Definitions
- the present invention relates to an improved method for install a covering against a support, floor, wall, ceiling, etc. made of wooden planks or slats, or other similar materials; it relates also to a new type of coating, floor in particular, obtained by implementation of this process.
- Document DE-A-21 23 206 describes a covering consisting of boards or wooden panels that are fixed against a surface, side by side, leaving a space between said surface and the underside of the covering.
- the spacing and fixing of the elements of the covering is obtained by means of a pair of elements distributed, one over the entire surface of the boards, the other against the surface to be covered.
- Such fastening elements use clip-on cones arranged against the entire surface to be covered and the underside of the coating.
- Such a fixing means which is intended to be used for carrying out interior floors cannot, in any case, allow to consider using it to make floors, wooden terraces outside taking into account that the main problem in such a case is that of the sustainability of constructed works which are subjected directly to bad weather and to the sun.
- wood is a bio-polymer, it is by definition bio-degradable, especially at the level of cellulosic and hemi-cellulosic compounds, since these compounds are in fact polysaccharides (sugar chemistry), so very few resistant over time, and highly wished by micro-organisms of the type boring.
- the fastening elements use cones clipsable arranged against the entire surface to be covered and the underside of the coating.
- the invention therefore relates to a method of placing against a support, in particular the floor, of a covering consisting of wooden elements in the form of a board, batten or panel, said method consisting in leveling the support to be covered, then in fixing against this support, side by side of said covering elements, leaving a space between them and the support, the spacing and fixing of each covering element being obtained by means of pairs of fixing elements distributed one along the length of the covering element, the others on the support, the two fixing elements of a pair are in the form of elementary blocks which extend transversely, one on the underside of the covering element, and the other on the support, the opposite faces of the fastening elements comprising complementary recessed zones ensuring the blocking of said fastening elements between them, said method being char erised in that the pairs of fasteners are distributed spaced from each other along the length of the covering member.
- said fixing blocks are generally parallelepipedic and have a base rectangular surmounted by a plurality of teeth spaced from each other, whose side faces advantageously have a slight taper, of the order from 3 to 5 °.
- the fixing is obtained by simple fitting of the teeth of the block fixed below the board between the teeth of the block fixed on the ground.
- each tooth provides a self-tightening assembly and direct fixing by friction, the positioning being obtained from very simple way using a hammer blow on the board.
- the teeth are distributed in series over the length of each elementary block, openings being provided in the thickness of the base, in the areas located between two sets of teeth to allow screwing the blocks of connection on the one hand, on the underside of the board and on the other hand, on the ground or other structural elements (walls, ceilings).
- Another solution for blocking the fixing blocks between them and strengthening resistance to crushing consists of providing anchoring means to the end of one or more teeth which are able to snap against the underside of the block opposite the end of said teeth when the two blocks elementary are associated.
- the fixing blocks according to the invention will be produced from any suitable material, but will preferably be based on a polymer thermosetting resistant to water and thermal variations with little variation dimensional as well as aggressive cleaning agents that can be bonded without any particular constraint.
- polyamide polyethylene, or polypropylene.
- polypropylene polypropylene
- the apparent surface will feature raised patterns which, on the one hand, promotes the flow of water and on the other hand, makes the structure non-slippery. These relief patterns, made in the mass, eliminate the risks of water infiltration and therefore of degradation of the wood.
- the positive relief pattern is therefore machined with a rounded on its lower part, in connection base with the board, and of a convex shape on its upper part, to facilitate the flow of water.
- the pattern will be round, avoiding sharp angles generating concentrations of stresses, therefore risks of cracks.
- the invention will be described for a terrace or wooden floor, made from slats, designated by the general reference (1) having a width at the base of 67 mm and a thickness 25 mm, the length of each slat being one meter, the section of said boards as well as the dimensions of the fastening elements produced in accordance with the invention being shown substantially on scale 1 in Figures 2 to 6.
- the elementary planks (1) of the covering to are therefore fixed on the ground (S) which has been previously leveled using a set of fasteners, designated by the general reference (2), consisting of pairs of elements (3,4) in the form of blocks or shape blocks general parallelepiped, one (3) being fixed on the underside (5) of the board (1), the second (4) being fixed to the ground.
- a set of fasteners designated by the general reference (2), consisting of pairs of elements (3,4) in the form of blocks or shape blocks general parallelepiped, one (3) being fixed on the underside (5) of the board (1), the second (4) being fixed to the ground.
