Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a device for protecting a profiled cylinder for a door lock, this lock possibly being a mortise lock or a surface-mounted lock.
  • cylinder locks are mounted in doors, in particular pivoting doors with a single leaf, so that the cylinder passes through the door in its thickness and has, projecting outwards relative to the external face of the door, a cylinder head, in which is formed a key insertion opening.
  • the cylinder also has, in the part of its lateral face located, either in the thickness of the door, if it is a mortise lock, or projecting inwards relative to the internal face of the door, in the case of a surface-mounted lock, a recess in which passes an actuating bit of the lock mechanism operating the bolt and allowing its locking in the keeper, mounted, for example, in the door frame the door, this lock mechanism being respectively housed in a mortise of the door (mortise lock) or fixed against the internal face of the door (applied lock).
  • the installer measures this projection distance and chooses, in a set of rosettes of different thicknesses, the one whose thickness comes closest to the measured distance, and he then arranges it around of the cylinder head and fixes it against the external face of the door.
  • the protection thus provided is only very imperfect, because it is possible to blow up the rosette of the door using a chisel, and then to have access to the head of the cylinder to tear it off or force it by twisting.
  • such a rose practically does not protect the lock mechanism against the holes made through the door and in the mechanism, in order to force the latter.
  • the applicant company has already proposed a solution, in its French patent application No. 0 85-09087 filed on June 14, 1985 to produce a protection device which makes it possible to protect not only the cylinder against attempted break-ins by tearing and / or torsion, but also the lock mechanism against attempts to break in by drilling through the door, and this, although the projection of the cylinder relative to the door may be different from one door to another, and in taking into account that the cylinder of the lock can be chosen from a range of cylinders of standard lengths staggered with a constant pitch which, according to European standards, is 5 mm.
  • the protection device comprises an outer recess plate with a recess fixed against the door, said recess containing a member for protecting the head of the cylinder and shims for adjusting the thickness, which are arranged one side and / or the other of a flange of the member in order to compensate, on the value of an elongation step of the cylinders chosen in a range, any variation in the distance over which the cylinder head is protruding outward from the door.
  • the elastic means are formed in particular by means suitable for working in. compression, bearing, at one end, against the internal face of the counterplate and, at another extremi tee, against a stop member linked to the protection member.
  • this stop member is constituted by a support plate made integral with the protection member.
  • the protective member comprises a head of larger diameter capable of projecting from the external face of the counterplate, followed by a sleeve of smaller diameter suitable for protrude beyond the internal face of the counterplate, in a housing formed in the door, the shoulder formed at the transition of the head of the protection member and of the sleeve being adapted to come into abutment against a corresponding shoulder provided in the orifice of the counter-plate, under the effect of the elastic means, when the protection member is not subjected to other stresses.
  • the elastic means can be constituted by a helical spring surrounding the protection member.
  • the support plate fixed against the face of the protective member adjacent to the door, is located in a housing of the counter-plate, connection means being provided between the plate. support and counter plate to allow sliding of the plate and the protective assembly in a direction parallel to the generatrices of the profiled cylinder, the connecting means further comprising stop means for limiting the movement of the plate support.
  • the elastic means can be formed by pressure springs regularly distributed around the protection member.
  • the contour of the support plate or, in the case of the first embodiment, the contour of the protection member may have at least one flat suitable for cooperating with a corresponding flat provided in the housing of the counter-plate. .
  • the protection member comprises a clean protection washer to be applied to the key entry provided in the cylinder
  • a sheath may be disposed at the inside of the protective member for retaining the washer, this sheath surrounding the profiled cylinder of the lock.
  • the invention also relates to a lock equipped with a protection device as defined above.
  • a door having a mortise 2 intended to receive a mortise lock the overall mechanism of which is not shown, and which includes, at its lower part, a cylinder 3, which is a double profiled cylinder, chosen, depending on the thickness of the door to be fitted, in a range of cylinders whose standard lengths range from 5 to 5 mm.
  • the cylinder 3 comprises, if one considers it in its mounting position, an upper part 3 a, of cylindrical shape of revolution with an axis perpendicular to the mean plane of the door 1, and a lower part 3 b, having a form of set of flattened rectangular parallelepiped, connecting radially to part 3 a by one of its elongated walls of smaller width, the opposite elongated wall being rounded.
  • the cylinder 3 is mounted in a bore 1 a which passes through the door 1 in its thickness, and its central part has a transverse notch 4 formed over the entire section of the upper part 3 a and extending into the lower part 3 b.
  • the notch opens in the mortise of the door 1, in which are housed the so-called "half-turn" lock mechanism, for controlling the bolt, and the associated lock mechanism for locking the bolt in a keeper mounted in the frame, mechanisms which are not shown.
  • the cylinder head 5 which has an opening for inserting the key in its end face, protrudes over a certain distance 11 (FIG. 1) outside the external face. 9 of the door 1.
