Definitions
- the invention relates to a two-mirror microwave directional antenna arrangement constructed symmetrically with respect to an imaginary central plane according to the so-called Gregory or Cassegrain principle, consisting of a main reflector in the form of a non-rotationally symmetrical rotary paraboloid cutout, a catch reflector shaped as an ellipsoid or hyperboloid cutout and a primary radiator, from which the catch reflector is illuminated, which in turn illuminates the main reflector, the primary radiator and the catch reflector being arranged in relation to the main reflector in such a way that the catch reflector and the primary reflector, according to the so-called off-set feeding principle, are outside the beam path of the Main reflector.
- Microwave directional antennas to be used for directional or satellite radio to which very high demands are placed with regard to the attenuation of the secondary zip field of the radiation diagram, are often set up in the form of so-called "off-set” antennas or oblique parabolic antennas with side feed.
- a section of a paraboloid of revolution is used as the antenna reflector.
- the radiating aperture is completely free from disturbing, i.e. shading elements, which are a major cause of interference radiation in conventional, rotationally symmetrical parabolic antennas.
- a known method for improving the cross-polarization attenuation of these antennas is that the asymmetrical main reflector is combined with a correspondingly shaped catch reflector in such a way that the polarization distortions generated by both reflectors largely cancel each other out.
- a hyperboloid section (Cassegrain antenna) or more often an ellipsoid section (Gregory antenna) can be used as a catch reflector.
- This antenna shows a section through the plane of symmetry of a Gregory antenna.
- This antenna consists of a main reflector 1 in the form of a non-rotationally symmetrical rotational paraboloid cutout, a catch reflector 2 shaped as a rotational ellipsoid cutout and a primary radiator 3 from which the catch reflector 2 is illuminated.
- the catch reflector 2 in turn illuminates the main reflector 1.
- F1 is the focal point of the paraboloid of revolution and at the same time one of the two focal points of the ellipsoid of revolution, of which a section forms the catch reflector 2.
- ⁇ 1 and ⁇ 3 are the two edge ray angles. If the position of the second ellipsoid focal point F2, which coincides at least approximately with the phase center of the primary radiator 3, is determined, then according to the article by Y Mizuguchi, M. Akagawa, H.Yokoi: “Offset Gregorian Antenna" in the magazine “Electronics and Communications in Japan ", Vol. 61-B, No. 3, 1978, pages 58 to 66 all other sizes and angles of the arrangement are mandatory.
- the cross-polar maxima of a mussel antenna diagram could be reduced from -17 dB with direct feeding to about - 30 dB with a capture reflector 2 of about 12 wavelengths in diameter.
- the object of the invention is to provide measures by which the cross-polarization attenuation is further improved when using electrically relatively small capturing reflectors in a directional antenna of the type mentioned.
- the catch reflector has the shape of a section symmetrical with respect to the central plane of a general three-axis ellipsoid in the case of the Gregory antenna or of a general three-axis hyperboloid in the case of the Cassegrain antenna, the three semi-axes of which are different are measured.
- the length of the not in the center plane of symmetry depends on the length that results from the theoretical dimensioning of the usual ellipsoid of revolution or hyperboloid of revolution, depending on the overall structure.
- FIG. 2 shows a catch reflector 2 designed according to the invention and provided for a Gregory antenna, which is not a section of an ellipsoid of revolution but a general ellipsoid 4 with three differently dimensioned semiaxes a, b and c.
- a Gregory antenna which is not a section of an ellipsoid of revolution but a general ellipsoid 4 with three differently dimensioned semiaxes a, b and c.
- its semiaxis c which is not in the plane of symmetry x - y
- the transition from the original rotational body to a general ellipsoid 4 with three semi-axes a, b, c which are different in pairs is thus carried out.
- the equation of the ellipsoid of revolution is:
- the specified measure can also be applied to the case in which the catch reflector 2, as is required in the case of a Cassegrain antenna, is designed as a hyperboloid, with the improved contour then analogously to a section of a general three-axis hyperboloid becomes.

Abstract