- the elementary connecting blocks (3,4) can either be of structure strictly identical or present special adaptations depending on whether they are intended to be fixed on the ground or against the inside face of the board.
- each set (3,4) has a base, designated by the same reference (6), rectangular in shape, but which could be round, this base being surmounted by complementary junction elements which, in the case present, are in the form of teeth, designated by the same reference (7), and which can be divided into groups along the blocks. These teeth are separated by empty spaces (8). In the example given, these teeth are divided into three groups as illustrated in Figures 4 to 7 attached, these teeth having a height of 9 mm and a thickness at their free end of 2 mm. The spacing between each tooth is also 2 mm.
- the lateral faces of said teeth have a slight taper, of the order of 3 °, such that when the two blocks (3,4) are fitted, we obtains self-tightening and direct fixing by friction.
- Fixing the block (3) against the reverse side of the board (1) and of the block (4) against the ground is obtained by any appropriate means, in particular by means of screws which pass through orifices (8) provided between the groups of teeth in the central part of the base.
- connecting blocks are preferably made by molding a material plastic, polyethylene or polypropylene for example.
- the final connection is made by simple interlocking using a hammer blow on the board.
- At least one of the teeth for example the extreme tooth (7a) has at its upper part a protuberance (18) in the form of a hook.
- the hook (18) snaps into place the interior of a recess (19) provided on the external face of the block.
- hooks in the middle part openings then being provided in the base of each block to allow the passage of said hooks.
- the placing of the slats next to each other can be done either edge to edge, but preferably, the slats will be spaced by a space (E), such that shown in Figure 2, of the order of 5 to 10 mm, which allows, when the floor is performed, improve ventilation and also facilitate scanning and cleaning.
- E space
- the field of boards (1) will preferably be profiled with a variable angle, but in general of around 10 to 15 °. This profile is preferably extended over the length section in cross section and the angle of the board is preferably broken by a chamfer or rounding (see Figure 3), to improve durability mechanical.
- the terminal blocks can be identical, it will however be advantageous to adapt the block (3) so that it has a structure as illustrated in FIGS. 4 to 7, providing in its base (6) a groove (9) allowing the installation of a seal (10) of elastomer for example, which plays acts as a water barrier and prevents it from seeping between the fixing and board.
- the floor of the upper surface (11) of each board will preferably include a relief pattern (12) made in the mass.
- a such a pattern (12) has a shape which can be variable as shown in the Figure 1, and preferably will not present a negative angle which could be the cause of removal of wood and therefore of cracks allowing water infiltration.
- the positive motive of relief (12) is machined with a rounded on its lower part, in connection base with the board, and of a convex shape on its upper face, facilitating the flow of water. This can apply to a basic pattern as well rectangular or round, a round pattern being preferable, because it allows the reduction of sharp angles generating stress concentrations, therefore risk of cracks.
- This pattern will of course have a diameter less than the width of the board and it is possible to have patterns of several diameters on the same board, and this from an aesthetic point of view. For reasons of durability, however, it may present a surface avoiding shearing, a surface which in general must not be less than 1000 mm2, i.e. a minimum diameter of 35 mm.
- each board (1) preferably incorporates in its profile a drop of water (15) as well as over its entire length a notch withdrawal (16), the angle of the board also being broken by a chamfer or rounded (17).
- the width of the board can be variable while trying to play however a role with regard to the stability and durability of the coating formed.
- wood dries in the sun and absorbs water when it rains. To these movements hygroscopic, are associated with dimensional variations, generating internal tensions in the board. Since the wood shrinkage coefficient is double in the tangential direction (axis of the cylindrical ring) relative to the radial shrinkage (perpendicular to the ring), the section of the board will tend to deform on drying, up to cracking. Therefore, to decrease these internal tensions, it is advisable to use widths of boards not exceeding not 10 to 14 cm. In all cases, the section of the board can be stabilized with a relief notch on the underside (16) (see Figure 3).
- the invention can be implemented for any type of wood but, for realizations of floors or terraces located outside, we will use wood species classics such as Ipe or Iroko. Other species may eventually be made, for example of beech after having subjected it to a treatment appropriate, including cross-linking treatment. If it can be considered to use any type of wood species, preferably, we will select the species depending on its shear properties, which improves durability embossed patterns (12) and, in addition, use less nervous essences allowing better dimensional stability which reduces internal stresses and therefore risk of cracking.