  • the mechanisms of the lock, the bolt and the strike are well known organs, it does not appear useful to describe them further, nor to represent them.
  • the protection device comprises an outer counter plate 7, of rectangular shape with rounded tops, which is joined by a bearing or internal face 8 against the external face 9, and which covers an area of this face 9 which extends not only facing the lock and the cylinder 3, but also beyond the horizontal projection of the silhouette of the lock on the external face 9 of the door, upwards and downwards, as can be seen on the Figure 1.
  • the width of the counter plate 7 is such that the long side closest to the edge of door 1 is as close as possible to the edge of the zone of overlap of the external face of the door by an external part of the doorframe and directly contiguous to the doorframe, in order to prevent the introduction of a crowbar between the door 1 and the doorframe.
  • an orifice 10 is made which passes right through it and which opens into its external face 11.
  • This orifice is delimited by a cylindrical wall of revolution 12 adjacent to said external face 11 and of axis perpendicular to the mean plane of the counterplate 7, and by a wall 13 adjacent to the bearing face 8.
  • the wall 13 has a form of cylindrical assembly with an axis coincident with that of the wall 12 but of diameter smaller than that of the latter and further comprising two flats, diametrically opposite, arranged parallel to the vertical edges of the counter plate 7, the two walls 12 and 13 being joined by a shoulder 14.
  • the drilling 1 made in the door 1 for the passage of the cylinder 3 comprises, in its region close to the external face 9 of the door, a cylindrical recess of revolution 1 b.
  • the bearing face 8 of the counter plate 7 has a small circular counterbore 15, and a cylindrical terminal 16 is welded to the counter plate 7, at the bottom of each counterbore 15, of so that the terminals 16 extend perpendicularly to the support face 8 and projecting therefrom.
  • the terminals 16 each have a threaded bore 17 which opens in their free end face, and they end in a frustoconical end piece 18 facilitating their engagement in holes 19 passing through the door 1 in its thickness and housing said terminals 16.
  • the counterplate 7 and the terminals 16 are made of a steel which has undergone a treatment of the carbonitriding or similar type, in order to have a high surface hardness.
  • the counter plate 7 is anchored to the door 1 using an inner plate 20 and four countersunk screws 21.
  • the inner plate 20 has a rectangular shape of the same dimensions as the counter plate 7, and it is pierced with an orifice 22 for passage of the cylinder 3 (the end face of the internal side of the door also has an opening for introducing the key for locking from the inside), an orifice 23 for the passage of an axis of the handle for operating the lock 2 from the inside, and four holes for the passage of the screws 21, serving as housings for the heads of these screws, when their threaded bodies are screwed into the bores threaded terminals 16, and ensure the retention of the counter plate 7.
  • the inner plate 20 carries, projecting on its bearing face by which is applied against the inner face 24 of the door 1, two nuts, such as 25 ( Figure 1) which are housed each in a small recess dug in the internal face 24 of the door 1, and into which are screwed screws 26 for fixing an inner crutch support plate 27, the crutch handle 28 of which has its axis which passes through the orifice 23 to enter the lock.
  • the device for protecting said lock also comprises a member 29 for protecting the cylinder 3.
  • This member 29, made of steel treated to resist impact and drilling, comprises a tubular body 30, one axial end of which is closed by a radial disc 31 d 'a thickness substantially greater than that of the body 30.
  • the internal wall of the body 30 is parallel to the external surface of the profiled cylinder 3; as for its external wall, it is cylindrical of revolution in its part 30 a (or head) adjacent to the disc 31 (in correspondence with the cylindrical wall 12) and of cylindrical shape of smaller diameter with two diametrically opposed flats, in the part restan- ce 30 b (or sleeve), in correspondence with the wall 13.
  • These two parts 30 a, 30 b are joined by a shoulder 29 a, which can come into abutment against the shoulder 14 described above.
  • the body 30 is engaged with a reduced clearance in the orifice 10 of the counter plate 7 and it projects out of the bearing face 8 of the latter, the radial disc 31 projecting out of the external face 11 of said counter-plate 7 in order to protect the head 5 of the cylinder 3.
  • the lateral side wall 31a of this radial disc 31 is slightly chamfered.
  • the sleeve 30 b of smaller diameter than the head 30 protrudes into the recess 1 b of the door 1.
  • the radial disc 31 is pierced with an eccentric circular opening 32, forming an opening for the passage of the key towards the opening for introduction into the cylinder 3, when the protective member 29 is mounted on the head 5 of said cylinder 3.
  • the lock protection device also comprises a washer 33, made of special steel like the protection member 29, and which is mounted to rotate freely in the circular opening of the disc 31.
  • This washer 33 is a shouldered washer retained axially outwardly by its shoulder 34 against a shoulder of complementary shape presented by the disc 31 and delimiting the eccentric opening of the latter.
  • the washer 33 reveals the opening for introducing the key in the head 5 of the cylinder 3 only when it occupies a particular position in rotation in the tubular body 30.
