Definitions
- the invention relates to a measurement field group and a method for detecting Quality data in multi-color edition printing according to the generic terms of the independent Expectations.
- the Quality data acquisition for example of ink, ink layer thickness, register, sliding, Duplication values, area coverings and the like are used for monitoring and Control of coloring in multi-color printing.
- EP 0 196 431 B1 describes a method for achieving a uniform printing result on a multi-color offset printing press that works in an autotype. Color layer thicknesses or solid color densities and screen dot sizes or Area coverage line measured on measuring fields, for each printing ink in each Inking zone of the printing machine. Because of the densitometric The ink guide actuators on the press are automatically measured set. Since several measuring fields are also printed in each color setting zone of the machine this method is suitable for commercial offset printing, but not for newspaper offset printing, where the measuring fields are in contrast to commercial offset printing printed inside the type area and not after printing can be cut away. Newspaper publishers therefore only accept these measuring fields reluctant.
- color management With the progressive arrival of color management in the printing industry yourself another problem.
- the idea of color management is known to be that color templates in the digital prepress independent of output devices and Materials to be determined.
- the colors of a picture template are in one by the Commission Internationale de 1 'Eclairage (CIE) standardized colorimetric coordinate system, such as CIEXYZ, CIELAB or CIELUV.
- CIE Commission Internationale de 1 'Eclairage
- the invention has set itself the task of collecting quality data in Multi-color print run, preferably in offset printing and not only for Commercial offset but also to improve newspaper offset printing.
- the space required for the determination of quality data Measuring elements or measuring field groups compared to known solutions, and it it should be possible to keep the expenditure on measuring equipment low.
- This object is achieved by the formation of a measuring field group according to claim 1 and achieved by means of a method according to claim 13.
- the invention is based on a measurement field group that consists of several measurement fields is formed, which is used to obtain color values, color densities or Area coverings or a combination thereof are suitable. Suitable means the measuring fields are large enough to match the available ones To be able to measure measurement techniques to determine these values, i.e. the measuring fields must have color measuring areas of sufficient size.
- the measuring fields each have, in addition to their color measuring areas at least one color strip for determining the register and sliding and Duplication, whereby this at least one color strip per measuring field in the same Printing is printed together with the color measurement area of his measuring field, with respect to the dimensions of the color measuring area of his measuring field is narrow and in one specified, also small in relation to the dimensions of the color measuring surface lateral distance to the color measuring surface.
- each of the measuring fields according to the invention can thus in addition to a color value, the color density and / or the area coverage in the Color measurement area, by measuring the zone or area between the color measurement area and its lateral color stripe a shift and duplication value for the one in question Printing unit can be determined.
- the shift and duplication values can be determined become.
- the measuring fields each have at least two of these lateral ones Color strips for determining sliding and duplication in the circumferential and lateral directions on.
- the relative positions of the Measuring fields preferably the lateral color strips of the individual measuring fields, determined to each other. Because of the training of the individual according to the invention In this case, too, measuring fields do not have to include additional registration marks become. Because the zones between the color measurement areas and their lateral color stripes If the relevant measuring field is not printed, the Register values are determined on the measuring fields according to the invention.
- the measuring fields are preferably at least Single-color full-tone fields in the respective primary colors, generally cyan, magenta and yellow for 4-color printing, and / or corresponding single-color grids, in which the basic colors are printed with their nominal area coverage are. If both solid color densities and area coverings are to be determined, become single-color full-tone fields and single-color grids in the basic colors also printed.
- a solid tone field in black can also be used in each of the above combinations be provided.

- the use of a suitable measuring device provided that all, the quality of the Values influencing the printed product, namely the register values, sliding and Duplication values as well as color density, color acceptance and color balance values, color values, Area coverings and the like can be determined.
- a measuring field block according to the invention can advantageously also have lines in have at least two of the primary colors used for a print. If such lines are present, these lines are preferably used for the determination at least one value for a register deviation, i.e. to determine a Register values, and the color strips of the measuring fields are used for the acquisition of the Pushing and doubling used. Color strips can also be added to the lines used to determine a register deviation, so to speak Measurement signal amplification.
- the lines preferably run between two of the measuring fields of the Measuring field blocks. Very particularly preferably remains immediately on both sides along such a line, provided an exact register, an unprinted area. It However, the neighboring measuring fields, between which one The line for determining the register runs directly on such a line to connect. In these two versions, adjacent measuring fields are thus of the measuring field block separated by a line.
