Claims (7)

  1. Vorrichtung zum Stranggießen von dünnen Metallbändern (6) zwischen zwei parallelen sich drehenden Walzen (2), mit Seitenwänden (3) zum Zurückhalten des flüssigen Metalls an den Walzenenden, die mit den Walzen den Gießraum für das flüssige Metall (1) begrenzen, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sie einen ebenen Deckel (7) aufweist, der oberhalb des Gießraumes für das flüssige Metall (1) und in unmittelbarer Nähe der Lage von dessen Meniskus angeordnet ist, um eine thermische Abschirmung zu bilden, die derart bemessen ist, daß die gesamte Oberfläche des flüssigen Metalls bedeckt ist und daß der Deckel (7) mit einer feuerfesten Beschichtung (8) auf seiner dem flüssigen Metall zugewandten und sich auf den beiden Walzen (2) abstützenden Seite versehen ist.
  2. Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Seitenwände (3) mit Öffnungen (12) zur Versorgung des zwischen den beiden Walzen (3) vorhandenen Gießraumes mit flüssigem Metall versehen sind.
  3. Vorrichtung nach einem der Ansprüche 1 und 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß im Deckel (7) eine Öffnung (9) zum Einblasen eines neutralen Gases unter Überdruck in den Raum zwischen dem Meniskus (4) des flüssigen Metalls und der feuerfesten Schicht (8) vorgesehen ist, wobei dieses Gas als Lagerkissen für den Deckel dienen kann.
  4. Ebener Deckel (7), der mit einer feuerfesten Beschichtung (8) versehen ist und der für eine Vorrichtung nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3 bestimmt ist.
  5. Deckel nach Anspruch 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Beschichtung (8) aus einer Vielzahl von Schichten aus feuerfesten Fasern besteht.
  6. Deckel nach Anspruch 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die feuerfeste Beschichtung (8) ein Gewebe aus kontinuierlichen polykristallinen keramischen Fasern ist.
  7. Deckel nach Anspruch 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die feuerfeste Beschichtung (8) sowohl eine Anordnung aus Schichten aus feuerfesten Fasern als auch aus einem Gewebe aus kontinuierlichen polykristallinen keramischen Fasern aufweist.
