Definitions
- the invention relates to a device according to the preamble of claim 1.
- the liquid to be applied can be, for example, a glue suspension with which the paper web is impregnated; i.e. the glue suspension penetrates more or less completely into the interior of the paper web.
- the liquid can also be a coating slip; This means a wide variety of pigment suspensions from which a cover layer is formed on the paper web. In both cases, the liquid can be applied to only one side of the paper web or to both sides of the paper web.
- the invention is based on document 1, in particular on its figure 2.
- Two applicator rollers are provided which form a nip with one another through which a paper web runs.
- a nozzle applicator is assigned to each of the application rollers, each applying a coating color film to the surface of the roller concerned.
- the nozzle applicator has a nozzle with two nozzle lips, one of which carries a roller doctor blade at its free end, which is a rod with a grooved outer surface. A metered application of coating color to the outer surface of the roller in question is thus possible.
- cleaning device to clean the outer surface of the roller.
- This cleaning device is located between the point at which the coating color film is passed from the outer surface of the roller to the paper web (delivery position) and the position at which the nozzle application unit applies the coating color film to the outer surface of the roller (feeding position).
- Such cleaning devices are necessary for various reasons: on the one hand coating paint particles stick to the outer surface of the roller, and on the other hand fibers that are torn out of the paper web as it runs off the outer surface. These deposits represent a stubborn coating that accumulates with each revolution of the roller and leads to non-uniformities in the coating color film and to faults. Therefore it must be reliably removed.
- the cleaning device comprises a scraper with a scraper blade, which in operation is positioned against the outer surface of the roller, and also a source of liquid.
- the liquid source has two functions: On the one hand, it serves to spray cleaning liquid onto the outer surface, thus detaching the deposits or at least preparing to detach them. On the other hand, it must be ensured at all times that neither the doctor blade, the downstream doctor blade of the application nozzle is still running dry. These two elements must therefore be lubricated at all times. If this is not the case, the sensitive surface of the roller is damaged by the doctor blade or by the metering doctor.
- the liquid source already before the start of the coating operation i.e. before loading the nozzle chamber with coating color and thus before applying a coating film on the outer surface of the roller, must release plenty of liquid in order to lubricate both the doctor blade and the doctor blade.
- the liquid source is generally a spray tube which extends over the outer surface of the roller. The liquid is thus applied to the outer surface in excess before the coating operation begins, remains attached to it and passes through the gap between the doctor blade and the outer surface. Then part of this adhering liquid still travels with the outer surface and reaches the doctor blade in order to lubricate it as well. Another part gets into the coating color channel, which is arranged in front of the nozzle applicator to absorb excess coating color.
- the metering knife is lubricated by the coating color and therefore no longer requires any special lubricant. Now all you have to do is ensure that the scraper blade receives enough lubricant (generally water). From this point on, the liquid source therefore needs to dispense less liquid. However, throttling the amount of liquid is also necessary, since otherwise there is an undesirable thinning and thus impairment of the coating film.
- Time of the start of the coating operation ie the application of a coating color film to the outer surface of the roller
- Timing of throttling of fluid intake Extent of throttling.
- the invention has for its object to design a device according to the preamble of claim 1 such that the outer surface of the roller is cleaned perfectly, that the doctor blade and the doctor blade never run dry, and that a perfect coating color film of the desired strength and quality is placed on the applicator roll and is finally delivered to the fibrous web.
- the features (e) and (f) ensure that the happenings in the area of the doctor blade come under control.
- the width of the gap between the doctor blade and the lateral surface of the roller can be adjusted by means of a corresponding actuating device.
- the amount of liquid that is dragged through the gap from the lateral surface of the roller can thus be precisely defined.
- the features (g) and (h) ensure that the path of the liquid comes under control. All features help to prevent the scraper blade and metering knife from running dry and that there is no undesirable dilution of the excess of coating color in the coating color channel. For the coating color surplus there is still the coating color channel, but now there is also a special channel that takes up the cleaning liquid separately. The liquid in the coating color channel can thus be fed unchanged to the nozzle chamber for reuse.
- the application device shown in FIG. 1 has two application rollers 10, 20, two nozzle application units 31, 41, two nozzle chambers 32, 42, one machine-wide nozzle lip 13, 23 each, one metering doctor 8, 8 and one coating ink channel 39, 49.
- the two Application rollers 10, 20 rotate in the direction of arrows P.
- a paper web 9 is passed through the nip formed between the two rollers.
- the two nozzle chambers 32, 42 receive a coating color stream from pumps, not shown. A part of this stream reaches the nozzle and thus to its outlet, where it is metered by the metering doctor 8 in question and deposited as a film on the lateral surface of the roller 10, 20 in question. A smaller part passes over to the other nozzle lip as excess flow and arrives in the collecting channel 39, 49 in question.
- the film mentioned is delivered to the paper web 9 in the area of the gap between the two rollers, so that this is provided with a line on both sides.