- the lines are used to determine the register runs across one or more measuring fields of the measuring field block, in particular if the measuring field block has too few measuring fields to be used for the Determination of all register values all lines between the measuring fields or to run directly to the side of the outer measuring fields of the block.
- each of the primary colors of the respective print Line for at least one direction in which a register deviation is determined should be provided.

- Image areas of the printed product can advantageously serve as measuring fields.
- the measurement fields are preferably recognized by image analysis.
- measuring fields are in the form of a compact measuring field block printed side by side so that their side facing each other Color strips with an exact register blunt directly or bluntly directly touch the lines or a predetermined narrow distance from each other or have to the lines.
- the image processing process preferably comprises a color separation, the Generation of a binary image and a feature-specific mathematical Algorithm for determining the shift and duplication values, register values and Color density values or / or area coverage.
- a diagnosis is preferably computer-aided posed.
- the diagnosis advantageously turns into measures for improvement the print quality recommended.
- the measures preferably include one Compensation of the printing characteristics, which are both material and printing unit and is machine specific.
- the diagnosis and the quality data obtained can be used to correct the Press setting calculated and the press with this Correction values can be controlled.
- a particularly preferred measuring device has a sensor, preferably one photoelectric sensor, with spectral or at least 3-range and two-dimensional spatial resolution.
- a CCD color camera is preferred used, which is mounted on a microscope.
- the measuring fields are arranged individually and in suitable measuring field blocks Subcombinations can also be printed on the image and distributed to those interested Still measure quality data using a single meter.
- the measuring device can be moved over the continuous printed product arranged. From the prepress stage, the traversing control of the measuring device becomes the Locations of the measuring fields or measuring field blocks to be probed.
- the measuring field shown in FIG. 1 comprises a color measuring surface F with lateral ones Color strips S.
- the color measuring surface F has the shape of a Square.
- the width and thus area exactly specified with ideal pressure is.
- the sliding and Duplication values of this pressure can be determined. It would be used to determine the Sliding and doubling in the circumferential and lateral directions are sufficient, two at an angle to provide color stripes S to each other. The other two color strips S then only amplify the measurement signal in an advantageous manner.
- the minimum size of the color measuring area F is determined by the grid width of the Printing process, i.e. the grid point size taking into account the available Camera resolution or the spatial resolution of the sensor and one sufficient meaningful statistics given.
- the color measuring area F which is square in the exemplary embodiment, can be straight within the plugged frame basically only rectangular and basically even be arbitrary, but predetermined in a defined manner.
- the Color strips S do not necessarily have to run parallel to the edge, the color-free ones Zones, however, must also, given ideal pressure, pass through their Boundaries can be defined.
- FIG. 2 Such a compact measuring field block is shown in FIG. 2. It consists in Embodiment of twelve measuring fields, which form a 3x4 checkerboard Measuring field block are summarized. The individual measuring fields are with A1 to D3 designated.

- the measuring fields B3, C2 and D1 the three primary colors are printed individually in full tone.
- Both remaining measuring fields C3, D2 and D3 are finally further Combination measuring fields, in each of which two of the primary colors with nominal Coverage levels are printed one above the other.
- the measuring fields A1 to D3 each have an extent of approximately 1.65 x 1.65 mm 2 and the compact measuring field block with twelve such measuring fields has an extent of 6.6 x 5 mm 2 .
- the miniaturized measuring fields designed in this way are also printed in selected image areas or, as shown, as a compact measuring field block on a printed product to be checked and then recorded inline, online or offline using a CCD color camera mounted on a microscope. The image could also be taken at one or more image points using a photoelectric sensor with spectral and two-dimensional spatial resolution.
- the captured images are digitized and then software evaluated directly using a feature-specific algorithm.
- the data can also separated into the individual colors and the resulting binary image with a corresponding characteristic-specific mathematical algorithm evaluated become. A combination of both methods is also possible.
- the color strips S of the measuring fields B3, C2, Dl and A1 are used determining the registration of cyan, magenta, yellow and black in circumferential and in the lateral direction. Starting from the cyan measuring field B3, the relative Positions of the measuring fields C2, D1 and A1 for magenta, yellow and black and thus any register deviations are determined. This will push and duplicate found that the unprinted zone Z between the Color measurement areas F and the color strip S is measured.
