Abstract
Description
-
- Die Verbindungen (II) dienen als Komponenten zur Herstellung von kationischen Farbstoffen.
- Elektrostatische Toner enthalten neben einem geeigneten Polymeren, farbgebenden Komponenten und weiteren Zusätzen in der Regel Verbindungen, welche die Ladung der Teilchen stabilisieren.
- Aufgabe der Erfindung war, weitere Toner bereitzustellen, die für elektrostatische Kopierverfahren hervorragend geeignet sind.
- Die Erfindung betrifft einen elektristatischen Toner, bestehend aus einem polymeren Bindemittel mit einem Erweichungspunkt im Bereich von 40° bis 200°C , 0,01 bis 2 Gew.% - bezogen auf den Toner - eines Ladungsstabilisators und gegebenenfalls einer farbgebenden Komponente, der dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, daß der Toner als Ladungsstabilisator mindestens eine Verbindung der Formel (I) enthält:
R¹ Chlor oder Methyl,
R² C₄-C₂₂-Alkyl, Benzyl oder 2-Phenylethyl,
A⊖ ein Äquivalent eines Anions,
n 0,1 oder 2,
m 1 oder 2 und
r 1 oder 2 bedeuten. - Einige Toner gemäß der Erfindung zeichnen sich durch eine um etwa 50% höhere Aufladung in positiver Richtung aus, als Toner des Standes der Technik.
- In der Formel (I) steht R² neben Benzyl- und Phenylethyl für C₄- bis C₂₂-Alkyl. Im einzelnen sind für R² z.B. zu nennen: n- und i-Butyl, n- und i-Pentyl, Hexyl, Heptyl, n- und i-Octyl, 2-Ethylhexyl, Nonyl, Decyl, Dodecyl, Tetradecyl, Hexadecyl, Stearyl, Eicosyl, Doeicosyl, wobei die Alkylgruppen linear oder verzweigt sind.
- Vorzugsweise steht R² für Benzyl oder für C₁₀- bis C₂₂-Alkyl insbesondere für C₁₂-C₂₂-Alkyl.
- Besonders bevorzugt sind Toner mit Verbindungen (I), in denen R¹ Methyl und n 0 oder 1 sind und R² für C₁₀-C₂₂ insbesondere für C₁₂-C₂₂-Alkyl stehen.

- Die Herstellung der Toner ist bekannt.
- Die folgenden Beispiele sollen die Erfindung zusätzlich erläutern. Die Teile und Prozente beziehen sich auf das Gewicht.
- 15,8 Teile Pyrrolidino-[1,2-a]-benzimidazol und 13,2 Teile Dimethylsulfat wurden in 100 Teilen Ethanol 3 Stunden zum Sieden erhitzt. Nach Abdestillieren des Lösungsmittels bei 40°C/12 Torr wurde der Rückstand in 200 Teilen Wasser von 20°C gelöst und mit 12,1 Teilen Natriumtetrafluoroborat versetzt. Der gebildete Niederchlag wurde nach Abkühlen auf 5°C abfiltriert und mit Wasser gewaschen. Ausbeute: 7 Teile (= 27% d.Th.) eines farblosen Pulvers der Formel

- 15,8 Teile Pyrrolidino-[1,2-a]-benzimidazol und 37,3 Teile 1-Didecylbromid wurden 4 Stunden auf 140°C erhitzt. Nach dem Abkühlen auf 20°C wurde das Reaktionsprudukt 30 Minuten mit 150 Teilen Ethylacetat verrührt, der gebildete Niederschlag abfiltriert und mit Ethylacetat gewaschen. Man erhielt 37 Teile (=91% d.Th.) eines farblosen Pulvers der Formel
- 16,3 Teile des nach Beispiel 3 erhaltenen Produkts wurden in 300 Teilen Wasser von 40°C gelöst und mit 4,8 Teilen Natriumtetrafluoroborat versetzt. Der gebildete Niederschlag wurde nach dem Abkühlen auf 5°C durch Filtration isoliert, mit Wasser gewaschen und getrocknet. Man erhielt 12 Teile (= 73 d.Th.) eines farblosen Pulvers der Formel

- II.1 An dem Toner wurden nach folgendem Verfahren die elektrostatische Aufladung bestimmt:
