Definitions
- the invention relates to a system for the periodic loading and unloading of a gas storage and a method for storing gas at a higher pressure and a lower temperature than the pressure and temperature of a gas source and a method for the discharge of cold, under pressure in a gas storage gas for the purpose of supply to at least one consumer, the gas supplied having an ambient temperature and a lower pressure than the storage pressure.
- the second method namely the discharge of a gas storage device, mainly takes place in times when there is a high gas requirement that no longer goes from Available gas source can be covered.
- the invention is directed to areas in which large amounts of gas are stored in natural or artificial caverns, containers or the like.
- One is to store the natural gas under high pressure of approx. 150 bar and at a low temperature of approx. -70 ° C, which corresponds to a density of the natural gas of approx. 280 kg / m3 under these conditions.
- the second option is to store natural gas in liquid form.
- the natural gas has a density of approx. 450 to 500 kg / m3 and is not very dependent on the pressure. That is why liquid gas storage tanks are usually designed for a pressure of 1 to approx. 1.5 bar.
- the object of the invention is to treat both the gas for storage and for delivery to consumers in an economical manner in a single installation, the installation being designed to be as compact as possible and also to enable the use of standardized units.
- Claims 2 to 6 relate to advantageous embodiments or developments of a system defined in claim 1, while claims 9 to 14 specify advantageous embodiments for the methods described in claims 7 and 8.
- FIG. 1 shows a system in a flow diagram, which has a gas circuit 1, in which a compressor 2 and a heat exchanger 3 are arranged.
- a line 14 is connected, through which gas is supplied from a gas source in the direction of arrow z during the loading of the gas store (not shown) and through which the gas in the direction of arrow a to a consumer during the discharge of the gas store, in the case of natural gas e.g. is fed to a pipeline.
- compressed gas cooled in the heat exchanger 3 is supplied to the gas storage device through a line 5 in the direction of arrow b.
- gas from the gas storage is fed into the gas circuit through a line 6 in the direction of arrow e.
- the gas is cooled in the heat exchanger 3, a special heat or coolant liquid, which will also be discussed in more detail later, fed through a line 7 and removed from the heat exchanger 3 through a line 8, whereby A feed pump 9 is arranged in line 8.
- a standardized refrigeration machine 10 can be used to cool the heat or coolant liquid. So-called UNITOP (registered trademark) or UNITURBO (registered trademark) can be used, for example.
- Such chillers usually consist of a water-cooled condenser, an expansion valve, an evaporator that cools cold water (with or without antifreeze) or another liquid, and a one- or two-stage compressor with gear and electric motor drive.
- Liquids that have a partial pressure of less than 2 bar at 200 ° C, a viscosity of less than 10 cP at -30 ° C and no significant corrosion of stainless steel at 100 ° C and no significant decomposition are suitable as heat or coolant fluids at 150 ° C.
- Liquids which have the properties mentioned are, for example, Dowtherm J (registered trademark of DOW), Paracryol (registered trademark of Sulzer) or a methanol-water mixture or a glycol-water mixture.
- a standardized refrigeration machine 10 can be used to cool the heat or coolant liquid.
- a heat-transferring liquid advantageously the same one that is used for cooling, is heated to the required temperature in a heating device 11 and supplied to the heat exchanger 3.
- the heating device 11 can be designed, for example, as a fired heater, as an electrical heating device or also as a countercurrent heat exchanger in which the liquid is heated with hot water. It is also possible to design the heating device 11 as a steam condenser, the liquid to be heated flowing through pipes and the steam condensing on the outer surfaces of the pipes.
- Figs. 2 to 7 The elements corresponding to the plant elements of Fig. 1, e.g. Refrigerator, heater, heat exchanger, compressor, lines and the like are shown in Figs. 2 to 7 with the same reference numerals.
- the invention consists in a system in which both loading and unloading of the gas storage device can be carried out, a system designed according to the invention naturally has all the system elements required for loading and unloading.
- the gas storage is loaded with natural gas in the following manner: natural gas is fed into the system through line 4 and the water contained in the natural gas is separated from it in a dryer 12 of a known type and through a line 13 led away. Without this measure, traces of water still contained in natural gas could freeze and clog the downstream system elements.
- the natural gas is then introduced into a heat exchanger 15 through a line 14.
- the natural gas is pre-cooled with the help of heat or coolant liquid cooled in the refrigerator 10. This liquid is introduced into the precooler 15 through a line 16, which is connected to the line 7, and leaves it through a line 17, which is connected to the line 8.
- the achievable pre-cooling temperature is essentially determined by the performance of the refrigeration machine 10 and the properties of the heat-coolant liquid.
- the compression of the natural gas to the pressure required for storage takes place in the compressor 2, which is referred to below as the main compressor. If the natural gas is stored in gaseous form in the gas storage, this compressor is the only one that is mandatory for carrying out the loading and unloading.
- the compressed natural gas is cooled further in the heat exchanger 3 and part of it is introduced through a line 18 of the gas circuit into a counterflow heat exchanger 19.
- the remaining amount of the cooled and compressed gas is branched out of the gas circuit through a line 20, relaxed in a throttle valve 21 using the Joule-Thompson effect and introduced into the heat exchanger 19.
- the natural gas, cooled to the storage temperature by heat exchange in the heat exchanger 19, is introduced into the gas store through a line 22 in the direction of arrow b.
