Definitions
- the invention relates to a paper embossing calender a hard roller and a soft roller together to form a nip.
- Such a calender is known from J. Schlunke "The embossing", special print from "The Austrian paper”, 4/1976.
- Embossing is a finishing process in which a paper web is provided with a pattern that is optically and / or can be perceived by feeling. This Embossing has so far been achieved by the fact that in the surface a pattern is provided on the hard roller, either is pressed directly into the paper web or in that the hard roller first on the soft Roller works and creates the image of the pattern there, so that during the subsequent passage through the paper web the pattern is embossed on both sides of the paper web, so to speak becomes.
- the processing of the hard roller is relatively complex. Add to that the hard roller the soft roller acted on directly arise on the soft roller noticeable signs of wear relatively quickly, that reduce the life of the soft roller.
- the invention is based, another object To provide embossing processes.
- a hard roller is a roller with an unyielding one Surface viewed.
- Such rollers usually exist made of metal. At least their surface is formed from a correspondingly hard metal layer.
- the soft roller is a roller with a resilient, i.e. elastic surface layer, which is usually is formed by a covering, which is on a carrier is arranged.
- the paper rolls that used to be common are today almost continuously by rolling with plastic coverings has been ousted.
- plastic coverings have the advantage that they are relatively smooth can. In the case of the paper embossing calender, therefore, it works first two rollers together, the smooth surfaces exhibit. However, the smooth surface of the embossed pattern into the soft roller.
- the paper web through the nip between the hard and the soft roller is guided, then it experiences in the recessed areas of the soft roller another treatment than in the remaining areas.
- the paper web is smoothed on both sides, while left untreated in the recessed areas remains.
- a pattern in emboss the paper web is retained for a relatively long time. Manufacturing the embossing pattern is easier in the soft roller than in the hard roller because the material on the surface the soft roller of a machining less Opposed resistance.
- the depressions are larger than 0.1 mm. With such a Size will be a sufficient distance between the bottom of the wells and the remaining areas created so that patterns can be embossed.
- the depressions are preferably larger than 1 mm. In order to it is possible to grind the soft roller several times. Experience has shown that with one Regrinding about 0.25 mm material is removed. This allows embossing over a longer period of time perform. If, however, with every regrinding process to create a new pattern, choose the Wells with a depth of less than 0.2 mm.
- the depressions preferably each have floor surfaces on whose roughness is greater than that of the surface is. This configuration has several advantages. To the one, it is not necessary to close the floor surfaces smooth. After inserting the wells you can rather they are left in the roughness that has been caused by the machining process. Above all, you can also accept that the Depth of the recesses after several regrinds has decreased significantly. Even if the paper web then contacted the bottom surface of the wells to recognize the pattern.
- those remaining between the depressions Surface areas a roughness of ⁇ 1 ⁇ m on.
- the surface of the soft roller is therefore relative smooth, which can be achieved with modern plastic.
- the roughness Ra is preferably between 0.3 and 1 ⁇ m. The roughness should definitely be so small be that in the surface areas between the Indentations no matt satin results in which the paper surface is roughened.
- the smoothness preferably corresponds to the surface areas a freshly ground soft roller Smooth the surface of the hard roller after a predetermined one Operating time. Even the surface of the hard So roller is smooth, so that when embossing one Side of the paper web gives a relatively high smoothness, while the other side of the paper web is just in smoothed the surface areas between the depressions becomes.
- a freshly ground soft roller often has a roughness value Ra in the range of 0.3 to 0.5 ⁇ m on the course of the operation changed about 1 ⁇ m.
- a hard roller for example made of chilled cast iron, has a surface roughness after grinding of about 0.08 ⁇ m, which after a certain Operating time deteriorated to 0.5 ⁇ m. If this Value is reached, is usually a revision again required.
- the depressions are preferably milled or turned. Milling is a relatively simple type of machining, to make the wells. Let it spin prefer to create patterns that later in the paper web run in the longitudinal direction.
- the depressions be etched. This makes it much more complex Create patterns, for example using photolithographic process. However, it is Handling the roller during etching is somewhat more complex.