- Zur Herstellung eines Developers werden 99% eines Eisenpulvers mit Teilchengrößen zwischen 75 und 175 µm, einer mittleren Teilchengröße von 120 µ und sphärischer Partikelform mit 1% des Toners genau eingewogen und 10 Minuten auf einem Rollenbock aktiviert. Danach wird die elektrostatische Aufladung des Developers bestimmt. Etwa 5 g des aktivierten Developers werden in einem handelsüblichen q/m-Meter (Firma Epping GmbH, Neufahrn) in eine hard-blow-off-Zelle, die mit einem Elektrometer elektrisch verbunden ist, eingefüllt. Die Maschenweiten der in der Meßzelle eingesetzten Siebe beträgt 50 µm. Damit ist gewährleistet, daß der Toner möglichst vollständig ausgeblasen wird, der Carrier aber in der Meßzelle verbleibt. Durch einen kräftigen Luftstrom (ca. 4 000 cm³/min.) und gleichzeitigem Absaugen wird der Toner nahezu vollständig von den Carrierteilchen entfernt, wobei letztere in der Meßzelle verbleiben. Die Aufladung des Carriers wird am Elektrometer registriert. Sie entspricht dem Betrag der Aufladung der Tonerteilchen, nur mit umgekehrten Vorzeichen. Zur Berechnung des q/m-Wertes wird deshalb der Betrag von q mit den umgekehrten Vorzeichen verwendet. Durch Zurückwägen der Meßzelle wird die Masse an dem ausgeblasenen Toner bestimmt und daraus die elektrostatische Aufladung q/m berechnet.
- Die an den Tonern bestimmte Aufladung ist am Ende der Tonerbeispiele (Toner) in einer Tabelle zusammengefaßt.
- In einem Mixer werden 94,0 Teile eines Copolymers aus 70% Styrol und 30% n-Butylmethacrylat, 5 Teile Ruß und 1 Teil Stearyl-pyrrolidino-[1,2-a-benzimidazolium]bromid aus Beispiel 5 intensiv gemischt, bei 120°C geknetet, extrudiert und vorgemahlen. Durch eine Mahlung in einer Fließbettgegenstrahlmühle mit Sichterrad und anschließende Sichtung werden Tonerteilchen zwischen 5-25 µm mit einer mittleren Partikelgröße von 15 µm erzeugt. Es wird ein Developer hergestellt, indem 99 Teile des unter II.1 beschriebenen Eisenpulvers mit 1 Teil des Toners eingewogen und 10 Minuten auf einem Rollenbock aktiviert werden.
- Danach wird an einem q/m-Meter die elektrostatische Aufladbarkeit q/m bestimmt (Tabelle 1).
- In analoger Weise wie bei Toner 1 beschrieben, wird ein Toner erzeugt, indem 94,0% des Copolymers aus Styrol und n-Butylmethacrylat, 5% Ruß und 1% Stearyl-pyrrolidino-[1,2-a-benzimidazolium]tetrafluoroborat aus Beispiel 6 gemischt, geknetet, vorgemahlen, strahlgemahlen und gesichtet werden. Es wird ein Developer hergestellt, indem 99 Teile des unter II.1 beschriebenen Eisenpulvers mit 1 Teil des Toners eingewogen und 10 Minuten auf einem Rollenbock aktiviert werden.
- Danach wird an einem q/m-Meter die elektrostatische Aufladbarkeit q/m bestimmt (Tabelle 1).
- In analoger Weise wie bei Toner 1 beschrieben, wird ein Toner erzeugt, indem 94,0% des Copolymers aus Styrol und n-Butylmethacrylat, 5% Ruß und 1% Stearyl-pyrrolidino-[1,2-a-benzimidazolium]chlorid gemischt, geknetet, vorgemahlen, strahlgemahlen und gesichtet werden. Es wird ein Developer hergestellt, indem 99 Teile unter II.1 beschriebenen Eisenpulvers mit 1 Teil des Toners eingewogen und 10 Minuten auf einem Rollenbock aktiviert werden.
- Danach wird an einem q/m-Meter die elektrostatische Aufladbarkeit q/m bestimmt (Tabelle 1).
