Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a device for trimming flat products, in particular multi-sheet printed products, such as e.g. Newspapers, magazines and brochures, on at least two margins according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • the multi-leaf, folded printed products to be trimmed on three sides are fed to the first processing drum, the axis of rotation of which runs in the horizontal direction and in which the printed products are applied two side edges parallel to each other, which are perpendicular to the fold edge, are trimmed.
  • the printed products trimmed on both sides then fall by gravity into the compartments of the second processing drum, which is arranged with its axis of rotation running vertically below the first processing drum.
  • the printed products are trimmed on a third side edge, which runs parallel to the fold edge.
  • the compartments of the second processing drum are open on both ends of the drum.
  • the printed products are introduced into the compartments of this second processing drum on the end of the second drum facing the first processing drum, while trimming is carried out on the other end of this second processing drum with the aid of a stationary knife element arranged on this end.
  • the two processing drums must be arranged in a very specific way to one another so that the transfer of the printed products from the compartments of the one processing drum to the compartments of the second processing drum can take place correctly in free fall.
  • difficulties arise when transferring the printed products from the first to the second processing drum.
  • the latter differs from the above-mentioned device according to EP-A-0 367 715 only in that the second processing drum with a vertical axis of rotation precedes the first processing drum with a horizontal axis of rotation.
  • the side edge parallel to the folded edge of the printed products is first trimmed and the printed products are then transferred in free fall to the first processing drum arranged below, with a horizontal axis, in which the printed products are passed to the two side edges perpendicular to the fold edge are trimmed.
  • the present invention is based on the object of creating a device of the type mentioned, which gives freedom in the mutual arrangement of the two processing drums and which allows trouble-free insertion of the printed products into the two processing drums.
  • the printing products can be reliably introduced into the portions of this second processing drum.
  • the interposition of a transport arrangement between the two processing drums, which transfers the printed products trimmed in one processing drum to the portions of the other processing drum, enables a freer mutual arrangement of the two processing drums.
  • the first embodiment shown in FIG. 1 of a device for trimming multi-leaf, folded printed products P on three side edges has a first processing drum 1 and a second processing drum 2 connected downstream thereof. Both drums 1, 2 are arranged so that their axes of rotation 1a and 2a coinciding with the longitudinal axis run in the horizontal direction.
  • the first processing drum 1 there is the so-called head and foot cut, ie the cutting along the side edges running at right angles to the folded edge of the printed products.
  • the so-called pre-cut takes place in the second processing drum 2, that is to say the trimming on that side edge which runs parallel to the folded edge of the printed products.
  • the construction and operation of the first processing drum 1 corresponds to that of the processing drum for the head and foot cuts, which is described in detail in the already mentioned EP-A-0 602 593.
  • EP-A-0 602 593 For a more detailed description of this processing drum 1, reference is therefore made to this EP-A-0 602 593.
  • the processing drum 1 has a number of radially extending receiving compartments 3 which are separated from one another by compartment walls 4. In each compartment 3 there is a clamping arrangement, not shown, which presses the printed products P against a compartment wall 4 during the cutting process, so that the printed products P are retained.
  • the receiving compartments 3 are open on the circumference 5 and on the two end faces 6 and 7 of the processing drum 1.
  • the processing drum 1 is driven by a drive 8, only partially shown, in the direction of arrow B, which has two toothed pinions 9, 10, each of which meshes with a ring gear arranged on the circumference of the processing drum 1.
  • the second processing drum 2 also has a number of radial receiving compartments 15 which are separated from one another by compartment walls 16. In each compartment 15 there is a clamping arrangement, not shown, which will be referred to later in connection with other figures.
  • the receiving compartments 15 are open on the periphery 17 of the processing drum 2, but can also be open on the end faces of the drum 2.
  • the processing drum 2 is driven in the direction of arrow C by means of a drive 18 which is only partially shown. Similar to the processing drum 1, this drive 18 has toothed pinions 19 which mesh with toothed rings on the circumference of the processing drum 2.
  • the two drives 8 and 18 for the two drums 1 and 2 can have a common drive motor.
  • processing drum 2 not in the circumference as shown, but in the center, i.e. to drive on a shaft defining the axis of rotation 2a.
  • the stationary knife element 20 or 21 located in the operating position interacts with knife elements which are arranged in the individual compartments 15. The cutting process taking place on the circumference 17 of the processing drum 2 will be discussed in more detail with reference to FIGS. 4-8.
  • the printed products P to be trimmed are fed to the parts 3 of the processing drum 1 by means of a feed conveyor 22, the conveying direction of which is denoted by D.
