Definitions
- HEM waves Mixed electromagnetic waves degenerate with respect to the axis of rotation (z-axis) in a cylindrical dielectric resonator arranged within a metallic shielding cavity, that is, two waves with an identical natural resonance frequency.
- the HEM wave with the lowest resonance frequency is the HEM ⁇ wave.
- a coupling screw which is inserted into the shield, it is possible to couple the energy between the two HEMu ⁇ cells and to cause the energy in the resonator to split into a pair of orthogonal waves.
- Such a coupling allows the implementation of a two-pole filter with only one resonator.
- the HEMn ⁇ wave has a low idle quality factor (Q 0 factor). Furthermore, it is difficult to achieve a sufficiently strong coupling between the HEMn ⁇ wave and the coaxial cable that leads to a measuring device.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a dielectric resonator configuration with which it is possible to achieve a high idle quality factor for a HEM n ⁇ wave and a strong tuning and coupling of the HEM u ⁇ wave.
- This task is solved with a dielectric resonator configuration in which the dielectric resonator is separated from its end plates. This can be achieved, for example, by attaching the dielectric resonator to its end plates with two dielectric spacers.
- a very high idle quality factor (Q 0 factor) a strong tuning of the HEMn ⁇ wave, a strong coupling between the two HEMn ⁇ waves and a strong coupling between the HEM ⁇ wave and a coaxial cable or an antenna.
- Fig. 1 is a schematic side view of a resonator configuration according to the invention, the dielectric resonator being separated from its two end plates by two dielectric spacers;
- FIG. 3 shows a schematic view of the coupling of a HEMn ⁇ wave with a coaxial cable and a waveguide
- 4a is a schematic side view of a quasi-elliptical four-pole filter with two dielectric resonators, which are arranged along the main axis (z-axis); 4b is a top view of the common plate with opening slots which are used for the coupling;
- 4c is a top view of the top resonator with a dual mode tuner, a dual mode coupler, and an input antenna inserted from the top plate;
- 4d is a top view of the lower resonator with the dual-mode tuner, dual-mode coupler, and an output antenna inserted from the lower plate;
- FIG. 5 shows a schematic top view of a quasi-elliptical four-pole filter with two dielectric resonators which are arranged in the xy plane;
- FIG. 6 shows a schematic plan view of a quasi-elliptical eight-pole filter with four dielectric resonators which are arranged in the xy plane;
- Figure 7 is a schematic side view of a dielectric resonator structure with the head of a tuning element located within an opening drilled in the dielectric body.
- FIG. 8 is a schematic side view of a dielectric resonator structure with an opening drilled by the spacers through the resonator in the central part about their z-axis.
- FIG. 1 shows a side view of an exemplary embodiment of the resonator configuration according to the invention.
- a dielectric resonator 3 is separated from the upper end plate 4 and the lower end plate 5 of a metallic shielding housing by two dielectric spacers 1 and 2.
- Some modifications can be made to the resonator, such as drilling an opening in the resonator body. This is taken into account by designating a quasi 4k-fold rotational symmetry.
- the shape of the spacers 1 and 2 that is, the cross section in the xy plane, is flexible. However, it is advantageous to choose the same shape for the spacer as for the dielectric resonator. The easiest way to make the resonator and the spacers from one piece of a dielectric material.
- the shape of the housing wall 6 is also flexible. Usually you can use round walls or square walls or a combination of a round wall and a square wall.
- FIG. 3 is a schematic illustration of a design according to the invention in order to couple the HEMn ⁇ wave of a dielectric resonator 11 with a coaxial cable 12 and a waveguide 13.
- the coaxial cable is coupled from the opening that opens on the end plate through a coupling antenna 14 connected to the inner conductor of the coaxial cable.
- the lower end plate 15 is arranged on the broad side 16 of the waveguide.
- An opening 17 is opened in the center of the broad side 16 by the waveguide through the lower end plate 15.
- a coupling antenna 18 is used to couple the resonator to the waveguide.
- a dielectric ring 19 is used to form isolation between the coupling antenna and the wall of the waveguide.
- a dielectric screw 20 with a low dielectric constant and a low loss is connected to the antenna 18. It can be adjusted from the bottom of the waveguide.
- FIGS. 1 and 2 are schematic side views of a quasi-elliptical four-pole bandpass filter using two resonators 21a and 21b arranged along the direction of the z-axis.
- FIGS. 1 and 2 are schematic side views of a quasi-elliptical four-pole bandpass filter using two resonators 21a and 21b arranged along the direction of the z-axis.
- FIG. 4b and 4c are top views of the upper and lower resonators 21a and 21b, respectively.
- An input antenna 22a and an output antenna 22b are coupled to the upper and lower resonators, respectively.
- Dual-mode couplers 23a and 23b and dual-mode tuners 24a and 24b are inserted from the upper and lower plates for the upper and lower resonators, respectively.
- FIG. 4d is a top view of the common plate with the slots 25 and 26 provided for the coupling.
- Tuning elements 27 and 28 can be used to set the coupling coefficients k 23 and k 14 . Since the
- FIG. 5 is a schematic top view of a quasi-elliptical four-pole bandpass filter with two resonators 31a and 31b, which are arranged in the xy plane.
- the wave polarization is arranged in a direction of 45 ° with respect to the center line of the common side wall, which makes it possible to achieve cross coupling.
- the negative cross-coupling k 14 is achieved by the arrangement of the input antenna 32a and the output antenna 32b and the dual-mode couplers 33a and 33b shown in FIG.
- FIG. 6 is a schematic top view of a quasi-elliptical eight-pole bandpass filter with four resonators which are arranged in the xy plane.
- Three cross couplings (k 36 , k 27 and k 18 ) are introduced in this design. With these cross couplings, k 36 and k 2 ⁇ are negative and k 18 is positive.
- a self-sustaining one can apply when applying a high frequency electric field Discharge occurs when the applied field is strong enough to emit secondary electrons and when the emitted secondary electrons jump back and forth between the emitting electrodes in resonance with the applied field. If the dielectric resonator is to be used for high power applications in vacuum or a low pressure atmosphere, such self sustaining discharges must be avoided. Such a self-sustaining discharge can be easily avoided with the resonator configuration according to the invention.
- the neighboring waves of the HEM n ⁇ wave in the resonator configuration according to the invention are the TE 01 ⁇ wave on the lower frequency side and the HEM 12 ⁇ ⁇ wave on the higher frequency side. It was found that the strengths of the electric field for the TE 0 ⁇ wave HEMn ⁇ wave and the HEM 12 ⁇ wave in the center of the resonator are quite different. The electric field is very weak for the TE 01 ⁇ wave, not very strong for the HEMn ⁇ wave and very strong for the HEM 12 ⁇ wave in the center of the resonator. Thus, removing a cylinder plug changes 51 from the center of the resonator and the spacers, as shown in FIG. 8, the resonance frequency of these three waves in different ways. The resonance frequency of the TE 01 ⁇ wave remains almost unchanged. There may be a very slight increase. In contrast, there is a moderate increase in the HEMn ⁇ wave. And with the HEM 12 ⁇ _ wave there is a big increase.
