- contacts such as plugs and. The like.
- tape goods instead of with individual contacts, i.e. separate the individual contacts only when crimping from a coherent tape that contains a large number of contacts.
- a device working with tape goods with two handles of the type customary for pliers, with at least one die and a pressure stamp, and with a device for separating the contacts from the tape is e.g. described in DE-C-26 47 886.
- This previously known device has a bar which is pivotally arranged to the side of the die and is provided with a guide for the band, on which a sheet-shaped shear knife and a latchable transport device for gradually advancing the band are arranged. Before the crimping of a contact begins, a handwheel of the transport device must be moved from one latching position to the next by hand.
- the present invention has for its object to provide a new, extremely space-saving and clean working device for attaching contacts made of tape goods to electrical conductors.
- the features of the invention are set out in patent claim 1, advantageous further developments being recorded in the connected subclaims.
- the device according to the invention has the general shape of a conventional crimping pliers 10 with a pair of jaws 11, 12 and a pair of handles 21, 22.
- the first jaw 11 is rigidly connected to the first handle 21 to form a device body 20, the second jaw 12 movable, driven by the second handle 22, and is articulated on the device body 20 by means of a pincer member.
- the pincer member can either have the shape of a conventional pin 16 (Fig. 5), or that of a leg 15 'of a U-shaped bracket 15 described later.
- the jaws 11, 12 each carry, in a conventional manner, one, preferably exchangeable, press stamp 11a, 12a.
- the two press stamps together form a die or a crimping station. In this respect, the construction is conventional.
- an elongated, along the jaws 11, 12 and over their free ends 11 ', 12' extending on the arm 13 with its first end 13 '(Fig. 2) is pivotally arranged on the pincer member 15', 16.
- An equally elongated feed table 23 is articulated to the opposite free second end 13 ⁇ of the support arm 13 by means of a pivot pin 14.
- the feed table 23 is shorter than the support arm 13, stretches along the support arm 13 back to the free ends 11 ', 12' of the jaws 11, 12 and ends at 23 'in the area of these free ends.
- a feed unit 24 for feeding tape goods 30 (FIG. 8) to the crimping station 11a, 12a is fixedly arranged on the feed table 23 such that an elongated, low gap S is located above the upper surface 23 along the entire length of one side of the feed unit ⁇ of the feed table 23 extends.

- the transport roller 24a is preferably provided with a somewhat flexible friction tire 24b, e.g. made of rubber or the like, provided, and then touches the surface 23 ⁇ with this tire.
- a somewhat flexible friction tire 24b e.g. made of rubber or the like, provided, and then touches the surface 23 ⁇ with this tire.
- it can have a corrugated circumference or the like.
- the band 30 (FIG. 8), which is produced in a manner known per se and lies outside the scope of the present invention, has an edge strip R with manipulation openings R ′ originating from the production, and a multiplicity of contacts K.
- Each contact K has a contact part K 'and a connecting part K ⁇ , the latter of which is intended to crimp the stripped end of an electrical conductor will.
- the individual contacts K are connected to the edge strip R at a single point, beyond the connecting part K ⁇ .
- the above-mentioned gap S in the feed unit 24 has a thickness which enables the edge strip R to be introduced.
- FIGS. 5 and 6 The storage of both the pincer member 15 'or 16, and the pivot pin 14 is shown in FIGS. 5 and 6 with return elements 14a, 15a in the form of spring coils, so that both the support arm 13 - after pivoting relative to the fixed jaw 11 or Device body 20 - as well as the feed table 23 - after pivoting relative to the support arm 13 - are automatically returned to the rest position shown in Fig. 1.
- the pivots, and thus also the rest positions concerned, are determined by cooperating pairs of stop members.
- the support arm 13 on the one hand there is a plate 25a to be described in more detail later, which abuts the edge of the upper press die 11a (limitation when swiveling upwards), and on the other hand (limitation when swiveling downwards, ie into the rest position) ) from a support arm 13 near the pliers pin member 15 ', 16 (Fig. 5) arranged cylinder pin 13b, which runs in a groove 13b' in the pliers body 20, and strikes at the end of the groove.