- the color measuring areas F of the same measuring fields B3, C2, D1, A1 are used for Determination of the solid color densities of the corresponding colors.
- the measuring fields C3, D3 and D2 in each of which two of the three basic colors in a grid tone are printed on top of each other and the measuring field B1, in which all three basic colors in Screen tones printed one above the other serve to determine the color values and the Color acceptance in two and three-color overprint.
- a preferred image processing comprises a photoelectric sensor with spectral and two-dimensional spatial resolution as well as image analysis hardware and software, which in principle can, however, also be formed by hard-wired hardware, and a digital computer, preferably a personal computer.
- the relevant ones are analyzed using image analysis Image locations of the compact measured value block selected and the recorded ones Signals, for example, by means of matrix operations in XYZ values and subsequently in LAB values and density values transformed.
- the separated signals into binary images and then using a feature-specific algorithm evaluated.
- the compact measuring field blocks six register values, four full-tone density values, four Dot gain values, three color acceptance values for the basic colors, four sliding and duplication values as well as four color locus vectors and four color distances of the secondary ones and tertiary chromatic colors, for a total of 29 measurement or characteristic values.
- Figures 3 and 4 show decision trees, which follow using the a quality diagnosis is made. Based on this Decision trees is also an optimization of color rendering in multicolor Edition printing possible. The decision trees shown can still can be refined by adding further quality data, such as the color values of the Basic colors, data on ink and water flow on the printing press, temperature of the color material, air temperature and humidity or image data of the printed Subjects to be included.
- further quality data such as the color values of the Basic colors, data on ink and water flow on the printing press, temperature of the color material, air temperature and humidity or image data of the printed Subjects to be included.
- color deviations caused by adjusting the color and / or the dampening solution guidance on the printing press can be corrected.
- the branches each represent random points based on the determined quality data, decided on which path to go on is preceded on the right.
- Fig. 4 When optimizing the color rendering over several Conditions (Fig. 4), there may be a color deviation due to a disturbance the dot gain and a trapping disturbance is caused. In this case both the rheology problem causing the color deviation and the Trapping fault are eliminated, i.e. it is a non-exclusive one Branch at random point.
- each path ends in the decision tree on the right a recommendation for action.
- the correction a color material-related rheology problem
- the correction of a trapping disorder the elimination of pushing or duplication
- a further differentiation of the recommendations for action is also possible. So can, for example, prompt you to fix sliding or duplicating also with an indication of possible causes, e.g. on the web tension, Paper properties or the properties of rubber blankets.
- measuring fields according to the invention or compact measuring field blocks or a combination of these in combination with image analysis and decision tree it is possible to use the conventional ones based on densitometry and colorimetry Tools of optimizing color rendering with the new tools of the Unite color managements into a complete system.
- Quality data is very noisy, i.e. practically just random If there are deviations, a recommended action can no longer be unambiguous be derived. In this case, measurements are continued or additional ones are made Quality data used.
- An example is the situation in which over several editions of color fluctuations occur in the multicolored overprint, that are not reproducible. Further editions are then printed and measured.
- neural networks or algorithms of fuzzy logic (fuzzy logic) or a combination thereof can also be used to derive the diagnosis and recommendations for action.
- the neural networks in particular have the advantage that they can be trained using test patterns. If the correct recommendations for action are known for each set of quality data, such a network can be provided with the expert knowledge necessary to create a diagnosis, without having to set sharp target values or tolerances in advance for the characteristics. Such a procedure very much complies with the fact that numerical expert knowledge is more vague than in sharp form.
- the 5 shows two measurement field blocks with integrated lines L.
- the two measuring field blocks have two in a row in the circumferential direction of a printing cylinder or arranged side by side in the longitudinal direction of the printing cylinder Measuring fields A1 and A2. It may be the case with the two measuring fields A1 and A2 for example, by two single-color solid fields or two single-color grids act in two different basic colors.
- the measuring fields A1 and A2 are each in the type of measuring field according to Fig. 1, i.e. with a color measuring surface F and lateral Color stripes S formed.
- FIGS. 2 to 2.3 contain in addition to those of FIGS. 2 to 2.3 two groups of lines L.
