Definitions
- the invention relates to a method and an apparatus for Applying a decor to an object, the decor, if necessary with a supporting film on the surface arranged in a liquid and there depending on need of the shape of the object parallel to the surface is expanded and / or compressed, and at least the object is partially submerged in the liquid to the decor to transfer to the object.
- US-A-4,348,246 describes a similar transfer printing technique in which the film with the decor to be transferred onto a Granulate layer is placed, which is so fine-grained that the Decor on the curved surface of the object to be printed adapted can be transferred.
- US-A-4,388,866 also describes a similar one Transfer printing, in which the film with the decor to be transferred is placed on a deformable layer of pins that are adaptable to the shape of the body to be printed.
- US-A-4,436,571 describes a transfer print of the beginning mentioned type, in which the object to be printed in certain Point into the liquid with the decor floating on it is immersed, namely in a continuous movement obliquely down towards the flow and then obliquely upwards, also in the direction of the flow of the liquid.
- US-A-4,229,239 describes the transfer printing technique mentioned at the beginning a special design in which the decor is prepared using a solvent before the transfer, so that it comes off the support film more easily.
- US-A-4,407,881 (corresponding to DE-A-32 19 992) describes for the transfer printing mentioned at the outset a special configuration of the support film, which is a hydrophilic, deformable layer has, which can swell by absorption of water, and another layer overlaid on the hydrophilic layer and which is permeable to water in different ways, so that the hydrophilic layer more or less expanded.
- US-A-4,269,650 also describes the addition of a solvent, to facilitate the detachment of the decor from the supporting film.
- a film that supports the decor applied to a surface of water and expanded there (stretched) and / or compressed (compressed).
- the invention has for its object the above Develop the method and the device so that a largely adjustable shaping of the film accordingly before transfer printing the object to be printed is also possible when the object has a complicated three-dimensional shape.
- the inventive method according to claim 1 provides that the expansion and / or compression of the decor on the liquid surface by means of facilities that are below create currents in the liquid on the liquid surface.
- the device according to the invention is distinguished accordingly through facilities below the liquid surface Generate currents in the liquid to match the decor the requirements of the object to be printed expand and / or compress, depending on an expansion of the shape of the objects in certain directions and compression in other directions can be provided.
- the nozzles can be preferred optionally set with regard to various parameters, in particular in terms of water pressure, flow rate, the flow rate (i.e. the total amount of water moved per unit of time) and especially the direction of flow, to provide complete control over the film shape and to also to enable the fastest possible transfer printing.
- the adjustable liquid flow Due to the adjustable liquid flow, the moves suitably designed film very quickly in the desired Direction and takes the desired shape, so that after that the printing object immersed in the liquid (water) can be on the film with decor or just the decor floats so that the transfer printing, i.e. the transfer of the Decorations on the item can be done.
- the technique described can be used both for expansion and / or use decors that are based on a corresponding designed film floating on the surface when also for decors that are directly (without a supporting film) on the liquid surface swim, provided the decor is adequate Has stability.
- the device provided with rollers near the surface of the liquid, their relative distance from the liquid surface adjustable is.
- the water surface can be immobilized become, i.e. in particular, waves and irregular (Unwanted) currents on the surface can be prevented.
- rollers are preferred, at least in part, with a rotary drive provided so that they can be rotated.
- the rollers are preferably adjustable in relation to the water surface and are typically just below the water surface or touch this straight.
- the feed speed can also be adjusted by means of the rollers of the film in terms of flow velocity the water surface can be adjusted. This makes possible in particular also an adjustment of the film feed speed different than the flow rate of the water surface.
- the film feed speed in with respect to the water speed if at certain such acceleration to objects to be printed of the film leads to good results. They also effect Rolling a fluidic separation of the basin into one downstream part where the diving process for transmission the decor is carried out on the object, and one upstream part where the film with the decor on the Water surface is placed.
- the object to be printed becomes relatively quick immersed, tearing of the film (and decor) can result be prevented that the rollers are rotated a little faster and so the film feed is accelerated.
- rollers are in Flow direction arranged one behind the other and independently of each other regarding their position in relation to the water surface and their rotation adjustable.
- the rollers are preferably provided with a smooth surface, for example made of stainless steel.
- rollers also allow control of the process in such a way that the film is used to the maximum. It only takes that much film to be used with decor, as for the desired printing of the item is required.
- the rollers also stabilize the film against unwanted interference.
- rollers not only in terms of their speed of rotation and vertical height (in relation to the water surface) adjustable, but also in the horizontal direction (i.e. parallel to the Water surface), both absolutely in relation to the Pelvis as well as relative to each other, i.e. in the latter If necessary, the distance between the rollers can be adjusted, depending on the various effects mentioned above to optimize the object to be printed.
