Es wird ein Verfahren zur Oxidation primärer Alkohole zu Aldehyden und/oder Carbonsäuren in Gegenwart eines auf Aluminiumoxiden oder Aluminiumsilikaten geträgerten Katalysators, enthaltend Palladium, Platin, Cobalt, Rhodium, Ruthenium, Iridium, Rhenium, gegebenenfalls mit Cokatalysatoren, bereitgestellt.
Description
Verfahren zur Herstellung von Aldehyden und Carbonsäuren durch Oxidation primärer Alkohole
Gegenstand der Erfindung ist ein Verfahren zur Oxidation von Alkoholen in
Gegenwart eines getragenen Katalysator enthaltend ein oder mehrere Edelmetalle und ein Element der Gruppe V des Periodensystems als Cokatalysator
Die Oxidation primärer Alkohole an Kupfer-ZKupferoxid-Kontakten durch Sauerstoff als Oxidationsmittel nach folgendem Reaktionsschema
RCH2OH + '/2 O2 → RCHO + H2O ist bekannt und wird in der Technik umfangreich benutzt Eine Vielzahl anderer Katalysatoren / Katalysatorsysteme ist ebenso bekannt Erwähnt werden sollen hier Silber- und Eisen-Molybdan-Mischoxide, die als Katalysatoren technische Bedeutung erlangt haben
Die Verwendung von Ruthenium getragert auf Al O3 zur Oxidation primärer Alkohole ist aus der US 4,996,007 bekannt Hier ist jedoch der gleichzeitige Einsatz von Sauerstoffaktivatoren, wie Naphtaquinone oder Anthraquinone, in Gegenwart von Losungsmitteln wie Dichlormethan erforderlich
In der US 5,274, 187 werden getragerte Katalysatoren enthaltend Platin, Palladium, Rhodium, Ruthenium, Gold, Silber und/oder Kupfer zur Oxidation von Polyhydroxyalkoholen eingesetzt Diese können in Gegenwart von Cokatalysatoren wie Zinn, Blei, Antimon, Bismuth, Selen und Tellur eingesetzt werden Als Trager sind Kohlenstoff, Silikate, Aluminiumoxid, Aluminiumsilikate, Zeolithe, Molekularsiebe und Asbest benannt Als Edukte werden ausschließlich solche Verbindungen eingesetzt, die zumindest zwei Hydroxy-Gruppen aufweisen müssen, wovon zumindest eine eine primäre Hydroxy-Gruppe und eine eine sekundäre Hydroxy-Gruppe ist
Die Oxidation primärer Alkohole (ohne eine weitere sekundäre Hydroxy-Gruppe) durch auf Aluminiumoxid oder Aluminiumsilikaten getragerte Palladium- oder Platin-Katalysatoren in Gegenwart vom Luftsauerstoff ohne Sauerstoffaktivatoren ist in der Fachwelt entweder nicht bekannt, oder solche Katalysatorsysteme sind als inaktiv beschrieben (Fat Sei Tech 15,(94), 1992)
Aufgabe der vorliegenden Erfindung ist es, ein hochspezifisches Katalysatorsystem bereitzustellen, das die Oxidation primärer, vorzugsweise langerkettiger Alkohole, die keine weiteren aktivierenden Gruppen enthalten müssen, durch Luftsauerstoff in flussiger Phase bei niedrigen Temperaturen und Drucken ermöglicht, und gleichzeitig die aus dem Stand der Technik bekannten Nachteile wie den Einsatz von hohen Temperaturen, Drucken, Sauerstoffaktivatoren, Alkali, Saure oder Losungsmitteln überwindet
Diese Aufgabe wurde überraschend durch ein Verfahren zur Oxidation von bei Reaktionstemperatur flussigen primären Alkoholen gelost, in welchem ein Katalysator enthaltend
