Description

The invention relates to cylinder heads which equip certain combustion engines and which comprise, associated with each combustion chamber, at least one intake duct into which opens a fuel injector. Each duct being closable, to the right of the corresponding chamber, by a stem valve, the cylinder head is generally topped with a cylinder head cover covering various valve control members, and in particular a camshaft and its bearings, rockers and their axis, valve return springs, and possibly pushers. The injectors each open into an intake duct slightly upstream of the associated valve.

Each intake duct connecting the corresponding chamber to an air intake manifold joined to the cylinder head, the injector is usually fixed to the latter near the manifold, which does not always allow, in particular when the duct is relatively long or curved, to obtain an optimal jet of fuel, that is to say a jet directed at the valve, and short enough to wet only a small surface of the wall of the duct. In addition, the injector being in direct contact with the cylinder head, a particularly hot element of the engine, the fuel which drains there is likely to overheat, or even to evaporate during an engine stop, which causes a significant difficulty in restarting the latter.

In addition, the cylinder head generally carrying several injectors associated respectively with several combustion chambers and supplied by pipes comprising in particular a common supply rail, these pipes are sometimes subject to ruptures because of the vibrations of the engine to which they are subject and because of their method of attachment at points relatively distant from each other.

The documents below illustrate this state of the art.

The object of the invention is to produce a cylinder head fitted with injectors which provide an optimal fuel jet and the heating of which is not excessive, their supply being ensured by reliable pipes.

According to the invention, each injector sealingly passes through the cylinder head cover and is held thereon by the supply pipe itself fixed on the cylinder head cover, and an annular spacer slightly flexible and not very conductive of heat is clamped between the cylinder head and the cylinder head cover coaxially with each injector.

Selon d'autres particularités avantageuses de l'invention:

  • - la canalisation alimentant plusieurs injecteurs sensiblement parallèles entre eux et comportant une rampe sensiblement perpendiculaire aux injecteurs et munie d'embouts tubulaires coaxiaux à ceux-ci et engagés de façon étanche sur leur extrémité extérieure, la rampe est fixée au couvre-culasse par des vis sensiblement parallèles aux injecteurs;
  • - le conduit d'admission recevant l'injecteur débouchant sur une face latérale de la culasse, son extrémité obturable par la soupape associée est située, dans la chambre de combustion correspondante, du côté de la face latérale opposée;
  • - la Figure 1 est une vue en élévation et en, coupe suivant la ligne 1 - de la Figure 2 d'une culasse de moteur à combustion interne selon l'invention;
According to other advantageous features of the invention:
  • - the pipe supplying several injectors which are substantially parallel to each other and comprising a ramp substantially perpendicular to the injectors and provided with tubular end pieces coaxial with the latter and engaged in leaktight manner on their outer end, the ramp is fixed to the cylinder head cover by screws substantially parallel to the injectors;
  • - The intake duct receiving the injector opening onto a lateral face of the cylinder head, its end closable by the associated valve is located, in the corresponding combustion chamber, on the side of the opposite lateral face;
  • the cylinder head carrying a camshaft which cooperates by means of pushers with the valves associated with the injectors, and by means of rocker arms with other valves, the injectors are substantially parallel to the latter, and the cylinder head cover comprises funnel-shaped portions each containing one of the injectors, and each interposed, in a direction parallel to the shaft, between two rocker arms.
  • A nonlimiting example of embodiment of a cylinder head according to the invention is described below, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
  • - Figure 1 is an elevational view in section along line 1 - of Figure 2 of an internal combustion engine cylinder head according to the invention;
  • - And Figure 2 is a simplified view from above, with partial cutting of a cylinder head cover.

We see in the Figures a cylinder head 1 of an internal combustion engine, intended to cover by its underside 2 a cylinder block by delimiting with pistons several combustion chambers 3. In each chamber 3 open two intake ducts 4 , 5 and an exhaust duct 6 which can be closed off in the usual manner respectively by intake rod 7, 8 or exhaust rod valves (not visible because hidden by the valve 7 in FIG. 1). At their end opposite to the chamber 3, the intake ducts 4, 5 open into a first lateral face 9 of the cylinder head 1, and the exhaust duct 6 opens into the opposite side 10, communicating respectively with intake 11 and exhaust 12.