- the stop members which determine the rest position, consist of an edge 13a (FIG. 2) of the support arm 13, and of an adjacent edge 24a of a projecting part of the feed unit 24.
- a set screw 19 is arranged as a driving member for the feed table 23, which with a closing movement of the movable jaw 12 in the direction of arrow P (Fig. 1a) with the facing end 23' of the feed table 23, or with a fixedly arranged knife 25b, which will be described later, can engage around the feed table 23 to pivot about the pivot pin 14 upwards until the mutual engagement of the abovementioned stop members 23a 'and 25a'.
- both the device body 20 and the movable jaw 12 can advantageously consist in a conventional manner of two spaced apart side plates.
- a pair of cooperating knives Arranged between the feed unit 24 and the dies 11a, 12a is a pair of cooperating knives, which form a cutting station for cutting the strip material 30 and which consist of the knives 25a and 25b already mentioned.
- the knife 25a is formed by a plate attached to the support arm 13 and the knife 25b by a block attached to the feed table 23 by means of the screw 23a already mentioned.
- a free part of the lower surface 25aa of the plate 25a is located in, or slightly above, the upper surface 23 ⁇ of the feed table 23.
- the mutually facing edges of the plate 25a and the block 25b are formed into cutting edges 25a '25b', the edge 25a 'of the knife 25a also fills the abovementioned function of a stop member.
- a stop and holding element 17 Arranged on the first jaw 11 in addition to the press ram 11a is a stop and holding element 17 according to FIG. 7, which has a spring-loaded link 17a as the holding member and serves to guide the contact K and in particular to secure it against rotation, and further on the one hand forms a stop which prevents the conductor from being inserted too far into the contact, and on the other hand also has the function of ejecting the crimped contact from the die.
- the pliers pin member 15 ' is formed by one leg of a bracket-shaped or U-shaped holder 15, the spaced second leg 15 ⁇ is intended for a supply spool 27 (Fig. 2 and 3) for a (not shown) wound supply To carry tape material 30, which is to be inserted into the feed unit 24 at E.
- the device according to the invention can of course also be used for shorter lengths of strip material that are not wound on a spool, and consequently the pincer member can also consist of a conventional pin 16 according to FIG. 5.
- the device works in the following way.
- the band 30 is inserted with its edge strip R at E into the gap S between the housing of the feed unit 24 and the surface 23 ⁇ of the feed table 23, and is guided under the transport roller 24a, after which it is advanced to the crimping station 11a, 11b in such a way that the transport roller 24a is rotated on its peripheral part 24a projecting above with a finger of a hand in the direction of the arrow P '.
- the feed can only take place until the edge strip R, which passes under the plate 25a, abuts a fixed stop 18 there, which is located such that the first contact K of the band 30 is then exactly in the die 11a, 12a .
- the stripped end of a conductor is now inserted into the connecting part K ⁇ of this contact K.
- the second jaw 12 By actuating the handle 22, the second jaw 12 is brought up to the first jaw 11 and the contact K, stabilized by the spring-loaded retaining member 17a, is crimped around the conductor in a conventional manner.
- the end part R Rand of the edge strip R belonging to the relevant contact is separated from the rest of the edge strip, and also the contact K is separated from the separated end part R ⁇ .
- the adjusting screw 19 ends in the rest position according to FIG. 1a a bit below the knife block 25b at 19 ', so that the second jaw 12 must first carry out part of its closing movement, namely until the press punch 12a into the Height of the upper surface of the plate 25a reaches before an engagement between the adjusting screw 19 and the feed table 23 occurs.
- the adjusting screw 19 enables the timing of the engagement and the mutual end position of the two cutting edges to be set precisely.
- the contact K is separated from the edge strip R by means of two cooperating cutting edges running in the longitudinal direction of the strip material 30, namely an edge 25a ⁇ (FIG. 4) of the plate 25a running in the longitudinal direction of the strip material, and the upper end edge of the facing flank of the press Stamp 12a in the second jaw 12.
- the separated end piece R ⁇ of the edge strip R forms waste that falls out of the device. After returning the second jaw 12 to the starting position, a new feed and a new crimping can take place.