- the system shown in FIG. 3 differs from FIG. 2 only in that the compressed gas branched off from the gas circuit through line 20 is not expanded in a throttle valve but in an expansion turbine 23 and is thereby cooled.
- the expansion turbine 23 drives a compressor 24. This compressor sucks the gas that is heated during the heat exchange from the heat exchanger 19 and compresses it to the suction pressure of the main compressor 2.
- FIG. 4 differs from FIGS. 2 and 3 essentially in that the natural gas is to be stored in liquid form in a liquid gas storage device.
- the gas to be stored is introduced into a separator 25 for separating off carbon dioxide.
- separators are known. For example, they can be designed as a chemical carbon dioxide washing system or as a molecular sieve system.
- the carbon dioxide is led out of the system through a line 26. This measure is taken to avoid clogging of the downstream system elements with solid carbon dioxide.
- the compressed gas After the compressed gas has cooled in the heat exchanger 19, it is cooled further in a countercurrent heat exchanger 27 and then expanded in a throttle valve 28 (Joule-Thompson effect), the gas partially liquefying.
- the mixture consisting of liquid and gas is then introduced into a container 29.
- the liquefied natural gas is fed into a liquid gas storage device through a line 30 in the direction of arrow b.
- the non-liquefied natural gas and any other inert gases present are introduced through a line 31 into the heat exchanger 27, in which they heat up.
- the gas is then sucked in by a compressor 32 through a line 33 and compressed to the suction pressure of the main compressor 2 and introduced through a line 34 into the gas circuit on the suction side of the main compressor 2.
- the natural gas is stored in liquid form, analogous to FIG. 4. 4, the natural gas cooled in the heat exchanger 27 is expanded in a turbine 35, the gas partially liquefying and then being introduced into the container 29.
- the non-liquefied natural gas and any inert gases that may still be present are then also introduced from the container 29 through a line 31 into the heat exchanger 27 and heated there.
- the heated natural gas is then drawn in and compressed by a compressor 37 through a line 36.
- This compressor 37 is driven by the expansion turbine 35.
- Another compressor 38 is connected in series with the compressor 37, in which the natural gas is compressed to the suction pressure of the main compressor 2 of the gas circuit 1 and is introduced into the gas circuit 1 through a line 39.
- the liquid is pumped to the outlet pressure of the main compressor 2 by a pump group (not shown) and fed through line 6 into the system.
- a portion of the cold gas or the cold liquid is introduced through a line 40 into a mixing element 41, which can be, for example, a static mixer, together with compressed, warm circulating gas.
- the cycle gas is heated by the heat of compression of the main compressor 2.
- the temperature of the gas mixture emerging from the mixing element 41 must not be lower than the lowest temperature of the temperature that can be generated with the refrigeration machine 10, since otherwise the heat or coolant liquid in the heat exchanger 3 could become too viscous or even freeze.
- the heat exchanger 3 works as a heating element for the gas mixture.
- the heating device 11 is switched on, in which the heating or
- Heat transfer fluid is heated to the required temperature and introduced through the lines 7 and 7 'into the heat exchanger 3 and after heat exchange through the lines 8' and 8 is recirculated back into the heating device 11.
- the remaining part of the cold gas or liquid gas is removed from line 6 through a line 42 and mixed with heated circulating gas in a second mixing element 43.
- the gas mixture which has the lowest temperature in the gas circuit, is then heated in a heat exchanger 44 through which heated heat or coolant liquid flows, and then expanded in a valve 45 to the suction pressure of the main compressor 2.
- This suction pressure is identical to the consumer pressure, for example of a pipeline system.
- the amount of gas to be supplied to a consumer is withdrawn from the circuit 1 and heated in the heat exchanger 15, which in this case acts as a heating element, to the consumer temperature, for example ambient temperature, and fed to the consumer through the line 4 in the direction of arrow a.
- FIG. 7 the system shown in FIG. 7 relates to the discharge of a cold gas or liquid gas storage device.
- the main compressor 2 is driven by a gas turbine 46 in the present case.
- a washing column 47 of known type is used for the recovery of the gas turbine waste heat.
- the gas turbine 46 is powered with air through port 48 and with fuel, e.g. Natural gas fed through connection 49.
- fuel e.g. Natural gas fed through connection 49.
- the gas turbine 46 delivers exhaust gases which are fed into the scrubbing column 47 through a line 50.
- These exhaust gases e.g. have a temperature of approx. 450 to 550 ° C, contain oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide and a substantial proportion of water vapor, which is produced during the combustion of the fuel.
- a liquid / gas contact device 51 is arranged, which can consist, for example, of a static mixer or a column packing of a known type.
- the heater 11 ' is designed in this case as a heat exchanger. Water from this heat exchanger, for example at 20 ° C., is sprayed onto the contact device 51 in the washing column 47 through a distributor 52. Direct heat exchange with the exhaust gases results in a slightly warmed-up water of, for example, approximately 30 ° C. in the sump of the washing column 47, which is conveyed by a pump 53 into the heat exchanger 11 '. The water is then countercurrent to the heat or coolant liquid eg cooled to approx. 20 ° C. The heated heat or coolant liquid is fed into line 7.
- the exhaust gas leaving wash column 47 through line 54 is at the same temperature as the bottom of wash column 47, e.g. 30 ° C.