(a) Palladium, Platin, Cobalt, Rhodium, Ruthenium Iridium, Rhenium und/oder Osmium, vorzugsweise Palladium, Platin, Cobalt und/oder Ruthenium, besonders bevorzugt Palladium und/oder Platin in Gegenwart eines Cokatalysators enthaltend
(b) Bismuth, Antimon, Arsen, und/oder Phosphor, vorzugsweise Bismuth und / oder Antimon, besonders bevorzugt Bismuth, getragen, auf
(c) Aluminiumoxiden und/oder Aluminiumsilikaten bei einer Reaktionstemperatur von 20°C bis 130°C in Abwesenheit von Losungsmitteln mit den primären Alkoholen in Kontakt gebracht wird
Die erfindungsgemaß eingesetzten Metalle können selbstverständlich auch in Form von Verbindungen, insbesondere in Form ihrer Oxide, vorliegen Die er- fmdungsgemaß eingesetzten Katalysatoren sind auch in Gegenwart von Wasser aktiv Vorteilhafterweise werden die erfindungsgemaß eingesetzten Katalysatoren vor Beginn der Oxidation ohne Sauerstoff in Gegenwart des Alkohols aktiviert
Weiterhin wird die Reaktion vorzugsweise kontinuierlich geführt und der primäre Alkohol mehrfach in Kontakt mit dem Katalysator gebracht Als Oxidationsmittel wird bevorzugt molekularer Sauerstoff eingesetzt, wobei aus Kostengrunden dieser als Gemisch in Form von Luftsauerstoff eingesetzt wird
Bevorzugte Edukte sind primäre Alkohole mit 4 bis 32, besonders bevorzugt 4 bis 16 Kohlenstoffatomen, wobei - wenn als primärer Alkohol ein Alkohol mit einer
Verzweigung in 2-Stellung eingesetzt wird - die Kohlenstoffzahl vorzugsweise 8 bis 32, besonders bevorzugt 8 bis 22, bzw 8 bis 24, betragt
Die Oxidationsreaktion wird vorteilhafterweise in einem Festbettreaktor geführt Raumgeschwindigkeit und Verweilzeit sind stark abhangig vom Reaktordesign, wobei im allgemeinen aber Raumgeschwindigkeiten von 0,5 bis 10 h"1 und Verweilzeiten von 1 bis 10 min eingestellt werden
Nach einer weiteren Ausgestaltung des Verfahrens wird der primäre Alkohol in einer ersten Reaktion bis zur Stufe des Aldehyds oxidiert, wobei man den Umsatz des primären Alkohols zum Aldehyd für jede Kontaktierung (Durchgang) vorzugsweise unter 40 % halt und weiterhin bevorzugt das Aldehyd durch eine Destillation ausschleust
/ auskreist
Der erfindungsgemaßen Oxidation zu den Aldehyden wird vorteilhafterweise eine Azeotrop-Destillation nachgeschaltet Neben dem bei der Reaktion anfallenden Wasser wird dem Gemisch für die Azeotrop-Destillation vorzugsweise weiteres
Wasser hinzugefugt Der Überschuß an Wasser verhindert gleichzeitig unerwünschte Abbau- oder Nebenreaktionen (die Abspaltung von Wasser, Acetalbildung und Veresterung sind Gleichgewichtsreaktionen) Weiterhin wird vorzugsweise wahrend der Azeotrop-Destillation angesäuert bzw in Gegenwart von sauren Ionenaustauschern destilliert
Viele Aldehyde bilden mit Wasser ein Azeotrop Z B bildet Hexanal mit Wasser ein Azeotrop, welches bei 91°C siedet Hexanol und Hexansaure bilden ebenso Azeotrope mit Wasser Dieses siedet bei 97,8 respektive bei 99,9°C Trotz der dicht beieinander liegenden Siedepunkte verlauft die Destillation erstaunlich problemlos.