  • This feed conveyor 22 is known per se and has a rotating drive element 23, to which controllable grippers 24 are fastened at regular intervals. These grippers 24 hold the printed products P.
  • the printed products P are fed with their folded edge 25 in advance in the form of scales.
  • the two side edges of the printed products P, which are trimmed in the processing drum 1, are designated by 26 and 27.
  • the side edge parallel to the folding edge 25, on which the printed products P are held by the grippers 24, is designated by 28.
  • the feed conveyor 22 is guided in such a way that a printed product P with its folded edge 25 is introduced into a portion 3 of the processing drum 1 in each case.
  • a conveyor arrangement 29 is provided with a conveying direction E, which is also of a known type.
  • the conveyor arrangement 29 also has a rotating drive element 30, to which grippers 31 are fastened at regular intervals.
  • the conveyor arrangement 29 is driven by a drive 32 which has drive pinions 33 which mesh with the toothed rings already mentioned on the circumference of the first processing drum 1. The conveyor arrangement 29 is thus driven by the first processing drum 1.
  • the printed products P trimmed in the first processing drum 1 on the two side edges 26, 27 are gripped by the grippers 31 of the conveyor arrangement 29 Side edge 28 detected and conveyed to the second processing drum 2.
  • the conveyor arrangement 29 is designed in such a way that the printed products P are each introduced individually into the receiving compartments 15 of the second processing drum 2 with the folded edge 25 ahead.
  • a conveyor 34 with the conveying direction F.
  • This conveyor 34 is constructed similarly to the conveyor arrangement 29 and also has grippers attached to a rotating traction element.
  • the conveyor 34 is driven by a drive 35 which has drive pinions 36 which mesh with the aforementioned toothed rings on the circumference of the processing drum 2. The conveyor 34 is thus driven by the second processing drum 2.
  • FIG. 2 shows a side view and FIG. 3 a top view of a second embodiment of a device according to the invention, which differs from the embodiment according to FIG. 1 in that the order of the two processing drums 1 and 2 is reversed.
  • the processing drum 2 is connected upstream of the processing drum 1. Otherwise, the two processing drums 1 and 2 have the same structure as described with reference to FIG. 1.
  • the conveyor arrangement 29 and the removal conveyor 34 are also guided somewhat differently than in the embodiment according to FIG. 1, ie the removal is shown in FIG. 2 of the printed products from the processing drums 1 and 2 slightly different from that shown in FIG. 1.
  • the two processing drums 1 and 2 are rotatably supported in a frame 37 supported on the floor about their axes 1a and 2a in the direction of arrows B and C and are driven by a common drive unit 38 as described with reference to FIG. 1.
  • the feed conveyor 22 is driven from the processing drum 2 via a drive 39, which is only shown schematically.
  • the printed products P to be trimmed are fed to the feed conveyor 22 through a feed 40 in the conveying direction G, which is also of a known type and also has individually controllable grippers fastened to a rotating drive element at regular intervals.
  • this feed 40 can also be used to take the finished trimmed printed products P from the conveyor 34 and to convey them on. When the printed products P are taken over from the conveyor 34 to the feed 40, faulty or damaged printed products P can be eliminated.
  • FIG. 4 which shows a section through the processing drum 2 along the line IV-IV in FIG. 2, shows the construction of the processing drum 2 and the arrangement of a stationary cutting knife 20.
  • the processing drum 2 has two bearing parts 41, 42 on the end face, to which wall parts 16a and 16b are fastened, which part walls 16 form between the individual receiving compartments 15.
  • a bottom part 43 which can be adjusted in the direction of arrow H in order to be able to adjust to different format sizes of the printed products P.

  • the bottom parts 43 are set in such a way that the part 45 of the printed products P to be cut away on the side edge 28 projects beyond this cutting edge 44a of the knife elements 44.
  • the rotating knife elements 44 interact with a stationary knife element 20 which is mounted on a stationary holder 47 so as to be pivotable about the pivot axis designated by 46.
  • the knife element 20 can be pivoted in a manner to be described in the direction of arrow I from the circumference of the processing drum 2 into the inoperative position, which is shown in broken lines in FIG. 4.
  • the knife elements 44 form part of the portion walls 16 to which the printed products P to be trimmed are pressed by means of controlled clamping arrangements 48.
  • the knife elements 44 are fixed in such a way that their cutting edge 44a moves along a cylindrical circumferential surface on the circumference 17 of the processing drum 2 when the processing drum 2 rotates in the direction of the arrow C.
  • the stationary knife element 20 is fixed with its cutting edge 20 ′ against the tapering knife elements 44 on the holder 47.
