Definitions

  • the invention relates to a lid made of metal with an opening system for standing in the closed state under positive or negative pressure container, for example, beverage cans, and a method for its preparation.
  • a lid made of metal with an opening system for standing in the closed state under positive or negative pressure container, for example, beverage cans, and a method for its preparation.
  • the can before opening the lid (by means of the opening system) under an internal pressure of about 3.0 to 5.8 bar, depending on the contents, the degree of filling, of the Storage temperature and transport treatment.
  • the shear-breaking score line for opening the container first tears in or out near the tensile or compressive point of a grip tab.
  • the opening causes the opening segment of the lid mirror, which is determined by the score line, to pop out uncontrollably or abruptly. This creates a risk of injury to hands, face and eyes.
  • the residual wall thickness remaining below the score line is larger, ie less weakened, than the adjacent areas of the score line.
  • the usual test guarantee for beverage cans is at 6.2 bar (90 psi or 620 kPa) as a minimum.
  • This, initially limiting the opening or blocking (short: blocking) score line can also be used in other containers, such as low pressure containers. Used for tennis ball cans, it also provides clearance barriers in the pressure range from 1.5 bar (150 kPa) to 2.5 bar (250 kPa).
  • the previous system has proven itself in practice, but is subject in manufacturing various critical problem areas that require a high control effort. Due to the increased residual wall thickness in the blocking region, increased wear of the embossing scoring knife comb has disadvantages for the accuracy of the control of the further ripping process. This may result in the further tearing of the opening area after the temporary blockage of the separation process is not (more) follows the score line exactly. Another problem is that in the restricted area uncontrollable or too high tearing forces are necessary, which can lead to excessive residual wall thickness to the fact that the opening process can not be continued and completed. On the other hand, if the residual wall thickness is too small, the protective effect can be omitted since the temporary blocking of the opening process does not occur or does not occur with sufficient safety. Especially with an arrangement of the scribe line so that it tapers to a point and two Aufplatzsperren are required, both sides of a rounded tip, emanating from the two score line segments, the previous concept has not been successful.
  • the residual wall thickness substantially equals and does not significantly differ from the residual wall thickness in the adjoining, and in particular the remaining, portion of the score line.
  • the temporary blocking of the tearing operation is achieved by deviating, in the selected, ie predetermined and limited area of the score line, the metal structure in the region of the residual wall substantially from the structure in the adjacent regions of the score line.
  • this metal structure is changed in a compacting manner.
  • the compression is a relief of impressed tensile stresses.
  • the metal sheet is weakened and tensile stresses are programmed, as it were, by inserting the score line below the score line, due to the lateral displacement of the material, thus favoring bursting, in the short area leading to temporary obstruction the time of pressure equalization is used, the programmed tension lowered, until fully compensated.
  • This compensation provides for a reduction in shear, thus strengthening the already about 20% lower shear strength of the metal compared to its tensile strength.
  • the result is a breaking away of the shear lines when opening from the tracking of the scribe line, if the temporary opening lock was too intense, so the residual wall needed too high a shear force to be separated. If, on the other hand, the residual wall is set too low, it can not unfold its temporary blocking effect, but immediately breaks completely upon pulsed pressure escape.
  • this microstructure temporarily stops the initial opening operation reliably at the predetermined point of the score line, so that the required and desired protective effect against the dangers indicated above is reliably achieved.
  • the notching tool or a corresponding scoring knife has a longer service life. The longer service life can also be favored in that the additional embossing tool with laterally impressed line pieces is located outside the actual score line.
  • the actual score line is reduced to rupture in width.
  • the width defining walls left and right of the indented notch with the bottom lying below change after the second engagement of the embossing tool.
  • Preferred values are a reduction to 30% to 70% of the original width, in particular at least 50% (claim 16). If a greater reduction is made by a stronger material displacement from the outside to the score line, and the score line reason completely disappear and stunt to an open-topped circular shape.
  • the walls are in each case made somewhat steeper and move closer to each other, wherein the change of the slope and the reduction of the width of the depth and the width of the stamping lines on both sides of the score line is dependent.
  • the tools used to produce the microstructure change effected according to the invention with a narrower kerf line section are substantially more stable and less prone to wear, such as a normal scribing knife (also embossing comb) which is uneven in its engagement height (or depth).
  • the structure change is effected by acting on the cover sheet from outside the score line forth.
  • the action on the cover sheet outside the score line can be made from any direction, ie from the side or from below, the effect is in any case directed so that the lid material or the microstructure is compressed below the opening for opening score line, especially at strong influence of the side of a relaxed in their tensile stresses microstructure is obtained.
  • a voltage-neutral zone is mechanically much more stable and achieves the same notch line depth along the entire starting portion of the opening serving score line and also beyond a temporary opening blockage or opening lock, which is able to compensate for the pulse-like escape of pressure caused by pressure difference from the environment.
  • the temporary lock can be overcome by the user of the grip tab in a continued opening process, so that the tear-open is exposed to the score line on the score line.
  • the temporary blockage is therefore not a permanent blockage when the user overcomes the mechanically solidified residual wall shortly after the beginning of the opening process by a mechanically increased force.
  • the deformation of the microstructure is very conceivable when two short score pieces are imprinted directly next to the score line that serves to open.
  • the area of the barrier has usually been that which was less solidified or had a looser structure, because here the residual wall had a greater strength and thus the incipient tearing process was temporarily interrupted.