Es können reine Fraktionen an Alkohol und Aldehyd aufgefangen werden
Durch die Zugabe von Wasser kann das sich wahrend der Destillation bildende Acetal komplett in die Ausgangsstoffe Aldehyd und Alkohol gespalten werden Im Sumpf verbleibt lediglich freie Hexansaure und Ester (im Falle der Hexanol-
Oxidation ca 70% / 30%) Diese lassen sich durch Destillation weiter trennen, wobei der Ester durch den Saurezusatz in Alkohol und Saure zerfallt
Ein mögliches Schema des Verfahrens am Beispiel der Hexanol-Oxidation kann der Figur 1/1 entnommen werden
Vorteilhaft ist es weiterhin die Reaktion so zu fuhren, daß die Oxidation der in der ersten Umsetzung erhaltenen Aldehyde zu den entsprechenden Carbonsauren in einem zweiten Reaktionsschritt ohne Katalysator unter dem Einfluß von Temperatur und molekularem Sauerstoff durchgeführt wird
Die Oxidation von Aldehyden zu Carbonsauren mit Luftsauerstoff und ohne Verwendung von Katalysatoren ist an sich bekannt Soll die Oxidation der Aldehyde ggf beschleunigt werden oder treten bei der Oxidation verstärkt Nebenreaktionen und / oder Abbaureaktionen auf, kann durch Anwendung von Druck oder Zusatz von Katalysatoren die Oxidation beschleunigt werden
Katalytisch wirksam sind u a Salze von Übergangsmetallen wie z B Cobalt, Mangan, Eisen, Nickel, Silber, Cer oder Vanadium Für Alkalisalze schwacher Sauren aber auch Bariumsalze der Metalle ist bekannt, daß diese die Selektivität verbessern
Versuchsbeispiel Oxidation von Hexanol
Bei einer Temperatur von 1 12°C wurden 2,4 1/h Hexanol (Raumgeschwindigkeit 4 7 h"1) und 210 1 Luft/h durch einen Rohrreaktor unter einem Gesamtdruck von 30 bar gepumpt Dieser enthielt 290 g eines Katalysators (5 % Pt/Bi auf Al2O3) Es wurde ein Reaktionsgemisch erhalten bestehend aus 7 % Hexanal, 3 % Cι8-Acetal und 90 % Hexanol
In einer anschließenden Azeotropdestillation wurde Aldehyd kontinuierlich entfernt und Hexanol der Reaktion wieder zugeführt
Insgesamt wurde auf diese Weise ein Umsatz von ca 99 % mit einer Selektivität zum Aldehyd von ebenfalls ca 99 % erhalten
Claims
Patentansprüche
1 Verfahren zur Oxidation von primären Alkoholen, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man primäre Alkohole im flussigen Zustand mit einem
Katalysator enthaltend
(a) Palladium, Platin, Cobalt, Rhodium, Ruthenium, Iridium, Rhenium und/oder Osmium und einem Cokatalysator enthaltend (b) Bismuth, Antimon, Arsen und/oder Phosphor und
(c) Aluminiumoxiden und/oder Aluminiumsilikaten als Trager bei einer Reaktionstemperatur von 20°C bis 120°C in Abwesenheit von Losungsmitteln in Kontakt bringt
2 Verfahren gemäß Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man primäre Alkohole im flussigen Zustand mit einem Katalysator enthaltend
(a) Palladium, Platin, Cobalt und/oder Ruthenium und einem Cokatalysator enthaltend (b) Bismuth und / oder Antimon und
(c) Aluminiumoxiden und/oder Aluminiumsilikaten als Trager in Kontakt bringt
3 Verfahren gemäß einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man die Umsetzung kontinuierlich fuhrt und den primären Alkohol mehrfach in Kontakt mit dem Katalysator bringt
4 Verfahren gemäß einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man den primären Alkohol in einer ersten Umsetzung nur bis zum Aldehyd oxidiert
5 Verfahren gemäß einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man den entstehenden Aldehyd durch eine Azeotrop- Destillation in Gegenwart von Wasser ausschleust bzw entfernt
6 Verfahren gemäß einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man den Aldehyd in einer weiteren Umsetzung in Gegenwart von molekularem Sauerstoff, vorzugsweise Luftsauerstoff, zur entsprechenden Carbonsaure oxidiert
7 Verfahren gemäß einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man als primäre Alkohole Alkohole mit 4 bis 32, vorzugsweise 4 bis 16, Kohlenstoffatomen einsetzt
8 Verfahren gemäß einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man als primäre Alkohole Alkohole mit 8 bis 32, vorzugsweise 8 bis 24, Kohlenstoffatomen und einer Verzweigung in 2-Stellung einsetzt