  • the knife element 20, as shown in FIG. 7, is inclined by the angle ⁇ relative to the direction of movement of the processing drum 2, in order to cut away the part 45 of the printed products P to be cut away together with the rotating knife elements 44 in the manner of a pair of scissors.
  • the stationary knife element 20 Since the cutting edge 20 'of the stationary knife element 20 must lie very close to the circumference 17 of the processing drum 2, it is necessary for the knife element 20 to be curved on its side 20a facing the processing drum 2, the radius of this curvature being approximately the radius of the processing drum 2 should correspond. This means that the stationary knife element 20 on the side 20a of a processing, e.g. by means of a grinding tool.

  • the cutter bar 49 On its side opposite the pivot axis 46, the cutter bar 49 carries an eccentrically mounted roller 50, which in the present case is formed by a ball bearing.
  • the roller 50 is pressed against a running surface 51 which is formed on a control link 52.
  • this control link 52 serves to control the movement of the cutter bars 44.
  • These cutter bars 44 are mounted so as to be displaceable in the radial direction and are connected to a control roller 53 which, when the processing drum 2 rotates in the direction of arrow C, on the control cam 52 accumulates.
  • a second control cam designated 52a, can be provided.
  • the cutting edge 20 'of the stationary knife element 20 is inclined by the angle ⁇ relative to the direction of movement C of the rotating knife elements 44 and their cutting edges 44a. 7 shows that this arrangement of the knife element 20 achieves a cutting process which corresponds to that with scissors. This means that the trimming of the side edge 28 begins at the side edge 26 and then proceeds to the opposite side edge 27.
  • FIG. 8 which shows an area of the processing drum 2 with the stationary knife element 20 in an axial section
  • This knife bearing is very similar to that which is described and shown in EP-A-0 602 593 already mentioned, in particular in its FIGS. 4B, 5-9.

  • the processing drum 2 partially shown in FIG. 8 has bearing rings 56, 57 arranged on the end face, which correspond to the bearing parts 41, 42 according to FIG. 4.
  • the bearing ring 56 has a toothed ring 58 on its circumference, which is in engagement with the drive pinion 19 (FIG. 1) of the drive 18 for the processing drum 2.
  • each receiving compartment 15 has a bottom part 43 which can be adjusted in the direction of arrow H to adapt to the format of the printed product P to be trimmed.
  • there is a clamping arrangement 48 which has a clamping strip 59 which runs parallel to the knife element 44 which is fastened to the two bearing rings 56, 57.
  • This roller 50 is mounted eccentrically, that is adjustable on the cutter bar 49.
  • This knife bar 49 carries the knife element 20 and is pivotally mounted about the axis 46 in a knife bearing 60 which is fastened to the holder 47.
  • an actuating mechanism 61 By means of an actuating mechanism 61, the cutter bar 49 together with the cutter element 20 can be pivoted from the active or cutting position shown in FIG. 8 in the direction of the arrow I into an inoperative position.
  • This actuating mechanism 61 has a cylinder-piston unit 62, the piston rod 62a of which is connected to a toggle lever arrangement 63, to which a compression spring 64 belongs.
  • This toggle lever arrangement 63 is connected to the cutter bar 49.
  • this spring 64 By means of this spring 64, the cutter bar 49 with the roller 50 is pressed against the raceway 51 and thus positioned.
  • a system 65 for sucking off the cut strips of material is assigned to the knife element 20.
  • This suction system 65 has a suction channel 66 which is connected to a mouthpiece, not shown in FIG. 8, which is open towards the cutting gap between the stationary knife element 20 and the knife element 44 passing by.
  • the processing drum 1 instead of cutting the printed products P on both side edges 26 and 27 in the processing drum 1 as shown, it is also possible to make a cut on only one side edge 26 or 27. It goes without saying that other types of products can also be cut in the described devices, e.g. also stapled products that can be folded or unfolded.
  • the printed products P can also be introduced into the processing drums 1, 2 in a position other than that shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, in particular in a position rotated by 90 ° with respect to the position shown in FIGS. 1 and 2.
  • the devices described have the advantage that the processing drums 1, 2 can be set up separately from one another, ie their mutual position is not already predetermined is because a conveying arrangement is provided for the transfer of the printed products cut in one processing drum to the other processing drum, the course of which can be freely selected within wide limits. Since both processing drums 1, 2 are arranged with a horizontal axis of rotation 1a and 2a, the printing products P can be introduced into the receiving compartments 3 and 15 of the processing drums 1, 2 in the upper region of the drum in an approximately radial direction. This allows the printed products P to be inserted into the receiving compartments 3, 15 in a controlled and flawless manner.