- One group of lines L points in Circumferential direction and the other transverse to it in the longitudinal direction of the impression cylinder, i.e. in the lateral direction.
- two lines are provided for the circumferential register and the side register.
- the four lines L of the left measurement field block are already sufficient to determine register deviations in the circumferential and lateral directions.
- One of the two lines L running in the circumferential direction and one of the two lines L running in the lateral direction are printed in the reference color and the other line is printed in the further basic color to be coordinated.
- the register deviation, ie the register is determined from the measurement of the distance between the two lines L running in each case in the same direction, in general the area enclosed between these two lines L is measured.
- 5 has a third line L for determining register deviations in the circumferential direction.
- the measuring method can be used to adjust the measurements independently of the measuring device. The method "white” due to the two lines L in the reference color, ie because of the reference measurement, how much the measured values recorded for the further basic color deviate from the target value.
- a measuring field block with integrated Lines should be used to represent minimal configurations, in the sense that for Determine a register deviation of at least two lines L in for each Direction in which a register deviation is to be determined are included. It can be the only two primary colors in the case of two-color printing or any two basic colors, if more than just two in the print different basic colors can be used. In the latter case there would be several Measuring field blocks of the type shown in FIG. 5 are required in order to Register deviations for all primary colors used using integrated lines L to be able to determine.
- FIG. 6 shows an expansion of the measuring field blocks shown in FIG. 5.
- the 6 can already have all register values in four-color printing Lateral direction can be determined if of the lines L drawn in in FIG Page direction in each of the four primary colors, including black, at least one Line L is provided.
- the measuring field block according to FIG. 6 is a measuring field block for one Two-color printing are two of the five measuring fields shown as single-color solid fields, two more as single-color grids, in particular halftone fields, and the fifth field as a suitable combination measuring field executed. 6 would therefore already be in two-color printing all register values of interest and an abundance of densitometric and deliver colorimetric values with a single touch. Furthermore, in this If at least two lines L are printed in the reference color in both directions.
- FIG. 8 shows a measuring field block with integrated lines L, the measuring fields A1 to D3 have the same color assignment as that of the measuring field block according to FIG. 2.
- At least one line L for each of the printing inks is integrated in the measuring field block each of the two directions in which the register deviations are determined should; the lines L preferably run centrally between the respectively adjacent ones Stripes.
- the arrangement shown can of a 3 x 4 measuring field block in the measuring field block space-saving five lines L and in the In the other direction, four lines L may be provided, so that two of them are in one of the two Direction lines L can be printed in the reference color. Additional lines could, for example, between adjacent lines L be provided. Such an additional line L is indicated by dashed lines in FIG. 8.
- a measuring field block is shown in FIG the measuring fields A1 to D3, provided that the register is exact, directly next to each other bump.
- the lines L run across the measuring fields A1 to D3.
- the 9, like the block according to FIG. 7, is special on the one hand compact, which contain measured value signals for determining the register deviations however, comparatively high levels of noise caused by corresponding Evaluation methods are to be filtered out.
- the lines L preferably serve the Determination of the register values and the lateral color stripes S preferably for Determination of shift and / or duplication values.
- the distance b between two adjacent measuring fields is ideally approximately 0.5 mm with approximately 0.1 mm wide lines L, i.e. the distance between the lines L and the neighboring measuring fields is then approximately 0.2 mm.
- the distance b should not be more than about 1 mm and should be as noise-free as possible To be able to receive measurement signals is also not less than about 0.1 mm.
- a should be between 0 and maximum in the measuring blocks There are 400 microns to keep the area of the block small.
- a between that Side edge of the measuring surface F and the adjacent strip S formed Distance is advantageously not more than 0.3 mm and is in the Embodiments about 0.1 mm, so that on the one hand the measuring field is small Has dimensions, but still pushing and / or duplicating in full extent can be determined.
- both the measurement fields and the Lines L each have a grid, its rows and columns or its lines in the circumferential direction and point in the lateral direction.
- the two grids are included superimposed.
- the lines L in the circumferential direction and also in Lateral direction parallel and equally spaced from each other.
- Other Arrangements of the lines L are possible in principle, the exact alignment in Circumferential and lateral direction and also the parallelism as well as equality of distances however preferred. In concrete use, however, any of these Individual characteristics can be deviated.
