Definitions

  • the invention relates to a method for the mechanical pressing of clamped, rounded book blocks by means of a pressing element acting on the back of the book block under a defined pressing force, and it also relates to a device for carrying out the method.
  • the rounded book block is given the desired back shape corresponding to the type of cover, which is determined by a fold provided in the area of the book block near the back, which can either be designed as a deep fold or as an oblique fold.
  • book rounding and pressing machines are used in industrial book production, in which the pressing process following the book spine rounding process is carried out by a shaped piece which moves back and forth across the entire back width, whereby the folded printed sheets are applied by the pressure and friction Middle of the book block spine after both Pages are turned over, and at an increasing angle to the outside. This gives the book block its mushroom-like back shape as well as its back stabilization.
  • a book-rounding and pressing machine with a reciprocating molding acting on the back of the book block is shown and described, for example, in DE-OS 15 36 507.
  • the traditional round shape of the spine has a multitude of radii.
  • shaped pieces adapted to the respective back radius must be used during the pressing process.
  • this fact requires long changeover times, in particular because the shaped pieces in the pressing station are difficult to access for removal and reinstallation.
  • a method for the mechanical pressing of clamped, rounded book blocks by means of two pressing elements acting on the book block spine under a defined pressing force, which after pressing is carried out are moved back to their starting position on a path away from the book block spine and a device for carrying out the method are in the document US-A-1959656.
  • the object of the invention is to provide a method of the type mentioned and a device for the mechanical pressing of book blocks, which enable a substantial increase in performance and quality improvement of the book blocks. Furthermore, the replacement of the fittings is to be avoided.
  • the method according to the invention provides that one half of the book block spine is pressed by two pressing elements simultaneously from the center of the From the opposite side of the book block, perform a rolling motion on the back of the book block to compress the printed sheets in the middle of the back of the book block and a tangential sliding friction movement on the back of the book block to fold the printed sheets in the side areas of the back of the book block will.
  • the pressing elements perform a tangential sliding friction movement and a superimposed rolling movement counter to the sliding friction movement, such that the sliding friction movement compensates in the area of the center of the book block spine and increases outwards in the side areas of the book block spine by progressively reducing the superimposed rolling movement .
  • the device for carrying out the method is characterized in that two parallel pressing bars in the supporting frame can be moved by means of linear guides oriented at right angles to these and the supporting frames can be pivoted in a radius by means of curved guides, the linear movement and the pivoting movement being matched to one another in such a way that the pressing bars are aligned in the radius to the outside and at the same time straight in the support frame move inside, and that the pressure bars can be brought from their operative position into a position away from the book block spine via an actuating device.
  • the working speed can be doubled by simultaneously pressing off both halves of the book block.
  • the press-off movement can be continuously adjusted to the different back shapes, so that the previous exchange of the press-off elements is no longer necessary, which significantly shortens the set-up time.
  • the so-called pressing of the book blocks 1 is carried out with two parallel pressure bars 2, each of which acts on one half of the back of a book block 1 under a defined pressing pressure, by making a tangential sliding friction movement from the center of the block in opposite directions for folding the printing sheets outwards lying areas of the book block spine and perform a tangential rolling movement opposite to the sliding friction movement in order to generate a compression pressure.
  • the book block 1 is held between clamps 3.
  • the pressing bar 2 moves sideways from the position according to FIG. 1b into the positions illustrated in FIGS. 1c-e, the tangential rolling motion being controlled in such a way that the compensation resulting therefrom is progressively reduced and the printed sheets are folded over in the outer areas of the book block spine by an increasingly reinforced friction component.
  • the pressure bar 2 shown in dash-dotted lines in FIGS. 1c-e each represents the positions again without compensation by counter-rolling.
  • the press-off bar 2 returns to its starting position after a press-off operation has been carried out on a path that is remote from the block back.
  • the pressure strips 2 work continuously, preferably a double pressure operation is provided with a view to gentle treatment of the spine of the book block.
  • the sliding friction movement of the two pressing strips 2 can be varied, on the one hand by applying differently strong frictional forces through more or less counteracting tangential rolling movement and on the other hand by controlling this tangential movement at any point on the book block spine.
  • the two pressing bars 2, which simultaneously move continuously in opposite directions, have cantilevers 4 which extend transversely to the longitudinal direction and on which rectilinear roller tracks 4a are located.
  • the booms 4 are on their roller tracks 4a in assigned guideways 5a in transverse bearing 5, which are located on a longitudinally extending support frame 6.
  • the arms 4 are provided on their underside with a toothing 4b which engage with toothed segments 7 which are rotatably mounted in the transverse bearing 5 via a common drive shaft 9.
  • the toothed segments 7 receive their rotary movement via control levers 10 seated on the drive shaft 9 with follower rollers 11 starting from curves 8 and thus control the pressure bars 2 in the linear guideways 5a of the transverse bearings 5 back and forth.
  • the rolling movement of the pressing elements 2, which is superimposed on the tangential sliding friction movement, can be achieved by means of differently configured curves 8.
  • the tangential sliding friction movement of the two pressure strips 2 on the rounded spine of the book block 1 takes place from a radius-running common roller conveyor 15 mounted in the side part 13 with associated individual web guide segments 14 which can be moved on the roller conveyors 15 and have a toothing 14a on their underside.
  • a holder 16 serves as the connecting element between the web guide segment 14 and the support frame 6, which is rigidly attached to the web guide segment 14 on the one hand and releasably secured in the support frame 6 via a clamping screw 17 and an elongated hole 18.
  • the two pressing strips 2 are moved downwards and backwards to the center of the block and on a path lying away from the block spine and upwards to their starting position, in which they lie close together.
  • the entire pressing device is moved up and down via eccentric 22 from a drive shaft 23 in time coordination with the movement of the pressing bars 2 in the direction of the arrow.
  • the back of the book block is preferably pressed twice, with the aim of gentle treatment of the book block 1.
  • the entire pressing device executes a vertical infeed movement by adjusting the eccentrics 22, followed by the second movement of the pressing bars 2 and thus the final pressing of the back.
  • pressing twice to further improve back stabilization is useful.
  • the side parts 13 with the toothed segments 21, the web guide segments 14 and the roller tracks 15 can be adjusted in height relative to the support frame 6 after loosening the clamping screws 17 in the elongated holes 18, as a result of which the pivoting radius of the pressure bars 2 changes .
  • an adjusting spindle 25 is provided which engages in a threaded block 26 screwed to the side part 24 and movable in the base frame 27 in guideways 27a.
  • the book block pressing device according to the invention can be provided as a forward and return station, which can be moved synchronously with a continuously driven staple transport system, whereby a further increase in performance can be achieved.
  • the device is received by a base plate 28 with vertical and horizontal rollers 29 which run on tracks 30 of a machine frame 31.
  • a drive lever 32 which is articulated on a chain 34 driven by the main drive and runs around deflection sprockets 33 and moves the base plate 28 back and forth with the book block pressing device when the chain 34 rotates.
