Claims (12)

1. A latch for a sliding door, comprising a casing (2) in which there are disposed and guided a vertically sliding bolt (33) having hook portions (34, 35), and a striker (74), symmetrical about its median horizontal plane and penetrating into the casing (2) for the positioning thereof, indicator elements (51, 52) being provided for indicating the position of the bolt, characterised in that : - the bolt (33) has two hook portions (34, 35) inverse with respect to each other, - the striker (74) has an entry portion defined by the distance (91) separating the two ends (92, 93) of two abutment or striking faces (88, 89) thereof, and equal to the sum of the height (43) of the body of the bolt (33), the two abutment heights (40) of the rear faces (38, 39) of the inverse hook portions (34, 35) of the bolt (33), and the value of the stroke (45) of the bolt (33), - the striker (74) has two positions (75, 76) for the interpenetration of at least one projection (77) of the casing (2) in notches (78-81) of the striker (74) which are spaced apart by a distance equal to the value of the stroke (45) of the bolt (33).

A latch according to Claim 1, characterised in that it comprises a slide member (46) slidable in a slot (47) which is formed in the casing (2), with the length (48) of the said slot being identical to the sum of the length (49) of the slide member (46) and the stroke (45) of the bolt (33), the two terminal edges (55, 56) of the slide member (46) limiting the stroke (45) of the bolt (33).
3. A latch according to Claim 2, characterised in that the slide member (46) has a finger knob (62) on its outer face.
4. A latch according to Claim 3, characterised in that the finger knob (62) has a necked portion (63) situated to one side of the outer face (61) of the bolt (33).
5. A latch according to Claims 1 and 2, characterised in that the bolt (33) includes, between each of its ends (53, 54) and the terminal edges (55, 56) of the slide member (46), an indicating element (51, 52) for indicating the position of the bolt (33).
6. A latch according to Claim 1, characterised in that interpenetration in the two positions (75, 76) consist in at least one projection (77) of the casing (2) engaging alternatively in two notches (78, 79, 80, 81) which are formed in each end portion (82, 83) of the striker (74), and the pitch (84) of which is equal to the stroke (45) of the bolt (33).
7. A latch according to Claims 1 and 6, characterised in that interpenetration at the two positions (75, 76) consists in two projections (77. 85) of the casing (2) engaging in the said notches (78, 81) or (79, 80) of the striker (74).
8. A latch according to Claims 1 and 6, characterised in that interpenetration at the two positions (75, 76) consists in one (77) of two projections (77, 85) of the casing (2) engaging in one (79) of the notches of the striker (74), and the other projection (85) engaging in the other notch (81) of the striker (74).
9. A latch according to Claims 6 to 8, characterised in that the notches (78, 79, 80, 81) of the striker (74) have an enlarged entry portion (86,87) for guiding the projections (77, 85) of the casing (2).
10. A latch according to Claim 1, characterised in that the bolt (33) has on its inside face (64) an aperture (65) in the form of an isosceles triangle, cooperating with a bolt (23) disposed on the outer side (24) of the sliding door (4).
11. A latch according to Claim 10, characterised in that the aperture (65) has an apex angle (66) located on the median horizontal plane (67) of the bolt (33).
12. A latch according to Claim 1, characterised in that the casing (2) includes positioning dowels (12, 13) projecting from its inner face (11) and engaging in orifices (14, 15) formed in the sliding door (4), with fastening elements (16. 17) extending through said orifices.
