Definitions
- the present invention relates to a floor covering for tennis courts, in particular for roofless outdoor courts, which is applied over a preferably frost-proof foundation layer and over a plan layer of broken material such as gravel or the like arranged thereon. Even if the floor covering according to the invention is particularly well suited for careless outdoor spaces, it can also easily be used in a hall or in roofed outdoor spaces.
- Tennis courts can be constructed differently with regard to the flooring that falls under the preamble of claim 1; are known Clay courts, hard courts and courts with textile flooring.
- Clay courts undoubtedly offer very good playing comfort and can be used indoors and outdoors, but are expensive to maintain and maintain. Hard courts can also be realized in halls and outdoors, but leave something to be desired in terms of playing comfort, since the ankles of the tennis player are put under a lot of stress; care and maintenance are only required with minimal effort. Textile tennis court surfaces combine the advantages of sand and hard courts to a large extent, ie they are pleasant for the player and require little care and maintenance; on the other hand, so far only tennis court floor coverings with a textile surface become known, which are particularly suitable for use in a covered hall.
- the textile surface covering must be applied to an elastic base layer, which is generally made of rubber, in order to be able to offer the players the expected playing comfort.
- this rubber support layer is impermeable to water, with the result that puddles form on the covering after a rain shower, which only disappear again through evaporation. This means that it takes a long time before such a floor covering can be used again after a rain shower.
- a coating has proven to be a tried and tested rubber support layer, which is preferably applied to a planie layer made of broken material such as gravel or the like and which consists of rubber granulate particles which are held together by a binder.
- the disadvantage here is that the granulate particles are enclosed in the binder, so that the rubber base layer becomes water-impermeable.
- the textile surface covering has previously usually been glued over the entire surface to the rubber granulate base layer.
- a synthetic floor covering for riding halls has a base made of limestone, a mat arranged thereon, consisting of an asphalt fabric, and an overlying base layer, which consists of a water-permeable rubber-like body consists.
- This base layer is covered with a mixture of loose, rubber-like granules.
- a floor covering constructed in this way is very well suited for riding halls, but it is not suitable as a floor covering for tennis courts, since the base layer has no actual surface structure. As a result, the granulate would quickly accumulate on the base layer at exposed locations, so that the tennis ball would jump off completely uncontrollably and, on the other hand, different loads, particularly on the joints, would act on the tennis player. In addition, such a floor covering would be too soft as a tennis court covering.
- an elastic, water-permeable floor covering plate which has a first layer made of rubber and a second layer made of fiber felt.
- the surface of this flooring slab is flat.
- a floor covering plate designed in this way is not suitable as a tennis court covering, since a flat surface is not suitable for receiving granules.
- a floor covering designed in this way would not dry out quickly enough after a rain shower.
- a surface made of rubber also does not have the sliding properties required for a tennis court surface.
- Bitumen can preferably be used as the readily available and inexpensive binder for the rubber granulate particles; a material that harmonises very well with the rubber of the granules in terms of its elastic properties.
- the rubber granulate particles are not connected to one another over the entire surface, but rather only at individual points, in order to ensure the unimpeded outflow of the water reaching thereon. Care should be taken to ensure that only part of the surface of the rubber granulate particles contains the binder, e.g. Bitumen, is applied.
- the binder e.g. Bitumen
- the flooring for tennis courts is e.g. constructed as follows:
- a foundation layer 2 is provided above a filter mat 1 and is preferably frost-proof. Below this foundation layer 2, a drainage 3 designed in a known manner is provided.
- the surface of the foundation layer 2 is provided with a plane layer 4 made of broken material, e.g. an approximately 3-5 cm thick layer of gravel.
- the plan layer 4 carries a base layer 5, which can have a thickness of about 5 cm and which consists of bound rubber granulate particles. Bitumen can preferably be used as the binder which holds the individual rubber granulate particles together.
- the individual rubber granulate particles 6 are not connected to one another over the full area and are also not cast in the bituminous binder, but are only connected to one another point by point. In any case, it is advantageous if less than half of the surface of the rubber granulate particles 6 are covered with binder. It is thereby achieved that the base layer 5 maintains the desired elastic properties, but is nevertheless completely water-permeable.
- the grain size of the rubber granulate particles 6 is between 0.5 and 15 mm, preferably between 1 and 7.0 mm.
- a textile floor covering 7 is applied to the surface of the base layer 5 and connected to the base layer 5 by gluing.
- the adhesive is not applied over the entire surface, but point by point, caterpillar-like, grid-like or meandering. Individual adhesive beads are designated by 8 in FIG. 1. This also ensures that the adhesive layer is permeable to water.
- the textile floor covering 7 can have a knob-like surface structure, with rubber granules 10 with a grain size of approximately 0.5-1.5 mm without fine particles being sprinkled into the spaces between the knobs 9. This measure further improves the playing comfort.
- the base layer 5 is simple and inexpensive to produce, since, for example, ground waste tires can be used as rubber granulate particles.