The intake valve 7 and the exhaust valve are substantially perpendicular to the face 2 and located, above the chamber 3, on the side of the side face 10, and each cooperate with one of two parallel pushers 13 , 14 actuated respectively by a cam 15 and a cam 16 integral with a shaft 17 carried by the cylinder head 1 parallel to the faces 2, 9 and 10.

Cet axe 19 est porté par plusieurs chapeaux de paliers 21 qui maintiennent l'arbre 17 sur des cloisons transversales 22 de la culasse 1.The intake valve 8 is significantly inclined with respect to the other two valves and is located, above the chamber 3, on the side of the side face 9, where it cooperates with a rocker arm oscillating on an axis 19 and actuated by a cam 20 of the shaft 17. This axis 19 is carried by several bearing caps 21 which hold the shaft 17 on transverse partitions 22 of the cylinder head 1.

Chaque soupape est classiquement rappelée sur son siège par un ressort tel que celui 23 correspondant à la soupape 7.Each valve is conventionally returned to its seat by a spring such as that 23 corresponding to the valve 7.

A cylinder head cover 24 covers the cylinder head 1 so as to protect the shaft 17 and its bearings 21, the rocker arms 18 and their axis 19 as well as the pushers 13, 14 and the springs.

According to the invention, for each combustion chamber 3, a fuel injector 25 opening into the intake duct 4 slightly upstream of the valve 7 passes through the cylinder head cover 24 by a bore 26, with the interposition of a ring d tightness 27, and is maintained on the cylinder head cover 24 by a supply pipe 28 fixed to the latter, and an annular spacer 29 made of slightly flexible material and good thermal insulator is sandwiched between the cylinder head 1 and the cylinder head cover 24 in line with bore 26, coaxially with injector 25.

The injector 25, orthogonal to the shaft 17, is substantially parallel to the valve 8 and directed so that it provides a jet of fuel J reaching the valve 7 near its seat, wetting only a small area of the wall of the duct 4, which ensures optimum operation of the motor.

An injector 25 being associated with each combustion chamber 3, the injectors 25 are mutually parallel and supplied with fuel by the line 28 which has a ramp 30 perpendicular to the injectors, provided with lateral tubular end pieces 31 each engaged on the outer end an injector 25, coaxially with it, with the interposition of a ring, of sealing 32. The pipe 28 is fixed to the cylinder head cover 24 by screws 33 passing through lugs 34 which project from the ramp 30. These screws 33 are parallel to the injectors 25, so that their screwing ensures the sliding mounting of each end piece 31 on the outer end of the corresponding injector 25, in line with the ring 32, up to the proximity of an annular face 35 of the injector 25, the latter being consequently held axially between the cylinder head cover 24 and the end piece 31.

Each bore 26 is arranged at the bottom of a hollow portion 36 of the cylinder head cover. This portion 36 forming a funnel is interposed, in a direction parallel to the shaft 17, between two rockers 18 associated one with the chamber 3, the other with an adjacent chamber. This arrangement makes it possible to optimally approach the injector 25 of the valve 7, although the latter is distant from the face 9 where the associated duct opens out. This distance is advantageous because it allows the admission orifices in the chamber 3 (valves 7 and 8) to be roughly diametrically opposite, while leaving space, under the conduit 4, for a spark plug 37 whose electrodes are advantageously located near the center of the chamber 3.

The injector 25 being carried by the cylinder head cover 24 and the latter being separated from the cylinder head 1 by the spacer 29 which is not very conductive of heat, the heating of the injector is lower than if it was conventionally fixed directly to the cylinder head 1. The risk of fuel evaporation in the injector is therefore reduced. Furthermore, the fixing of the ramp 30 to the cylinder head cover 24 by several screws 33, which can be relatively close together, gives the pipe 28 a satisfactory rigidity and a good resistance to vibrations, all the more so since these are somewhat filtered, in line with the cylinder head cover 24, by the usual seal 38 between the latter and the cylinder head 1 and by the flexible spacers 29.