  • the washer 33 has, on its internal face when considered in its mounting position, a short peripheral skirt 35 intended to be placed around the projection 36 outside of the part 3a of the cylinder proper 3, projection that constitutes a barrel carrying the bit 6 and rotatably mounted in this part 3a of cylinder 3.
  • the protective member 29 is completed by a sheath 37 whose internal cross section follows the contour of the profiled cylinder 3, and which is housed in the interior space of the body 30 by being applied against the internal wall of the latter; its inner and outer surfaces are of such dimensions that they surround the cylinder 3 and maintain it in the correct position relative to the member 29 and to the associated washer 33 when the protection device is assembled. Furthermore, it ensures the retention of the aforementioned washer 33 by coming to bear against the skirt 35 of this washer. Its length is such that in the mounting position, its edge located opposite the washer 33 is in the same plane as the corresponding edge of the body 30.
  • the lock protection device finally comprises a plate 38 having the shape of a disc having a central perforation for the passage of the cylinder 3 and coming to bear against the two edges situated in the same plane of the sleeve 37 and of the body 30 , said plate 38 being fixed to the latter by four screws 39.
  • the plate 38 serves to support one end of a helical spring 40 which surrounds the body 30 and the other end of which comes, in the mounting position of the protection device, bearing against the internal wall of the counter-plate 7 bordering the orifice 10.
  • the plate 38 extends, at its periphery, beyond the body 30.
  • the assembly of the protection device which has just been described can be carried out very simply.
  • the member 29 is engaged in the orifice 10 of the counter-plate 7 until the shoulders 14 and 29 a come to bear against one another.
  • the washer 33 is engaged in the opening 32 of the radial disc 31 of the member 29, then the sheath 37 is introduced, the helical spring 40 is placed around the body 30 of the member 29 and the plate is affixed. support 38, which is fixed using the screws 39 on the aforementioned body 30.
  • a cylinder 3 is chosen from a range of cylinders of standard lengths staggered with a pitch of 5 mm, this choice being made taking into account the thickness of door 1 to be fitted and of the position of the median plane of the lock, and therefore of the mortise 2, with respect to the external face 9 of this door.
  • the cylinder 3 is placed in the door, through the bore 1 a, in cooperation with the lock. According to the configuration shown in Figure 1, the head 5 of the cylinder 3 protrudes over a distance 11 relative to the outer face 9 of the door.
  • the protective device constituted by the assembly of the counterplate 7, the member 29, the washer 33, the sleeve 37, the support plate 38 and the spring 40 is then mounted.
  • the support plate 38 and the sheath 37 are engaged on the head 5.
  • the protective device is made to colisse on the cylinder 3, parallel to the generatrices of the cylinder until the skirt 35 comes into axial abutment against the head 5.
  • the sleeve 30b is then engaged in the recess 1b and the plate 38, while being in the vicinity of the bottom of the recess, remains slightly apart in the axial direction.
  • the spring 40 will be more or less compressed because the shoulder 14 will more or less move away from the shoulder 29 a, depending on the projection of the head 5, relative to the face 9
  • This compression of the spring 40 and the sliding of the counter-plate 7 relative to the member 29 make it possible to absorb variations in the length 11 of the projection less than one step.
  • FIG. 1 a configuration is shown according to which, in the mounted position, the shoulder 14 of the counterplate 7 and the shoulder 29 a of the body 30 are practically in abutment against one another, the compression of the spring 40 which has not been substantially modified during assembly.
  • FIG. 3 a configuration is shown for which the length of the projection 13 is greater than 12, which leads to maximum compression of the spring 40. If the projection were to have a length still greater than 13, the fitter chooses a cylinder 3 with a length less than one step (5 mm in the example considered).
  • the external face 9 of the door 1 has no recess or recess around the external opening of the bore 1 provided for the passage of the cylinder 3.
  • the protection member 129 made of treated steel, is essentially constituted by the cylindrical part of revolution 130 a (or head) adjacent to the disc 31. This protection member 129 does not have, on the door side, an extension of more small diameter similar to the extension 30b of Figures 1 to 3, and does not protrude beyond the bearing face 8 of the counter plate.
  • the support plate 138 is fixed, against the face of the protective member 129 adjacent to the door 1, by means of the screws 39, for example four in number evenly distributed along the circumference.
  • This retaining plate 138 has a circular contour with two flats, preferably diametrically opposite, capable of cooperating with corresponding flats provided in a housing 41 formed in the counter plate 7 and opening on the side of the door.
  • the internal contour of this housing 41 matches that of the plate 138; the cooperation of the flats ensures a blocking in rotation of the plate 138 relative to the counter-plate 7, while allowing a displacement in translation of this plate in a direction orthogonal to the mean plane of the counter plate 7.
  • the orifice opens into the housing 41.
  • the protective member 129 and the plate 138 can thus slide, relative to the counter plate 7, in the above-mentioned direction orthogonal to the mean plane of the counter plate.