- Another preferred embodiment of the invention provides that the liquid (e.g. water) is fed into the pool done through two rollers at the entrance to the pool (upstream) are arranged.
- This makes it particularly smooth (Homogeneous) flow, especially on the surface.
- the position with respect to the water surface is preferred and the speed of rotation of one or both rollers adjustable.
- the two rollers are at least approximately vertical arranged one above the other and leave a very narrow, horizontal Gap between them freely, which is at least almost exactly in Height of the water surface. So that the water supply are controlled and thus also the flow rate according to the requirements of the object to be printed.
- At least One of the rollers also serve to measure the level of the water to measure in order to match the computer controlling the process To transmit information.
- a known as such pressure can technology on the roller Acting water pressure can be measured, which is a measure of the height the water level is when the roller is in the vertical direction a certain amount is maintained.
- Another preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention provides that at the downstream end of the basin close to the surface of the liquid, two rollers in succession are arranged that film residues and / or decorative residues over both Rollers run, possibly to a filter, and relatively clean liquid through a gap between the rollers passes through below.
- Fig. 1 shows on the right a housing 10 in which a printed film is fed to a pool 12 via rollers.
- the chemical and physical structure of the film as such is not the subject of this invention and not the chemical and physical Structure of the decor applied to the film. So far can be referred to the prior art mentioned above.
- the housing 10 and the water basin 12 are on a common Foundation 14, which the entire system largely supported by external mechanical interference.
- the film printed with the decor on its upper side becomes via a film feed 16 in the form of an oblique Conveyor belt from the housing 10 to the surface of the water in the pool 12 out.
- the conveyor belt of the film feeder 16 runs over rollers 18, 20
- a pump 22 which has a water circuit maintained.
- a line 24 leads from the pump 22 into a cavity 30 in which the water runs along a dam wall 28 is pumped to a level above the surface of the water lies in the pool 12. From the water inlet 26 at the top of the Cavity 30 over the dam 28 so the water falls below, with the cavity 30 completely filled with water.
- Fig. 3 the flow path of the water is shown in more detail and it will also feed the water into that below Basin 12 described in more detail.
- lateral guide bands 32, 32a see also FIG. 2 the one placed over the film feeder 16 and provided with the decor Film 50 in the direction of flow (from right to in the figures left).
- the guide belts only arranged on the side 32, 32a run over rollers 34, 36, which are extend over the entire width of the device.
- the role 36 has in cooperation with one in the flow direction behind it arranged further roller 42, which is also over the entire Width of the device extends (see FIG. 2), an additional Function, namely the separation of film and decor residues of clean water in the cycle.
- the object to be printed is located approximately in area 40 (not shown in the figures) from above into the water in the Basin 12 submerged.
- Figures 2 and 3 show the device schematically from above and from the side. 3 illustrates details of the feed of water in the pool.
- the water in the cavity 30 rises the dam 28 and falls down into the pool 12 from there.
- An opening 64 is provided below the storage wall 28, through the excess water enter directly into the pool 12 can.
- Fig. 3 the path of the water over the damming wall 28 with a solid line 48 shown schematically. After that it will Water through a space between two rotating rollers 60, 62 fed into the pool.
- the two rollers 60, 62 are arranged vertically one above the other and in the direction of arrow P vertically adjustable.
- At least one of the rollers, in particular the lower roller has a rotary drive, preferably both rollers.

- Fig. 4 shows schematically the adjustability on the right the direction of flow by means of a nozzle 52, the axis of which 70, which defines the direction of flow, inclined to the water surface is adjustable.
- a pump 66 which pumps the water through the nozzles 52 drives, shown schematically, and are above the pump six arrows indicated, which symbolize the individual nozzles.
- the film with the decor largely has its own desired (stretched or condensed) shape is achieved and is conveyed downstream over several rollers 38.
- the rollers 38 are in its height so adjustable that it is approximately with its upper edge the water surface 56 are aligned.
- the rollers 38 serve on the one hand the calming of the water surface and the feed of the film. They are preferred with a smooth surface, for example made of stainless steel.
- the rollers preferred each have a rotary drive and are in terms of rotational speed and height adjustable. With the rollers 38, the surface of the water, especially downstream (left), kept calm and the feed of the film can also be stabilized.
- rollers 38 If necessary (depending on the object to be printed) can be done using the rollers 38 also face the feed speed of the film the flow rate of water faster or can be set more slowly. The former is especially then advisable if the object to be printed is very deep in the Basin must be immersed or if the object must be quickly immersed. An increase in the feed rate of the film relative to the flow velocity of the Water then prevents the film from tearing.
- rollers 38 are provided which are cylindrical and each independently in terms of vertical position, rotational speed and horizontal Distance are adjustable. With the rollers 38 it can Feeding the decorative film 50 controlled in the printing area 40 become.