  • this area is substantially the same in thickness as the train of score lines before and after this area. Nevertheless, however, comes through a lateral squeezing of material by impressing lateral embossing pieces a mechanical solidification, which achieves a controlled opening after impulsartigem escape of overpressure or impulsartigem compensation of the negative pressure (claim 11).
  • the score line according to the invention may have substantially uniform depth (claim 2).
  • the mentioned reduction of the tensile stresses below the score line can be done from one side or both sides of the opening score line (claim 3). If the temporary barrier should not be too strong mechanically, a very short length is recommended as one-sided or bilaterally displaced notched pieces, which, however, are located very close to the starting section, ie locally close to the initial break-in area of the score line.
  • the depth of the two short score lines next to the main score line can be controlled.
  • the depth By controlling the depth, the material compression under the main score line can be controlled in shape and tension relief.
  • the depth of the additional embossing line pieces can be between 0.17 mm and 0.08 mm, ie in particular have a greater depth, than the main score line for opening (claim 4).
  • a rounded profile at the bottom of the side crush (claim 5) has a preferential effect over a greater depth range in the direction of compaction of the whip lines or flow lines on the notch line lying under the notch area, narrowing the notch line with closer opposite walls occurs (claim 7, claim 16).
  • score line As far as the term “score line” has been used, the person skilled in the art also understands an embossing or scoring line or a weakening line introduced by other means, which allows a tear-open segment to be separated from the remaining cover mirror of the cover by shear forces for opening; such terms as tearing or tearing should be considered technically equivalent. Gearing is a densification of the poultry line of the metal.
  • FIG. 1a shows a tear-open lid 1 with a folded edge 2 on a lid mirror 3.
  • a tear-off region 4 is defined by a score line 8 which is opened by means of an annular grip tab 6 which is fastened to the tear-open region 4 by means of rivet 5 Container can be completely detached from the lid.
  • the handle tab 6 By tilting the handle tab 6 relative to the lid mirror, the score line in the region of the rivet 5 is initially brought to break.
  • the opening process can then be continued by tearing along the score line 8 until the tear region 4 is completely released.
  • FIG. 1b the tear-open region 4 is shown on an enlarged scale.
  • 5a the location for fixing the pull tab 6 is indicated.
  • a narrow area 7 which serves to provisionally stop the tearing after the initial breaking of the score line, so that without risk to the user pressure equalization can take place before pulling the handle tab 6 the opening process is continued.
  • FIG 2a shows the same situation with a metal cover of another genus.
  • the tear region 12 is shown.
  • the attachment point for the grip tab lies at 13a, ie outside the tear-open area.
  • a lever-grip tab 14 is raised up here as well. It tilts around its attachment point 13 and presses the tear-open area 12 into the interior of the container.
  • the tearing process begins near the attachment point 13a.
  • similar means 7a for provisionally stopping the initial tearing operation are arranged.
  • Figures 1 and 2 show conventional lids made of sheet metal with a "central panel” (cover mirror) 10.3 and a seam edge. 2
  • FIG. 3 shows the usual way of forming a block 7 or 7a for temporarily stopping the initial tearing operation.
  • the cover sheet is shown in the area of the score line 8 or 11.
  • 17 indicates the normal residual wall thickness d2 below the score line.
  • a larger residual wall thickness d3 is provided below the score line, as indicated at 18.
  • the metal structure 19 below the score line is pinched but otherwise not substantially altered.
  • the walls 16 of the score line 8,11 (often also called “score line” or “score line”) are inclined, as a result of imprinting with an embossing punch or scoring anvil.
  • the image shown schematically in FIG. 3 can be illustrated by means of a real section through a metal cover with a corresponding magnification, as shown in FIG.
  • FIG. 8 and FIG. 8a the trapezoidal score line is shown in section 7, 7a of FIGS. 1, 2, wherein the residual wall thickness shown is greater than the remaining wall thickness, which is not visible in FIGS. 8, 8a, which is reduced at the lower embossed remaining score line 8.
  • a drawn out flow line 19x in the metal structure 19 is below the score line. Also evident is the effect of the embossment in an area 19e farther below the score line, which reflects the image of the score line weakened.
  • the lower surface of the metal lid is flat and not changed in the area 7 with respect to the remaining lower surface.
  • the obliquely upward extending side walls 16 go directly into the transition points 16a, 16b in the surface of the lid mirror. Due to the imprint, the direct transitions are even slightly lowered compared to an imaginary flat plane on the lid mirror. Particularly in the enlargement of FIG.
  • this direct transition 16a, 16b can be clearly seen in the upper edge regions of the score line 8, the groove bottom 8g of the groove 8 corresponding to that of FIG.
  • the groove bottom 8g is narrower than the width b1 of the score line between the transition portions 16a, 16b, which is designated by b1 in FIG.

  • the score line 21 is continuously running consistently deep with a uniform notching tool. It also has the same residual wall thickness d2 in region 24 as in the adjoining, and in particular the entire remaining score line region.
  • the cover plate 35 in the metal structure 38 below the score line 21 is substantially changed in such a way that in this area a microstructure freed of tensile stress is present in relation to the metal structure in the adjacent residual wall areas.
  • This denser metallic structure provides a sufficient stopping effect for the tearing process during the initial opening, even at high pressure differences to be compensated, so that a change in the score line k2 is not required.
  • the denser texture is achieved not by a modified action of the scoring tool, but by the metal structure in its flow or guillotine lines being constrained by a limited length crushing or compression 27a, 27b and Q1, Q2, respectively, from one or both sides of the score line 21 is changed considerably.
