown.
  • information relating to the coloration of a printing unit 13 or 14 is detected via sensors and communicated to the controller 4. This information can describe, for example, the position of the individual ink zones or knives along a ductor roller, which are adjusted according to the color distribution.
  • the information passing through the link 2 may also relate to the height of the ink level in an ink fountain or other data important to the color.
  • information can be transmitted to the controller 4 via the connection 3, which describes the humidity, which is fed to the corresponding rollers during offset printing.
  • connections 2, 3 data run, which describe the setting of individual values in the printing press, which are in particular machine settings that need to be readjusted many times by the printer or from print job to print job have to be changed.
  • the data running over the connections 2,3 are therefore representative of autonomously settable and / or readable data by the printer.
  • the lines 8, 9 get information in the controller 4, which affect the nature and quality of the colors used in the inking units 13,14. This may be, for example, the toughness, tackiness, emulsifying ability or the temperature value of the color used in each case. These values can be read from the packaging of the respective color, for example by means of a code, and then entered into the controller 4 either manually or automatically (for example, automatically readable via smart labels).
  • About the lines 10, 11 get information in the controller 4, which describe the nature and properties of the paper used. These may be, for example, the format, the grammage, the stiffness and the impact behavior of the paper.
  • the data which enter the controller 4 via lines 8 to 11 thus relate to input variables which objectively describe the print job and its conditions (for example air humidity in the pressroom or printing unit, air temperature in the printing unit etc.) and are representative of such values.
  • a control panel 20 is indicated, via which the printer can operate the printing machine 1 and via which he can read the settings on the printing press 1 but also set in the form of a remote control.
  • This information such as the printing speed, color zone settings or fan settings of the sheet guide arrive from the control panel 20 via a line 14 in the controller. 4
  • the printer can read the input variables via the control panel 20 and selects the machine values according to these input variables (eg from tables or also by measuring the original) via the controller. During printing or printing, the printer removes Sample sheets and evaluate the print result. Then he autonomously adjusts the machine values by, for example, adjusting the color zones or the humidity. These set machine values are stored in the controller 4, this storage being done in conjunction with the combination of the present inputs. The stored values, however, can only influence the design of future machine setting values as a successful set of input and output variables if the printer either gives a corresponding command (enable signal) via the control panel 20 or if a predetermined number of sheets have not been re-used since the last setting Change made by the printer.
  • the controller 4 is provided with an artificial "neural network" (not shown) in which the input values and the output values identified as successful are stored and which determines the meaning of certain input values or learn their combinations for the initial values to be set over a large number of data sets.
  • Suitable neural networks are described, for example, in the following references. " An Introduction to Computing with Neural Nets, IEEE ASSP MAGAZINE, April 1987, pages 4 to 22 and further references there on page 22. It is important that such neural networks are able to recognize the meaning of a constellation of input values for correspondingly successful initial values and to make suggestions or specifications for suitable machine settings from this learned relationship.
  • the setting up of the printing press can be greatly simplified for the printer by the use of one or more bar code readers (for example, at the end of lines 8 to 11).
  • the code readers can read a comparatively large number of input variables without difficulty directly from the material intended for the printing into the control of the printing press.
  • a code reader (lines 10, 11) can be attached to the feeder for the paper stack in such a way that it reads the appropriate values from a label on the stack when the stack is retracted or when the stack is retracted.
  • additional suitable input variables such as the stiffness of the paper.
  • the printer with a portable code reader a lines 8,9) read from the label of the paint container, the read values can be transmitted directly through a radio link or optical link without mechanical connection between the code reader and the controller.
  • a so-called smart label is used in the reading of the input variables, which cooperates with a suitable code reader (which can also label).
  • a suitable code reader which can also label.
  • Such a smart label is able to be rewritten by a corresponding code reader similar to a credit card, so that changes to the material (eg, in terms of quantity) can be recorded, which then when using the material in a new print job without further available.