- the line load in the nip is preferably in the range from 100 to 400 N / mm, preferably from 150 to 250 N / mm. This line load is suitable, one clearly discernible difference in the surface areas between the wells and the wells generate so that the embossing pattern is clearly recognizable.
- the hard roller be at a surface temperature in the range of 50 to 150 ° C, preferably 100 to 130 ° C, is heated. Then arise in the nip corresponding temperatures leading to a corresponding Deformation of the paper web in the nip are useful.
- the rollers advantageously rotate at a peripheral speed in the range from 600 to 100 m / min, preferably from 700 to 950 m / min.
- the calender is preferably designed as an online calender. So you can emboss the paper web immediately following a paper or coating machine cause. This eliminates the effort for embossing kept relatively small.
- FIG. 1 schematically shows a paper embossing calender 1 with a hard roller 2 that has a smooth surface has, and a soft roller 3, which has a plastic covering 4, whose surface also is smooth.
- the roughness Ra of the surface of the soft Roller 3 is in the range of 0.3 to 1 ⁇ m, i.e. the Roller 3 has a roughness Ra after grinding Range from 0.3 to 0.5 ⁇ m, which then turns on during operation increases by about 1 ⁇ m.
- the roughness of the surface of the hard roller 2 In a corresponding order of magnitude lies the roughness of the surface of the hard roller 2.
- the roughness increases in operation by about 0.08 ⁇ m to about 0.5 ⁇ m before revision is required becomes. If necessary, the surface of the hard Roller to be even smoother.
- the two rollers 2, 3 together form a nip 5, through which a paper web 6 is guided.
- the paper embossing calender 1 is only for embossing paper webs 6 thought.
- Fig. 2 shows a section of a settlement the surface of the soft roller 3, i.e. one View of the radial outside of the covering 4.
- the covering 4 thus has depressions on its surface 7, between the surface areas or webs 8 remain, the roughness of the roughness of the original Surface of the covering 4 corresponds.
- the Roughness in the bottom surfaces of the depressions 7 can and should be greater than the roughness of the remaining Surface areas 8.
- the paper web 6 is pressurized in the nip 5. Pressure elements, not shown, act here so on the two rollers 2, 3 that a stretch load in the nip 5 from 100 to 400 N / mm prevails. preferably, the line load is in the range of 150 to 250 N / mm.
- the areas of the paper web 6 between the remaining surface areas 8 and hard roller 2 are more compressed than the areas the paper web 6, which the recesses 7th opposite. At the same time, those on the surface areas 8 adjacent areas of the paper web 6 also smoothed more. This then leads to the surface of the paper web 6 different areas arise, optically and possibly also can be clearly distinguished from each other by feeling. For example, the areas of the paper web shine 6, which have applied to the surface areas 8, stronger than those that have covered the recesses 7.
- the processing of the paper web can be supported 6 in the nip 5 in that the hard roller 2 is heated is.
- Surface temperatures have proven to be suitable here in the range of 50 to 150 ° C, preferably 100 to 130 ° C.
- the depressions 7 have a depth of more than 1 mm. So even if you look at the remaining surface areas 8 regrinds several times and with every regrinding process a material removal in the order of magnitude of 0.25 mm, there is a sufficiently large reserve available so that the paper embossing pattern over a can be obtained for a relatively long period of time.
- the depressions 7 can be produced in several ways become. A particularly simple way is that the recesses 7 are milled. In this case a milling tool 7 in the elastic covering 4 of the soft Roller 3 sunk and applied to the switch Roller 3 so that only the webs or remaining Surface areas 8 remain.
- the embossing pattern to produce consists of the soft roller 3 in certain areas to turn off the wells 7 to generate. Such editing is particular then an advantage if the pattern is linear extends in the longitudinal direction of the embossed paper web.
- the wells can be 7 also etch out.
- the embossing calender 1 can be used as an online calender become, i.e. the paper web can immediately follow embossed on a paper or coating machine become.
- the rollers 2, 3 rotate at a peripheral speed in the order of 600 to 1000 m / min. Despite this relatively high speed is an embossing of the samples with the desired quality possible.