- In analoger Weise wie unter Toner 1 beschrieben, wird ein Toner erzeugt, indem 94,0% des Copolymers aus Styrol und n-Butylmethacrylat, 5% Ruß und 1% Stearyl-pyrrolidino-[1,2-a-benzimidazolium]jodid gemischt, geknetet, vorgemahlen, strahlgemahlen und gesichtet werden. Es wird ein Developer hergestellt, indem 99 Teile des unter II.1 beschriebenen Eisenpulvers mit 1 Teil des Toners eingewogen und 10 Minuten auf einem Rollenbock aktiviert werden.
- Danach wird an einem q/m-Meter die elektrostatische Aufladbarkeit q/m bestimmt (Tablelle 1).
- Es wird ein Toner wie unter Toner 1 beschrieben aus 94 Teilen Copolymer aus Styrol und n-Butylmethacrylat, 5 Teilen Ruß und 1 Teil Tetradecylpyrrolidino-[1,2-a-benzimidazolium]bromid präpariert. 1 Teil des auf diese Weise erzeugten Toners wird mit 99 Teilen des unter II.1 beschriebenen Eisenpulvers eingewogen, 10 Minuten auf einem Rollenbock aktiviert und an einem q/m-Meter die elektrostatische Aufladbarkeit bestimmt (siehe Tabelle 1).
- Es wird ein Toner wie unter Toner 1 beschrieben aus 94 Teilen Copolymer aus Styrol und n-Butylmethacrylat, 5 Teilen Ruß und 1 Teil Tetradecylpyrrolidino-[1,2-a-benzimidazolium]tetrafluoroborat präpariert. Aus 1 Teil des auf diese Weise erzeugten Toners und 99 Teilen des unter II.1 beschriebenen Eisenpulvers wird ein Developer erzeugt und die elektrostatische Aufladung bestimmt (Tabelle 1).
- Ein Toner, der wie unter Toner 1 beschrieben präpariert wurde, enthält 94 Teile des in Beispiel 1 beschriebenen Bindemittels, 5 Teile Ruß und 1 Teil Dodecyl-pyrrolidino-[1,2-a-benzimidazolium]tetrafluoroborat. Es wird ein Developer wie unter II.1 beschrieben aus 1 Teil des des hier beschriebenen Toners und 99 Teilen Eisenpulver erzeugt, wie unter Toner 1 aktiviert und an einem q/m-Meter die elektrostatische Aufladbarkeit q/m bestimmt (Tabelle 1).
- Es wird ein Toner präpariert, wobei als Ladungsstabilisator 1 Teil Decyl-pyrrolidino-[1,2-a-benzimidazolium]tetrafluoroborat eingesetzt wird. Der nach II.1 hergestellte Developer zeigte eine elektrostatische Aufladbarkeit von +15 µC/q (Tabelle 1).
- Es wird ein Toner wie unter Toner 1 beschrieben präpariert, wobei als Ladungsstabilisator 1 Teil n-Hexyl-pyrrolidino[1,2-a-benzimidazolium]tetrafluoroborat eingesetzt wird. Der nach II.1 hergestellte Developer zeigte eine elektrostatische Aufladbarkeit von +11 µC/g (Tabelle 1).
- Aus einem Toner wie unter Toner 1 beschrieben, der als Charge controlling Agent (CCA) 1 Teil n-Propyl-pyrrolidino-[1,2-a-benzimidazolium]tetrafluoroborat enthält, wurde ein Developer hergestellt. Der q/m-Wert beträgt +3 µC/g (Tabelle 1).
- Aus einem Toner wie unter Toner 1 beschrieben, der als CCA 1 Teil Äthylpyrrolidino[1,2-a-benzimidazolium]tetrafluoroborat enthält, wird ein Developer hergestellt. Die elektrostatische Aufladbarkeit beträgt +3,1 µC/g (Tabelle 1).
- Aus einem Toner wie unter Toner 1 beschrieben, der als CAA 1 Teil Methylpyrrolidino[1,2-a-benzimidazolium]tetrafluoroborat enthält, wird ein Developer hergestellt. Die elektrostatische Aufladbarkeit beträgt +2,7 µC/g (Tabelle 1).
- Es wird ein Toner aus 95 Teilen Styrolacrylat und 5 Teilen Ruß präpariert. Der nach II.1 hergestellte Developer zeigt eine elektrostatische Aufladbarkeit von +3,1 µC/g (Tabelle 1).