- Figure 2 is also shown in principle as Figure 1, namely in a section perpendicular to the axis of the applicator roller 30.
- the roller 30 is shown much larger in scale than the rollers 10, 20.
- a roller applicator 51 is assigned to the roller 30. This comprises a nozzle chamber 52 and a nozzle 53.
- the nozzle 53 has two lips 53.1 and 53.2 parallel to the axis of the application roller 30.
- One lip 53.1 carries a so-called doctor blade 58. This is mounted in a doctor blade bed.
- the other nozzle lip 53.2 carries an overflow bar 60.
- a cleaning device is connected upstream of the nozzle applicator 51. This comprises a spray tube 70, a scraper 80 with a scraper blade 81 and a collecting channel 90 for collecting excess cleaning fluid.
- FIG. 3 again shows, on an enlarged scale, the roller 30 on which the coating color film is to be applied, the scraper 80 of the cleaning device, the associated scraper blade 81 and a pressing device 83.
- the pressing device can be pivoted about a pivot axis 84. It also has a blow-out hose 85, on which a strip 86 is formed, which extends over the entire width of the machine.
- the pressing of the scraper blade 81 can be brought about by two processes: firstly, the entire pressing device 83 can be pivoted about the hinge axis 84 in the direction of the arrow, and secondly the hose 85 can be inflated.
- the entire device is practically integrated into a single structural unit.
- the nozzle applicator 51 is firmly connected via its overflow bar 60 to the wall 59.1 of the overflow channel 59.
- the scraper 80 is also firmly connected to the wall 59.1.
- a solution would also be conceivable in which the mutually facing walls of the nozzle applicator 51 and the collecting channel 59, namely the walls 52.1 and 59.1, are combined to form a single wall.
- the doctor blade 58 does not necessarily have to be profiled. It can also have a non-profiled outer surface.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a device according to the preamble of claim 1.
Devices of this type can be located inside or outside a paper making machine. The invention is based on document 1, in particular on its figure 2. Two applicator rollers are provided which form a nip with one another through which a paper web runs. A nozzle applicator is assigned to each of the application rollers, each applying a coating color film to the surface of the roller concerned. The nozzle applicator has a nozzle with two nozzle lips, one of which carries a roller doctor blade at its free end, which is a rod with a grooved outer surface. A metered application of coating color to the outer surface of the roller in question is thus possible.
Although not shown in this illustration, in practice, however, there is always a cleaning device to clean the outer surface of the roller. This cleaning device is located between the point at which the coating color film is passed from the outer surface of the roller to the paper web (delivery position) and the position at which the nozzle application unit applies the coating color film to the outer surface of the roller (feeding position). Such cleaning devices are necessary for various reasons: on the one hand coating paint particles stick to the outer surface of the roller, and on the other hand fibers that are torn out of the paper web as it runs off the outer surface. These deposits represent a stubborn coating that accumulates with each revolution of the roller and leads to non-uniformities in the coating color film and to faults. Therefore it must be reliably removed. The cleaning device comprises a scraper with a scraper blade, which in operation is positioned against the outer surface of the roller, and also a source of liquid. The liquid source has two functions: On the one hand, it serves to spray cleaning liquid onto the outer surface, thus detaching the deposits or at least preparing to detach them.
This means that the liquid source already before the start of the coating operation, i.e. before loading the nozzle chamber with coating color and thus before applying a coating film on the outer surface of the roller, must release plenty of liquid in order to lubricate both the doctor blade and the doctor blade. The liquid source is generally a spray tube which extends over the outer surface of the roller.
If, on the other hand, the coating operation has started and the nozzle delivers a coating color film of the desired thickness to the outer surface of the roller, the metering knife is lubricated by the coating color and therefore no longer requires any special lubricant.
Zeitpunkt der Aufnahme des Streichbetriebes, d.h. des Aufgebens eines Streichfarbenfilms auf die Mantelfläche der Walze;
Zeitpunkt des Drosselns der Flüssigkeitszufuhr;
Ausmaß des Drosselns.This is where the problem begins. It is difficult to match the following parameters:
Time of the start of the coating operation, ie the application of a coating color film to the outer surface of the roller;
Timing of throttling of fluid intake;
Extent of throttling.
The invention has for its object to design a device according to the preamble of claim 1 such that the outer surface of the roller is cleaned perfectly, that the doctor blade and the doctor blade never run dry, and that a perfect coating color film of the desired strength and quality is placed on the applicator roll and is finally delivered to the fibrous web.
This object is solved by the characterizing features of claim 1. The individual features contribute to their solution as follows:
The features (e) and (f) ensure that the happenings in the area of the doctor blade come under control. The width of the gap between the doctor blade and the lateral surface of the roller can be adjusted by means of a corresponding actuating device. The amount of liquid that is dragged through the gap from the lateral surface of the roller can thus be precisely defined.
The features (g) and (h) ensure that the path of the liquid comes under control.
